Powell Blasts Palin for Polarizing, Endangering Republican Party (Video)

By The Staff at wowOwow.com
YouTube

Sarah Palin helped push the Republican Party farther to the right this election – a polarization which could lead to the downfall of the party, insists Colin Powell.

Oh, and he also says Republicans should stop listening to conservative talk-show host Rush Limbaugh and we need to rethink the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.

“Gov. Palin, to some extent, pushed the party more to the right, and I think she had something of a polarizing effect when she talked about how small-town values are good,” Powell told CNN in an interview that will air Sunday. “Well, most of us don’t live in small towns. And I was raised in the South Bronx, and there’s nothing wrong with my value system from the South Bronx.”

He adds: “It was that attempt by the party to use polarization for political advantage that I think backfired.”

If the GOP doesn’t wake up and realize the far-right wing can’t carry the rest of the party, Powell – who created shockwaves throughout the political establishment when he endorsed Barack Obama for president, albeit, late in the game – thinks they could become obsolete.

“There’s nothing wrong with being conservative … but if the party wants to have a future in this country, it has to face some realities,” like it has to woo blacks and Hispanics, who are quickly becoming the majority in this country.

“I think the Republican Party needs to stop shouting at the world and the country … the party has to take a hard look at itself.”

Here’s video from the aforementioned interview.

Just a note ……………I wonder if the Staff of Wowowow have noticed that a few new Republican men have joined in the conversations to do nothing but bash Democrats………interesting. I also wonder if they know that this site was designed for women over 40. We’ve had a few men on site for months but even if they disagreed with any of the women they were not disrespectful. I’ve also noted that most of the Democrats have been leaving or at least not posting like we used to do on a daily basis. I don’t post most of the time because it’s the same -o same-o negative posting……….Gosh everyone don’t you think we could find a way to be more positive in our exchange of Ideas………..We can differ and still remain cordial to one another. After 6 months of intense dialogue with lots of intelligent women on both sides of the aisle, I for one am tired of the political bashing. Our Country is in trouble……….we need to come together and work to heal ourselves…………..the election is over. Not matter what we think or say it isn’t going to change who our New President is…… Write your Congressional leaders or Senators and share with them about your likes and dislikes. Merry Christmas to all…………….

Dona - I’m going to guess that while the wowOwow staff would prefer to cater to the people that the site is designed for they can not (yet) afford to chase away members unless they rise above the level of mere nuisance into the realm of being a genuine problem. There are commercial sponsors for this site and wowOwow, like any other commercial site, needs the membership numbers, hits, and posts to keep climbing. There is also likely a lot less activity on this site since election day came and passed - it seemed that the original agenda for many members was to jam their candidate down the throats of other readers and destroying support for the campaigns of opponents. Now that election day is over those folks may have fallen by the wayside. You should post if you like the site at all because thoughtful posts can only attract other intelligent people to read on and perhaps to post some ideas of their own. That can only serve to make you more satisfied. So my best advice is that if you’d like to see things change here and then you should stick around for a while at least, post more often and try to help improve wOw through positivity. I have to say that the negativity and some of the subjects floated here has made me want to pack my bags and never return several times. Hoping for something better in ‘09! Merry Christmas Dona.

I’ve sure noticed it. There are a number of people who seem to come in here merely to spread the Limbaugh spin. I would not be surprised if Limbaugh sent them here because they sound like they are just spewing his talking points.

Bah. The Republican party was headed for implosion before Palin dropped into the limelight. Palin ‘s largest role has been as a lightning rod for all the criticism that really deserves to be laid at the feet of longtime Republican insiders like Powell, Cheney, Renfield …er Rumsfeld, Karl Rove, Alberto Gonzales … and more, so many more - need I go on? The selection of Palin, rather than Palin herself, acted as a laser beam focusing upon the snake pit that the Republican Party has become.

These Republican talking points are getting old- same old stuff. What gripes me is people like that Jim Henley act as if they are enlightening us with these “new” revelations.
