Palin Unplugged. Alaska Gov Talks About Campaign Mistakes, What It's Like to Not Be in Control

What do you think Sarah Palin’s biggest mistake was on the campaign trail?
The Alaska governor thinks she should have spoken to the media more, for one.
"The biggest mistake made was that I could have called more shots on
this: the opportunities that were not seized to speak to more Americans
via media. I was not allowed to do very many interviews, and the
interviews that I did were not necessarily those I would have chosen," Palin told Human Events, a conservative website.
"But I was so thankful to have the opportunity to run with John McCain
that I was not going to argue with the strategy decisions that some of
his people were making regarding the media contacts."
Since
Barack Obama beat McCain for the race for the White House, Palin,
Republican McCain’s running mate, has, it seems, been trying to make
up for that. She was on hordes of TV networks doing impromptu
interviews, from her governor’s office in Juneau, at home and
everywhere in between. Then she got quiet, saying there were simply too
many media requests; she even gave Oprah the slip.
Now, she’s
talking about the federal bailout of the auto industry and Wall Street
(she opposes them), what it was like to be on the campaign trail again
stumping for Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-GA, and lessons learned from her
first national political debut. The Alaska governor, who was used to
calling the shots at home, suddenly had to deal with other people making
decisions for her — and that was uncomfortable, to say the least.
"Looking back, there were so many things that were outside of my control … I have all the faith in the world in Sen. McCain and his family. But some of the folks around him I did not know, and so it was a kind of a risky thing for me to put my faith in the decisions they were making on my behalf."
Her biggest role model? Susan B. Anthony.
"I have great respect there for the history. She was a pro-life feminist and those things that she stood for, and she was so far ahead of her time. It amazes me."
