Ann Coulter's Birthday Wish for Bush (and a Michael-Moore-Free Definition of Patriotism)

By Ann Coulter
Being really proud of America whether your husband is running for president or not. You know how Michael Moore feels about America? It’s the exact opposite of that.

In response to "Sunday is President George W. Bush’s birthday. On this 4th of July, do you have any special birthday wishes for him?"

Thanks for not letting Muslim terrorists kill me this past seven-and-a-half years. I owe you one, big guy. Don’t think of it as getting older; think of it as your birthday cake’s carbon footprint getting bigger!

Click here to read birthday wishes for the president from Sheila Nevins, Marlo Thomas and more.

Editor’s Note: Ann Coulter is a political commentator, syndicated columnist and best-selling author. Her latest book is If Democrats Had Any Brains, They’d Be Republicans.

Bonnie: To put Ms Coulter in the same league as Ivens and Richards is like putting together luscious , juicy peaches with a spoiled prickley pear.

Bonnie- I have to agree with Phyllis here….I wouldn’t put Coulter in the same room with Ivens. The difference I think is that Molly Ivens liked to use facts to make her case while Ms. Coulter prefers twisting them to suit her fancy pony dance.

Absolutely true! Molly Ivins and Ann Richards were wonderful witty women who could make their points with brilliant wit and humour and didn’t need to stoop to the nasty level of A.C.

Bonnie, Ms. Coulter is not a Molly Ivens or an Ann Richards. This woman is toxic, non-compassionate and revels in spreading negativity and hate. Ivins was an accomplished journalist in her own right with a winning and courageous sense of humor; Ann Richards was a political talent and a leader. Both women were accomplished in their fields. And, as much as I watched both, I never thought I saw utter hate and anger spewing forth in their statement. Coulter has deep seeded anger; it has nothing to do with being irreverent or intelligent.

Bonnie, What are you trying to say? That if she were far left, and sent out far left messages in the same way, she would have been appreciated? The far left has Randi Rhodes, who many times makes great sense but also makes some outrageous statements like she did about Senator Clinton, which resulted in her losing her job at Air America. It swings both ways. If you don’t like her don’t listen or read. You can do the same thing here. There are far more democrats than republicans or conservatives on this site, so there is more agreement on politics than there is disagreement for you democrates. That is very comfortable for the dems (except of course, during the primary), and the repubs here listen to far more democrat views than they do repub views. They try to participate, but every time a republican article is run, the majority of women on this site act very offended. What is up with that? I want to know what people think and I want to know why. I like to understand intelligent women. I don’t always agree, but so what? This is a big site, and there is room for all.

Bonnie, In my second paragraph I was referring to the generic you. I got lost in my post.

Guys? It’s i-V-I-N-S not I-V-E-N-S. Thank you.

I’m the one that screwed up the spelling…sorry.

Bonnie, I beg to differ. Hateful women should not be welcome here (have you read the ten commandments post?). I wouldn’t welcome Randi Rhodes here, either. I don’t think saying on national TV that you wish John Edwards would be killed in a terrorist plot is witty or sassy. Or intelligent. I also don’t think calling someone a big F***ing wh**e is witty or sassy or intelligent. In this case, Bonnie, it’s not the message, it is, actually, the messenger.

Lorraine, I guess you addressed some of what I was talking about. I understand your logic. Ann Coulter’s statement was rather calm as opposed to others. I don’t keep track of her so I don’t know if she has cleaned her dialogue up. She always threw some of those nasty bombs just before a book was released. It is unfortunate for such a smart woman - she was a constitutional lawyer, can be so stupid about what she spews. It seems so immature.

Lorraine, I 100% agree that “hateful women should not be welcome here”. I was horrified when I saw this earlier in the morning…what is WOW thinking?? Tonight I saw that it had loads of comments….What?? Glad most share my revulsed opinion but please, please don’t ever invite this vitrolic ah back!!!!!!!

Lorraine, Josie, Agyness thank you for your common sense, and your total decency, class, taste and brains. All which Coultergeist completely lacks and wOw is sorely demonstrating a lack of by having this horrible individual here.

Bonnie, I see you are getting lots of responses from your comment. I always read your posts and respect what you have to say. i am an Independent; have been my whole life. The Repubs have so many intelligent, articulate and savy women (Susan Collins, Peggy Noonan, Elizabeth Dole, Kay Bailey Hutchinson etc.) To put Ann Coulter in the same paragraph with Molly Ivins and Ann Richards is just wrong-wrong. Those were two fabulous, hardworking, witty, real women that gave so much to our public life. No comparison. Had to add my two cents. But don’t go anywhere, because you feel outnumbered-we need your thoughts.

To everyone who disagreed with my comment - I purposefully used the Molly and Ann comparison inasmuch as both of those women have often been praised at this website and not for the nasty things they had to say about Republicans. I believe Molly Ivins even agreed with what Justice Thurgood Marshall said once in an interview that the President (George H.W. Bush) should be dead instead of serving as President. Ann Richards also made public ridicule of the Bush family though in Texas I understand that they respected each other. Do I support Ann Coulter. No, but I have laughed as some of her caustic humor just as most of you have probably laughed with those on the LEFT who make humorous comments about Democrats. I think Ann Coulter is way too far to the Right but for wOw to have her here for perhaps this one time has been interesting.
