Oprah and Larry King Vie for Jade Goody Interview

Oprah Winfrey and Larry King are in a bidding war to interview terminally ill British reality-star Jade Goody — before it’s too late.
According to Goody’s publicist, the 27-year-old’s television appearance may take place via satellite from either her home or hospital room.
Goody was diagnosed with cervical cancer last year, and the disease has since spread through her body. She was recently rushed to the hospital, where a source said she may only have a few more days to live. Goody has been a familiar face in Britain since contending on the reality show "Big Brother," and has invited cameras to follow her final days.
Though she’s been famous in Britain for years, her sphere of influence has been growing lately. Wondering why?
Newser founder Michael Wolff examines this very question in his latest "Off the Grid" column. He suspects a depression-laden era finds company in others’ misery. Isn’t that the optimism we need at the moment?

Is it my age, or the economic mess, or the very interesting political year we just had , I don’t know, I just don’t care about Oprah’s topics, Larry King is just phoning it in, I swear someone is feeding him the questions in his ear, "Dr" Phil’s aura has totally worn off, and you’re right, Rachel Ray is no cook …. but I beg to differ with you on the View , Hot Topics is my favorite half hour of the day, next to Jon Stewart, you never know what will come up and Joy Behar cracks me up, especially when she takes on Elizabeth Hassle-bimbo.
Actually, I have more fun at w0w, we have some pretty damn interesting women here ☺
Joy is a wise woman, in many ways - far more gray matter in fact. I agree with all of your observations, of course. I think the main problem in our nation is lack of mental health and those who strive for visibility are most often those who may do far better helping themselves, first. Most of us would totally support that for anyone.

Ghoulish? Not quite, but certainly not Ha Ha.
Our society is in a downward entropic spiral, and self-esteem is being shed constantly. Just today, in a meeting with about 19 women, the question arose, what on earth do others see in the women on TV lately - "Do people really need them as role models, fashion icons… ?" Every one of us agreed, and furthermore have decreased televiewing time by at leat 65% this past year. PBS reigns - but even with PBS there was a consenses that "that dance competiton needs to clean up its act … " (Many of us have been in competititve ball room dancing and no one was permitted to dress in the manner as is permitted here the past 5 years - ala Vegas.)
Thank goodness music, books, lectures, and intellectual gatherings are increasing, again.
