Well that would be something to really celebrate. Money comes and goes but if you’ve got your health, who cares?

Thank-You for the heads up. I will watch this Sunday. I truly hope that the man who said he might have a better way to cure cancer really does. And the story about Iraq will be interesting also, since my son and his wife are getting ready to go for the thierd time.

Following many threads of research I have read about some similar treatments (like ultrasound for lung cancer)- and am optimistic that he is on to something - the very real, very sad issue is that a simple, direct treatment like this is anathema to our current ‘profit from illness’ medical establishment. Over and over we see treatments and drugs get bought and shelved because they do not have enough profit in them for our medical world. Some are then resurrected in countries where it is seen as a financial benefit to have a healthy society at reasonable cost, unfortunately here we are still in a place where the money/profit is in the treatment not the cures. I would love to see this work and be used. It would be interesting to see what the regulatory agencies will do with it if it does have good efficacy in trial.

What a great discovery! I can’t wait to hear more about it on Sunday. I pray that this truly is the treatment that everyone is hoping for. To have it work, to destroy the cancer without side effects would really be amazing.

Leslie Stahl for President! Seriously, where were they five years ago when I needed them????? Science and medicine always show me how much we can actually do when we want to do something. Too bad we aren’t as serious about education as we are about curing cancer.

This “invention,” whether it works now or not, is a glimpse into the future of medicine. We are living in a very exciting time! I had my latest mammogram last week and fantasized that in the future, women might be able to put their breasts on their home computer screens and have it read without having to go to a clinic. Much of what cancer patients have to endure today will seem archaic in future.

As a cancer survivor one of the biggest things I learned was that cancer is big business and hell to go through. During my treatments I would ask my friend who is a nurse, why we still had these horrible treatments after so much money for so many years has been spent on the “Big C”, and she would say it was because that is where all the money is invested, and they have a certain ‘mind set’ about it. It occurred to me that it would take the next generation that was coming up raised on computers etc and had a different way of looking at the world, to change this, and they are. But if this works, what a great accomplishment for our generation. I can’t wait to see. Something so simple. It is like that fungus that devours nuclear waste and bio-regenerates clean oxygen. Amazing.

What does the AMA say? A man and his machine will cure cancer? I really hate to be a cynic especially since I am a breast cancer survivor but really ladies, doesn’t this sound too good to be true? I will watch; I will listen, and I hope I will be amazed.

I too am a cancer survivor and grateful for the surgery and treatment I recieved. Wonderful that a man had an idea and it is being tried! Dreams come true and man can do the impossible with his mind. Don’t you wonder where ideas come from?

As the founder of CareTALK and a believer in integrated medicine, I very much look forward to this piece, Leslie — and thank you for making innovative and pioneering consumer healthcare a priority. As we vote this year we should be mindful that every American has promise and the cures we are seeking may be in the minds of those we least expect. We can’t afford to lose one American mind and talent. We need to invest in our education systems and Science, again.

Ken—Been in medicine 40 years so I’m very familiar with highly publicized miracle treatments which didn’t pan out. The power of wishful thinking in medicine is breathtaking and sometimes very dangerous. When I was a Merck shareholder, I warned the company its proposed HIV vaccine, which flopped in clinical trials, wouldn’t work because humans generally do not have natural resistance to the virus. Viral vaccines are basically “booster” shots to toughen the immune system’s ability to fight off the infection. Think I was ignored the public, government and the medical commntiy were so desperate for a quick and dirty vaccine solution basic immunological principles were simply ignored. With the respect to radio therapy I wonder who’s funding the study. I’d be more optimistic knowing it was a peer reviewed federally funded clinical study. Nowadays many clinical studies are little more than pr puffery paid for by device manufacturers and drug companies.
