In Quest to Look Young, People Turning to More Outlandish Procedures

Growing old can be frightening. That’s a fact.
While some cope with new shades of lipstick, perhaps a nip and a tuck or a change in diet, more and more people have been turning to a Las Vegas-based company called Cenegenics Medical Institute. With offices in elderly hot spots like Arizona and Boca Raton, Cenegenics and their experts in “age management” promise patients a younger appearance through a unique blend of exercise, diet and, yes, science.
In addition to taking adrenal hormones and testosterone, some patients are taking small levels of human growth hormone, which Cenegenics claims helps counter “hormone deficiency.” Others equate it simply with taking steroids, and the similarities have some worried. Though he can understand the desire to improve one’s image, Chicago-based Dr. Jonathan Lippitz laments that Cenegenics and such treatments are a “slippery slope.” If a patient sees positive results from the growth hormone, but finds himself bound by legal restrictions, they could end up looking for underground means by which to obtain their “life-enhancing” drugs.
Now, while we know this treatment’s meant to revive one’s youthfulness and keep them “up to speed” with younger rivals, this photo of Cenegenics originator Dr. Jeffry Life put us off a bit – he’s 69 years old, and has the body of a 30-year-old. We have no problem with 30-year-old bodies, of course, but this juxtaposition’s a bit too unsettling for our taste. Fighting aging’s all well and good, but do so gracefully – and try to keep it realistic!
