Paula Goodspeed, Obsessed Dead Paula Fan, Being Scourned by 'Idol' Judges (Video)

Authorities have identified the woman who was found dead Tuesday night outside Paula Abdul’s home as a two-time "American Idol" loser who was ridiculed by the judges after a terrible audition.

Paula Goodspeed apparently had an odd obsession with Abdul; she drew a collection’s worth of life-sized portraits of the singer. On what appears to be Goodspeed’s MySpace page, there is a sensual picture of Paula Abdul licking her upper lip and holding a champagne glass. Above the photograph, the page owner writes, "My secret crush, shhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!"

In an apparent homage to the former Laker girl, Goodspeed’s 2001 tan Toyota Camry, where her body was found, had the license plate "ABL LV" in an L.A. Lakers holder. She hung a picture of Abdul from her rearview mirror. The 30-year-old unemployed woman has reportedly been stalking the star in her car for weeks and neighbors mistook Goodspeed as a member of the paparazzi. It is being speculated that Goodspeed died in an apparent suicide from a drug oversode but the L.A. County coroners are scheduled to perform an autopsy today.

Paula Abdul released this statement Wednesday: "I am deeply shocked and saddened by what transpired yesterday. My heart and prayers go out to her family."

On the same MySpace page’s blog, the author writes that she was embarrassed after her 2005 "Idol" audition. Goodson auditioned in 2004 as well. Wearing a pink outfit, white sarong and braces, Goodspeed sang a pitchy "Proud Mary". Watch Goodspeed’s "American Idol" audition and what the judges had to say after she performed "Proud Mary" below.

I am not a fan of American Idol for a lot of reasons. But early on I decided I didn’t like their treatment of these young people. It’s ridiculous. Shame on them for their abuse of these kids. Some of them, maybe many of them who are not emotionally equipped for this type of thing. I watched this clip and could see in the first few minutes that this girl was mentally ill.

I believe the producers select these fragile people on purpose for their “entertainment” value. An awful and shameful practice. But it must be successful, ‘cause they keep on doing it. Who then is responsible: the producers who do what they think their audience wants or the audience who wants it? Sort of correlates with the campaigning styles this past year. Maybe the election itself has shown that the era of the-uglier-the-better is over.

This is so sad. Paula looked like she knew she was a stalker.

What is really sad it that these reality shows and the like, have the ability and the intent to desensitize it’s audience. It begins with something slightly bizarre and increases it’s shock value, feeding the unsuspecting masses bit by bit untill we are a people that are completely numb to the atrocities that are brought upon others. We all have to take part in the responsibility for the feeding this machine, as aren’t we all ambulances chasers to some degree. We pause on the freeways whenever we see the mangled car in our silent curiosity to veiw what the human body is/is not able to withstand, instead of saying that silent prayer for the safety of those people/person’s involved and even beyond to their loved ones, who will soon learn of their fate. We all share the inability to wrap our minds around the thought of “How can that possibly be”? but we continue once again in continuing to feed this machine, by the weekly veiwing of this propaganda. Or, even those with the underlying feelings of gladness that others are suffering at the belittling hands of those who are acclaimed to a higher position, so as they do not have to feel alone when their own sorrows befall them. I feel we need to get back to the genuine caring and concern of our fellow man, instead of finding a freak show form of entertainment, at the expense of others.

I feel so bad for this woman and people like her who are mentally unstable. But the debate now swirling around Idol and their attention to people who are clearly unbalanced is moot. They wouldn’t promote the early auditions of mentally challenged people if we, the public weren’t eating it up. We collectively look at these emotional train wrecks, laugh, and snicker and pass judgment. American Idol lays it out for us as catnip and we eat it up. So which came first the chicken or the egg? Who is more to blame when things like this happen, American Idol or the American public? Look at William Hung….he became a celebrity overnight singing his version of She Bangs. I’m sure he is a perfectly fine young man but it was clear he was not “fully cooked” as the old expression goes. He made a decent amount of money and laughed all the way to the bank as we laughed AT him all the way. It’s a sick and twisted symbiotic relationship we have when it comes to judging others.
