Queen Latifah to Play Gwen Ifill on 'SNL'

By The Staff at wowOwow.com

It seems inevitable that "Saturday Night Live" will perform a skit tonight that puts Thursday’s vice presidential debate in the spotlight.

Obviously, Tina Fey would play Sarah Palin, and People magazine confirmed that rapper/actress Queen Latifah would play the debate’s moderator, Gwen Ifill.

The first Tina Fey impression on "SNL" was a ratings knockout: It was the most-watched "SNL" since Dec. 2002, according to Reuter’s Hollywood Reporters.  The real VP debate was just as entertaining: Thursday’s vice presidential debate was viewed by 69.9 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research. It had 17.5 million more viewers than the Obama-McCain presidential debate on Sept 26.

"SNL" doesn’t finalize their lineups until moments before airtime. "SNL" airs on NBC Saturday’s at 11:30 pm/10:30c.

OMG, Queen Latifah should get an Emmy for that portrayal. Tina was right on as usual. When she took out the flute, I LOL. Best Tina moment was approving of the marriage of 2 unprepared teenagers. I’m not sure the people of Scranton, Pa. will like this skit.

Rachel Maddow had a version of the drinking game on her website in advance of the debate. As soon as this election cycle is over, I’m gonna need a drink, how much will depend on the outcome!

Hats off to the Queen, her facial expressions were so fun. She did a great job. Tina was spot on. I agree the whole thing was funny except the part about Scranton which seemed a little mean.

We stayed up very late waiting for thTina and the Queen, but gave up after seeing one long string of commercials, including the same Toyota one 3 times, and very little SNL content. What has happened to this show? In future we’ll just wait for the blogs and skip the ads. I guess PBS has spoiled us!

Gwen Ifill was on Meet the Press this morning and was laughing about the skit too. Well done! Everyone was spot on with their caricatures. I’m sure the writers are going to be disappointed when the election is over.

http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/video/clips/vp-debate-open-palin-… for those that missed it. I usually tape SNL so I can skip the commercials if I am time crunched. But I do love how Tina Fey has got such a lock on why Palin is so unusual, to say the least. Every year Tina Fey gets funnier and funnier.

The Queen did Gwen Ifill justice and went way beyond that with some hilarious reactions to Tina’s Palinspeak. Bully for SNL!
