Peggy Noonan: I Like Clean

Peggy Noonan
I don’t like perfume as much as I used to. I don’t know why. But I was thinking the other day how much I like the smell of soap, any soap, and of spray starch.

I have asked a lot of men what they enjoy most, fragrance wise, on a woman. Most seem to hate heavy perfume and most agree that just a good, clean soapy smell is a favorite. I like the clean smell of soap also. I do wonder what the current fruit craze is all about. It smells good, but why do we think we should smell like kiwi cucumber?

I think you’d like some of the clean fragrances out there, most of which have citrus (the squeak in the clean). Annick Goutal’s Eau D’Hadrien EDT, for example. White Linen, of course, was all about fresh laundry in a cool wind.

Hi Julia, There’s some evidence that the smell of grapefruit elicits attraction and perception of youth by male pheromones. I’ll test this out at breakfast and let you know.

Well, that would be just great since I have a grapefruit tree in my backyard. I must admit the blossoms have just about the most divine scent I have ever smelled and when I go to juicing the fresh off the tree grapefruit, my houses does smell fantastic!

My longtime favorite has been “Tiffany’s” classic fragrance. I like the clean style of the bottle, for one. But I as I buy new product when things run out I switch to organics. The environment and products are highly toxic and it just makes sense to eliminate as much as possible as it is easy to do. I have a couple database sites bookmarked that rate different products so I can make healthier choices: http://www.canceriq.org/causes.html

Eve, I agree about chocolate and coffee but to them I would add freshly baked bread and maybe an orange. Mmmmmmm. Outdoors: lavender, ginger lily, wisteria, gardenia, citrus blossoms… — http://maryannestahl.blogspot.com/

I love to pick leaves off my lime tree and crush them. It awakens my senses.
