Oprah: No Way Would I Have Accepted Blago's Senate Offer (Audio)

Oprah Winfrey says she would have fallen off the treadmill – had she been on it – at the news that Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich was thinking of sending her to the Senate.

During his media blitz this week, the scandal-scarred Blago – facing criminal charges and impeachment for allegedly trying to sell Barack Obama’s Senate seat – said he actually considered Oprah for the job.

Not one to let something like that slide, Winfrey called in to friend Gayle King’s Sirius XM radio show and said she thinks that idea is "amusing," but she was never actually asked.

"I think I could be a senator," she said. "I’m just not interested. I think I could be a senator, too." Although we would have loved to have another lady in the Senate, who can blame Oprah for wanting to stay put?! It’s a pretty nice — and lucrative — perch up there in Oprah-land!

I don’t believe Blago ever considered Oprah for Senate, I believe he pulled that out of thin air while on the talk shows, to spice up his story, so to speak. And would someone PLEASE tell that man to get a haircut!

She would’ve accepted a Senate position if Obambi offered to her, thats the joke. I love when you lefties have no problem throwing Blago in the toilet, when Obambi has known Blago for years. Obambi knew exactly what Blago was doing. I can’t wait for Blago to go to court about this. Hes already mentioned Emanuels name many times. Emanuel is the 2nd most powerful man in the country. That is Obambis boy.

I agree with Catherine K. about pulling the Oprah thing out of thin air ….and only when Diane Sawyer said her name. I have read every downstate paper on Blago for years and never once was Oprah mentioned…nor was she listed in the Federal prosecutor’s complaint. When Blago appeared in the media blitzes, he failed to mention that this is a POLITICAL senate impeachment trial and not a criminal trial. The Senate does not have to prove guilt using the without a doubt theory. This situation would be similar to having an employer who decided you were unfit for the job….he met with his uppers and they agree to fire you….this is what the Senate is doing. If Blago wants to appeal it, he can go to the Illinois Dept of Human Rights just like any Illinois employee can. And by the way, he was givin ample opportunity to file information regarding witnesses…he chose to ignore the deadlines. Just for informational purposes, I have been attending the Blogojevich Senate impeachment hearings every day at the State Capitol. It is amazing to see the facial features of the Senators when something comes out. The federal wiretap tapes which were allowed to be played were not as damning as Wednesday’s/yesterday’s testimony by the auditor general about how many times the governor and his staff used his office to go around the legislature, how they purposely violated Federal laws as well as state law to get what the Governor wanted. I thought that yesterday’s testimony put the icing on the cake. And as soon as that damning testimony was done the Senate president got a message from the governor that he wanted to appear to tomorrow to give a final closing statement (no tesimony and no questions allowed). What happened to his Boycott….just another example of his irratic behavior/changing his mind. Afterwards, I talked to some Senators which I personally know. The general feeling is that they doubt that he will have enough support to remain in office, however, they feel that some senators don’t want to have it on their conscience and are leaning towards a no vote. These same senators also want a closed session so their constituents won’t know they voted not to impeach him….many have expired terms coming up and don’t want to lose their new elections…..they should not be allowed to have a closed session…..the people of Illinois should be able to know how their senator voted. I’m looking forward to today’s session. It will surely be enlightening. HA HA HA If anyone wants to hear or see today’s session, you can use the streaming audio/video, at the following site: http://www.ilga.gov/senate/audvid.asp or I think you can also use the University of Illinois-Springfield radio station site for streaming(although I haven’t used this site, but they are carrying comprehensive radio coverage of the event): http://www.wuis.org/ Here’s an interesting fact checking article from the the Springfield, IL paper yesterday which proves he was not telling the truth about not being able to call witnesses: http://www.sj-r.com/blagojevich/x724374935/Fact-checking-the-governor-s-… And here’s the federal complaint under which his criminal indictment slated for April 1 will be based…..the Blago’s and his wife’s language in here is horrible. http://www.scribd.com/doc/8759869/Blagojevich-Complaint Sorry this is so long and contains so many links….just trying to keep you informed if you are interested. I hope Whoopie reads this so she knows he bam-boozled her.

I’m just glad they got this guy out of there. Now I’d like to see Illinois start voting for political office on something other than “good hair” v. “bad hair.”
