Limbaugh Researching Past Powell Endorsements for Any 'Inexperienced, Very Liberal, White Candidates'

By The Staff at wowOwow.com
Rush Limbauch/RushLimbaugh.com
After former Secretary of State Colin Powell announced Sunday on NBC’s "Meet the Press" that he is supporting Barack Obama because "we need a president who is a generational change," ultra-conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh reportedly e-mailed Politico saying that he thinks Powell’s support is about race.

He wrote: "Secretary Powell says his endorsement is not about race … I am now researching his past endorsements to see if I can find all the inexperienced, very liberal, white candidates he has endorsed. I’ll let you know what I come up with."

Powell, who announced at the beginning of the campaign that he wasn’t announcing his support for either candidate until the end of all three political debates, said yesterday that race was not a factor in his decision.

Some other conservative pundits have echoed Limbaugh’s racial accusations.

Conservative Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist (writing for ABC News, Newsweek, Washington Post) George Will said:"It seems to me if we had the tools to measure we’d find that Barack Obama gets two votes because he’s black for every one he loses because he’s black because so much of this country is so eager … to feel good about itself by doing this, but more than that to put paid to the whole Al Sharpton/Jessee Jackson game of political rhetoric."

The Huffington Post points out other such charges.

Respected Maine-based attorney Dan Billings reportedly said: "If Obama was a white man, Powell would not have made the endorsement."

And political commentator Pat Buchanan said on MSNBC: "Alright, we gotta ask a question … Look, would Colin Powell be endorsing Obama if he were a white liberal Democrat?"

what’s my beef? not w/Powell’s endorsement, he’s not as perfect as he appears—-(you many recall the 1st Gulf War—-the Brits had Saddam’s exclusive ‘Republican Guard’ totally encircled, and were ready to send them all to their 40 virgins, wherever)—-and it was his call—-he told the Brits to ‘stand-down’, saying such easy slaughter was ‘un-chivalrous’! i mean Damn—-but i’ve wandered—-back to Rush—- he was caught with ‘a-ton-o-oxycotin’, illegally had through his maid—-in Florida, if he were black, or some white ‘druggie’, well that’s at least 25 years-to-life! yes! yet he walks—-the only comment i have heard is, ‘Mr. Limbaugh yet has serious issues with the state of Florida.’ Then? Nada—-no doubt, had he been black, and not a rich-Reep, his butt would long-ago been locked down—-for decades. IF Obama wins Fla.? sure hope his passport has expired! this sort of ‘justice for some’ is so typical—-i really do not think the Fed, or any state has ‘right’ to pack prisons w/victimless ‘criminals’—-the way to winning the ‘war-on-drugs’ (thank you Nancy) is Treatment. even for Rush—-

Geraldine Ferrarro had it right all along… although I doubt if she’d restate it openly today, staunch Democrat that she is.

Marjorie…..Just a thought —-maybe this endorsement was saved until now to get a bigger boost in the polls. I find it hard to understand how all of the WOW posters who were so against the war now think it’s OK, even tho Colin Powell was so into the WMD’s. HuMMMMM! And, maybe Geraldine had it right all along. And, I, like you, doubt that she would restate it openly today.

He’s a form of despicable media whore—that’s it, and he will cater like a whore to anyone who pays him big bucks for preaching to the deadbrains in this country.

You knew it was coming. To the conservatives that pollute the airwaves, Colin Powell’s endorsement of Barack Obama could only be because he is black:~STEPHANOPOULOS Clearly Rush and some others think that the endorsement is more based on skin color than anything else, a projection that I find more illustrative of the simple-minded Republican groupthink support than anything else. It shows just how insulated and isolated the GOP is from the real world, where people look at more than just how much someone looks like you and considers larger issues. Really, you want to go diving into that “how ungrateful that black man is for all the white men have done for him” abyss? It’s frightening to me how these conservatives don’t to even try to hide their white hoods any more. Rush, I know that conservatives value ignorance, but you have to know that becoming a four-star General is not a political appointment. Powell earned that rank, and to suggest otherwise now because he doesn’t agree with your water-carrying is just more of the Republicans’ sick tactic of smearing the messenger.~Nicole Belle This just goes to show the mentality of today’s politics. Colin Powell is great when he agrees with you, but when he makes very substantive arguments for endorsing Barack Obama, he’s just another identity voter. Let me search Rush Limbaugh’s past statements to see where he accused a white politician of endorsing John McCain because of his race.~Tommy Christopher Notre Dame Professor Darren Davis, who specializes in the intersection of race and politics, writes in with his take on the Powell endorsement and the conservative reaction. “There is nothing racially obvious about Colin Powell’s endorsement of Barack Obama. I have read Colin Powell’s comments and he did not at anytime allude to race being a factor in his endorsement. I think what we are seeing is a sense of racial stereotyping of two ostensibly racially transcendent political figures. There has always been a stereotype that all black people will stick together.” In an interview with Laura Ingraham today, McCain said that he disagreed with Limbaugh, adding that he admires Powell and doesn’t “question people’s motives or why they do things.” But the argument (for all its condescending simplicity) seems to be missing the larger point. For starters, Powell has, in the past, endorsed a “white man” who was described as inexperienced — George W. Bush in 2000.

Well, I guess Limbaugh has to find something to do what with the salary he gets paid. Another college dropout with a big mouth, a bigger cigar and a huge girth… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rush_Limbaugh

I think Colin Powell would have supported McCain if he had picked anyone other than Palin as VP

Chips Ahoey, Do you not remember him saying that he would Vote for Hillary Clinton over John McCain! He went on and on about it…Wait here I’ll post some of it… Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh is critical of John McCain, prompting suggestions that he may have to tone his rhetoric down if the elder Arizona senator wins the nomination and faces off against the Democrats. But in a twist that has conservatives scratching their heads, Limbaugh said in an interview over the weekend, he would rather see the Democrats win the White House. “There is no way in hell I could pull the lever for John McCain.”

Chips Ahoey, boy I need a nap! I was think Ruh when you were saying Powell! Sorry about that. And i think you might be right , I think a whole lot of people just can not get behind the Palin thing and the behavor that her VP canidency has brought with it. McCain has changed so much since then.

Limbaugh is such an idiot. Maybe it has as much to do with the fact that Powell spent most of his life in the military. Bush has decimated the military with his choice of wars and poor strategy. [Had he followed the Powell doctrine in Afghanistan or Iraq, we would all be better off.] See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdN8XpL36Pk I could not imagine Powell endorsing McCain, even if he says he is his “good friend.” I do not see race as a factor in Powell’s endorsement at all. In fact, it is possible he delayed his endorsement so long because he was worried that it would be seen that way; a year ago he admitted that he was advising Obama and any other candidate who would call, but Obama called. There are quite a few military folk opposed to McCain. See http://www.vietnamveteransagainstjohnmccain.com/ And read the article in Rolling Stone about McCain’s actual military career. http://www.rollingstone.com/news/coverstory/make_believe_maverick_the_re… Even so, it appears that Powell is more in support of Obama than opposed to McCain. His remarks on Meet the Press were specific rebukes to the current Republican party with its narrowed focus but also were endorsements of Obama, he was especially impressed with his intelligence. One more reason Limbaugh is an idiot. Active duty military folk are not allowed to endorse anyone for office. So there is little research to do. Powell was active duty military from 1958 to 1993. He endorsed McCain in 2000 in the primaries and Bush in the general. I remember when it was a bit of a mystery just which party Powell belong to, his independence and ability to work with anyone was so well known.
