Sources Say Pelosi Peeved Over Reid's Stimulus 'Deal' (Video)

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid may have steamrolled House Speaker Nancy Pelosi over the economic stimulus bill.
Reid and other senators announced at a press conference yesterday that he and his colleagues had reached a $798 billion stimulus deal. But Pelosi, D-CA, was nowhere in sight, nor were any House Democrats, even though Reid did make a point to give kudos to her for all her hard work. But Politico reports that Reid held the conference before Pelosi had agreed on all the details of school construction financing — one of her pet projects in the huge package. Pelosi and other Democrats fumed that the Senate took out more than $100 billion in spending from the bill, according to sources.
"It’s ruffled feathers, big time," said one House Democrat. "The speaker went through the roof." Another said Reid "tried to roll her and she knew it." But Pelosi’s people says she’s the one who played Reid and that she wasn’t "blindsided."
After Reid’s afternoon press conference about the deal, the House-Senate conference committee required to formalize the arrangement was postponed. That was apparently Pelosi’s call. But she still came out of meeting with rank-and-file Democrats Wednesday night all smiles, saying they are on board and proud of their work. Both chambers could vote on the bill as early as Thursday.
"I think people are pretty happy," she said, though she acknowledged she didn’t get her way on everything.
