Patti Blagojevich's Potty Mouth Involving Her Gov-Hubby Scandal (Transcript)

Patti Blagojevich and her husband, Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, may have been in bed together in the alleged massive political scandal that he was arrested for this morning. According to the 76-page indictment for her governor husband, the feds set wiretaps on Blagojevich’s home and office phones. On the tapes, Patricia was recorded using expletive words about a deal the Tribune newspaper company wanted on behalf of the Cubs baseball team. The Sun-Times reports:

Nov. 3: Tells deputy governor he was worried about being impeached in the Spring says Tribune will be "driving” the process. In later call, wife Patti Blagojevich can allegedly be heard in the background saying, "hold up that f- - -ing Cubs shit … F- - - them.” Gov say they should tell Tribune "we’re doing this stuff for you, we believe this is right for Illinois, this is a big deal financially.” Also says to tell Trib, "maybe we can’t do this now. Fire those f- - -ers.” In another conversation with a former adviser, gov says he plans to tell the owner of the Tribune that he will not help him fix up Wrigley Field because the Trib’s editorial board will argue he be impeached for doing so.

Nov. 4: Tells deputy governor to tell Tribune, "fire all those [expletive] people, get ‘em the [expletive] out of there and get us some editorial support.”

Nov. 11: Says "that’s fantastic” after adviser says the Tribune owner "got the message” and could target the editorial section in upcoming budget cuts.

Gov. Blagojevich has been accused of withholding state assistance from Sam Zell’s Tribune Co., which owns the Chicago Tribune, when they were trying to buy Wrigley Field. In exchange for the funds, Blagojevich allegedly asked for critical editors to be sacked. The most eye-popping accusation, however, is that the governor stands accused of shopping around for money in exchange for President-elect Obama’s Senate seat, which Blagojevich has the power to fill.

Thank you so much, Ms. obj. Your inside scoop on all this is most appreciated. It just gets curiouser and curiouser. Do you think he went off the deep end when Obama wouldn’t offer him anything but gratitude? Sounds like the President-elect may come out the hero on this one. Wouldn’t that be swell.

I’m thinking the governor has delusions of grandeur and no sense of the reality of his situation. Obama called for him to resign today, I wouldn’t be surprised if he (Obama) gives a press conference on this tomorrow.

Reminds me of a President I used to hear about. Has Bush weighed in on any of it? I hope we’ll get another press conference from Obama soon.

I just heard Rachel Maddow on the radio mention more or less that “It seems that all over the media in Chicago, unlike the national media, there is all kind of talk questioning the governor’s sanity, saying he’s crazy.” It is true, that IS the consensus here, isn’t it in the media elsewhere?

Well, NBC and The Newshour were all over the story, but nobody said anything about insanity. I think did hear some speculation along those lines on the TruTV Court Shows, but I didn’t hear any conclusions on the network.. Rachel Maddow usually knows what she’s talking about. This could turn out to be really wild.

Hello AJ…Yes, we’ve had enough “guilt by association” for this season, haven’t we? I bet the Obama bashers are up and at ‘em on dawn patrol this very minute…Could we characterize “them” as “The Six-Degreepers”…?

It would have been helpful if the newspapers had quoted the wording from these telephone calls…from both of the Blagoyevich’s including all threats. The real issue is why Republicans and Democrats, in office and the citizens, have put up with this “business as usual” atmosphere for so many years. Answer…someone standing against it basically killed their political career. “Me” instead of “We” thinking. Politics is rarely a time of “service” anymore. Term limits are called elections so the public needs to get a little smarter. Again… money & greed rules…rewarding bad business decisions just like Wall Street/ Corporations and the compensation levels. ** No one is that valuable in Washington, Wall Street or Corporate America**

Just for the sake of accuracy, the first paragraph of this article contains the following error: “According to the 76-page indictment for her governor husband….” In point of fact, there has not yet been an indictment. That will occur after the 76-page *criminal complaint* has been submitted to a federal grand jury. I know it’s splitting hairs with legal terminology, but I think we can agree it’s important that we get all the facts right in our reporting, yes? Fitzgerald was very careful in the press conference to make it clear that there has not yet been an indictment, so I believe it would not be a good idea to mis-report that fact. Other than that, great article! —Kris

Um, the “potty mouth” is not the problem here. Influencing free press, etc., all that ethical challenge stuff, real problem.

Debur….I saw where you indicated Blago didn’t attend the democratic convention. I think he finally did go…..originally he wanted a speakers position at the convention but Obama’s camp snubbed him….he threatened to not go, but the Springfield papers reported that he went and the Springfield tv channel ran an interview with him while he was in Denver. He definitely went to the governor’s conference and flew in the state plane while most other govs paid their own way. About 2 years ago there was a downstate rumor that Blago had gotten one of his downstate buddy’s wife pregnant…….this guy is a local prominent attorney and before the rumor, these two buddies were in the news when Blago was in town……since then, Blago hasn’t been reported as attending this guy’s functions in the Springfield area and the media has been hush hush. If this rumor was true I bet Patti B. had a huge potti mouth then. Of course I’m not saying this rumor was fact….just a rumor in downstate.
