Limbaugh Researching Past Powell Endorsements for Any 'Inexperienced, Very Liberal, White Candidates'

After former Secretary of State Colin Powell announced Sunday on NBC’s "Meet the Press" that he is supporting Barack Obama because "we need a president who is a generational change," ultra-conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh reportedly e-mailed Politico saying that he thinks Powell’s support is about race.

He wrote: "Secretary Powell says his endorsement is not about race … I am now researching his past endorsements to see if I can find all the inexperienced, very liberal, white candidates he has endorsed. I’ll let you know what I come up with."

Powell, who announced at the beginning of the campaign that he wasn’t announcing his support for either candidate until the end of all three political debates, said yesterday that race was not a factor in his decision.

Some other conservative pundits have echoed Limbaugh’s racial accusations.

Conservative Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist (writing for ABC News, Newsweek, Washington Post) George Will said:"It seems to me if we had the tools to measure we’d find that Barack Obama gets two votes because he’s black for every one he loses because he’s black because so much of this country is so eager … to feel good about itself by doing this, but more than that to put paid to the whole Al Sharpton/Jessee Jackson game of political rhetoric."

The Huffington Post points out other such charges.

Respected Maine-based attorney Dan Billings reportedly said: "If Obama was a white man, Powell would not have made the endorsement."

And political commentator Pat Buchanan said on MSNBC: "Alright, we gotta ask a question … Look, would Colin Powell be endorsing Obama if he were a white liberal Democrat?"

I am fine, wading through all the propositions and local races to decide how to vote. Taking breaks here to see what people have to say. Rush Limbaugh rarely has anything to say that interests me.

Hoop! Dayitis! The Repbulicans have now made this contest about race…at least the most hateful and incendiary of the bunch, With their cards on the table, it’s now very clear that these socially-stratifying hyper-capitalists are not playing with a full deck. I think Rush Limbaugh has just assured all the rest of us that the vast majority of Americans will be casting their votes AGAINST the Republican Party and, predominently, for Barack Obama. Cool.

Limbaugh only reaches a certain group… which is why change is so important and threatening to their viewpoint. Sean Hannity at Fox News however appears to be ready to take over when Limbaugh passes. It appears that the viewpoints will continue into yet another generation.

simple truth—-Rush is an actor and loves $$$—-he saw a bunch of idiots as a paying audience and grabbed the job—-if Fla. gets around to prosecuting his infamous ‘oxy’ drug bust? yeah, another will take his place—-as the ‘Mongoloids’ will yet be there—-waiting for the next Bull-Shit master—-

That’s RL’s opinion, something I stopped paying attention to a while ago. He’s made some pretty awful, appalling comments that are primarily aimed at rankling people and drawing attention to himself. He’s a shock jock, that’s what he does, that’s how he puts together his opinions. Who knows what he really thinks.

i just told ya what he really thinks—-‘this place is so full of ‘dumb-futzs, why not ‘take advantage’ make my $$$?’ oh, i almost forgot—-he also wonders why he didn’t order a ‘bidet’—-wiping that ‘bubble-butt’ is probably his true angst—-

Never watch Limbaugh on TV, never listen to him on the radio, see no reason to respond to his remarks on here, feel he is not worthy of any attention.

Last night on MSNBC Clarence Page pointed out that if Powell’s endorsement of Obama had been a matter of race, he (Powell) would have endorsed him months ago. Because “Powell is black now and he was black then…”

I find it hard to understand how all of the WOW posters who were so against the war now think it’s OK, even tho Colin Powell was so into the WMD’s. HuMMMMM! ” By Lady Gator on 10/20/2008 4:44 pm Well let me make it a little easier for you. Colin Powell WAS NEVER “so into” the WMD’s. He went along with a plan that he was suspicious of because his military background has ingrained into his being that when the “Commander in Chief” says it’s going to happen then it’s going to happen. He resigned when he had proof that what he suspected was true, but still because Bush was still his “Commander in Chief”, he didn’t speak out against him and his irresponsible decision. Until now that is. He’s spoken loud and clear with this endorsement. Rush Limbaugh is a symbol of the kind of people who make up the repub base. They care more about WINNING AT ANY COST, even if it means inciting race riots, than they care about what’s really right for this country. They act more Republican than American.

you are correct - the Atlantic Monthly did a great story a couple of years ago about the pomousity of the Iraq War - that Powell almost $^#! himself when on 9/12/01 the Bush gang met and said “okay, let’s invade Iraq” - he said he sat there stunned - as my WWII vet Dad used to say, He got screwed without getting kissed!

Anyone who says that Powell’s endorsement on MTP was motivated by race clearly didn’t see or think about his extremely articulate and well thought-out justifications for leaving the party and supporting Obama. He outlined the myriad of reasons that he feels Obama/Biden are the better leaders for our county today. His comments also stressed his belief that Obama/Biden are trying to unite the country-crossing ecomonic, ethnic, religious, racial and gender lines while he sees the GOP working hard to further divide the people of our nation.
