Faking at the Olympics: Cute Chinese Girl Lip-Synced; Hidden Talented Girl Sang

China has been obsessed with presenting a flawless Olympics to the world.

As part of their all-out pursuit for an idyllic Games, China has in the past reportedly shooed grieving petitioners away from their central government and have continuously silenced any signs of protest. The government also spent a whopping $16 billion in a clean-air campaign, relocating factories and planting millions of trees — amid concerns that all the athletes and visitors would have to wear face masks to breathe and embarrass their country.

Now, the country’s quest for perfection apparently includes the image of their children. Officials have just admitted that the tiny, pigtailed girl in the red dress who wowed the world as she appeared to sing the "Ode to the Motherhood" during the Olympics opening ceremony was actually lip-syncing to a recorded version sung by another girl who was deemed less physically attractive.

Nine-year-old Lin Miaoke was the girl on stage Friday night but the real voice belonged to seven-year-old Yang Peiyi, whose voice was perfectly in sync with China’s all-out mission for an idyllic Games. But Yang’s chubby face and crooked teeth was not the perfect image, according to Beijing Olympic officials.

"We decided to let Lin Miaoke sing on the stage, and to use Yang Peiyi’s voice, because Yang Peiyi has the best voice, while Lin Miaoke is the best actress," said Sun Weide, a spokesman for Beijing’s Olympic organizing committee, to the Wall Street Journal.

Apparently, this wasn’t China’s only fake-out. Games organizers also confirmed on Tuesday that parts of one fireworks display was digitally enhanced for TV and included prerecorded footage. The Olympic committee decided that to follow the real trail of fireworks was too dangerous for a helicopter camera. Instead, a team spent almost a year crafting the glamorous segment, paying attention to get even the smog lighting effects correct.

It is very difficult for a country to try and live up to an image of perfection which they desire but do not have. The tricks were not necessary.

Ashlee Simpson lip synched on Saturday Night Live, too. China’s entre into democracy apparently includes the trappings of capitalism. We have little right to criticize in that regard, I think.

I decided to add a more age appropriate example - Audrey Hepburn in “My Fair Lady.”

Well, C O, it seems as though the Chinese want to be perfect in every way. Somehow, I was not surprised when I read of this. And, I am sure that the little girls’ families were both made to feel very proud of their daughters contribution to the great motherland. But, what really has me perturbed are these reports of at least 3 gymnasts that are obviously underage. I took a close look at their pictures and they aren’t 14, much less 16; they just don’t have the body build. Am I incorrect in saying that is cheating, just as doping is? The Chinese do have a history of deception it seems. By the way, I had an answer almost written to your other posting and accidentally deleted it by exiting out of the browser. I simply threw up my hands and tried to remember what I said, couldn’t remember, and then I forgot where our stream was, so I decided to give up. I think it’s my bedtime…

Everything seems to be turning into beauty shows, etc. Even the women doubles sand volleyball—-look at the tiny bikinis they play in as opposed to long shorts and shirts of mens doubles sand volleyball!!!! I had hoped at least the Olympics would value women as more than show meat. Same as on Dancing With the Stars—the men dress with class and the women as show girls. Sad role models for young girls everywhere. Think of self esteem value suffered by the little girl who can sing but someone there said was not cute enough—-she is cute! Perhaps the little girl who pretended to sing is a relative of the person who said the other was not cute.

Sherry S and Diana T…I agree with both of you…Sherry I was just commenting on the mens beach volleyball attire compared to the womens…Why can’t us women watch 1/2 naked good looking men run around on the beach as the men get to watch 1/2 naked women do it? As far as the age of some of the Chinese there is no way they are 16…they dont look over the age of 6…but I guess the Chinese Govt can fordge any documents but its sad they are making these young men and women work their bodies to that extent so when they do reach 16 their knees and ankels will be so sore they wont be able to walk…
