Oprah Rep Says: Winfrey Is Not Interested in Becoming U.S. Ambassador to London

Rumors are spreading that in a Barack Obama White House, media mogul Oprah Winfrey could become the U.S. Ambassador to London. However, wowOwow interviewed a spokesperson from Harpo who said that Oprah is not interested in becoming the U.S. Ambassador.
A spokesperson for Oprah’s production company said that although she can’t speak for who Obama is interested in appointing in his cabinet, they can confirm that Oprah is not eyeing the role of U.S. Ambassador to London.
"There is no truth to that story," a spokesperson for Harpo said to wowOwow.com.
The London Financial Times writes, "The argument is that Oprah is also a prominent supporter of Obama and that she might be looking for a ‘change of direction’ — having got bored with her megastar status."
Caroline Kennedy was another name floating around as Obama’s selection as ambassador. The press notes that this would be an interesting choice — given that the last Kennedy to serve as U.S. ambassador to Britain was Joseph "Joe" Kennedy — whose position (and reputation) ended abruptly when he questioned England’s stance on democracy.
Both Kennedy and Oprah are high-profile women who have made very public endorsements of Barack Obama. The whispers are now spreading to the States, with the Chicago Sun-Times regurgitating the rumors.
The current ambassor, Robert Holmes Tuttle, was appointed by Condoleezza Rice in 2005.
