Is the Beloved Paul Newman Terminally Ill?

By The Staff at wowOwow.com

The Internet is lighting up today with concern for the health of screen legend Paul Newman. The 83-year old actor, one of the most important Hollywood actors of his generation, was photographed on Friday in a wheelchair leaving a New York cancer hospital. United Press International, as well as the Los Angeles Times and U.K.’s Daily Mail, are reporting that he has only weeks to live.

Recent photographs show him looking gaunt, and in May ‘08 he dropped out of his stage directorial debut with the Westport Country Playhouse, citing health concerns.

In addition to a film career that spans more than 50 years, Newman is the philanthropic entrepreneur behind the Newman’s Own line of foods. Profits from the sales of these products go to charity; by 2006, more than $200 million dollars were donated by the company.

Let’s hope not! But if this is true, I pray that he and his family will be left alone from the clamoring fans and flashes from the paparazzi. He is one of the greats and has given us so much work to enjoy for years to come.

Paul Newman is a wonderful American Original. The Benchmark of What Men(all of us, for that matter) Ought To Strive For, both in the way he has taken care of himself, and also his zeal for Life, and his desire to give to others. In my lifetime, there has only been One Paul Newman…no one can match him.

My thoughts and prayers are with Paul and Joanne……….They’ve had a wonderful life together……….given us (the public) a lot of pleasure over the years with the great films they’ve made. Here’s to both of them during their difficult time ahead.

Everybody leaves the hospital in a wheelchair - hospital rules. I’ve left cancer hospitals in a wheelchair, as have many of my very non-dead friends. When Paul, Joanne, or Paul’s doctor confirms it, then I’ll listen. Until then, I’ll call him “thin” - not gaunt, and continue my crush on his very alive self.

You are so right Kitty - a wheelchair is how they make you leave a hospital - hopefully everything else is as normal for such a wonderful person. Best of luck for Paul Newman.

At 83, Paul Newman has had a great life. What appears to have been a happy marriage, excellent career, and the opportunity to indulge in his many interests.

How can one ever forget the eyes. I think I always had a crush on that gentleman. A gentleman with great concern for others and big giving heart. In an industry that feeds on egos, his seemed very much in check. An all around good guy with one terrific wife. Lets hope this is a false alarm. We eat less when we age. He may just be thin by choice. In any case he has all my good thoughts for many more years.

Let’s face it - we’re all terminal. Paul Newman is 83 and if he’s having health problems I hope they’re just part of the natural slowing-down process. The media is very quick to speculate on his demise rather than to celebrate the fact that during the past eight decades Newman has demonstrated what “giving-back” is all about. His illustrious career has never prevented him from being a caring human being or from having fun on the race track. I wish him many more years of living life to its fullest.

Love and admire Paul Newman so much, truly a great human being. Wish he and his family peace and comfort. And as Maureen said, unfortunately we’re all terminal. He is an outstanding example of a life lived really well.

Kitty’s post is just the ticket for me. And for the record …. Paul Newman is my “McDreamy/McSteamy”; and has been since I was a teenager!

I certainly hope not. I have enjoyed watching him over the years. He is so natural in every role, it’s hard to believe he’s acting. And he continued a prolific career into his eighties-impressive. My prayers for healing are with him and his family.
