Report: Clinton Aides Made up Original Secretary of State Offer

Hillary Clinton’s advisers played a key role in fanning speculation that the senator will be our next secretary of state.

While some said that President-elect Barack Obama offered Clinton the role during their meeting in Chicago two weeks ago, Elizabeth Drew’s new report in New York Review of Books suggests they were jumping the gun. Obama had met with Clinton – and another former rival, John McCain – to set things straight in the Senate. That is, he wanted to woo them a bit and make sure they wouldn’t complicate his presidency too much.

Though the subject of secretary of state did come up when Obama and Clinton sat down, there was no offer, as some of the senator’s aides claimed:

Obama’s meetings with Hillary Clinton and John McCain about playing important roles in his presidency indicated his imagination and his shrewdness, although sources close to Obama say he did not offer her the job of secretary of state when they met.

Mrs. Clinton’s and her closest advisers’ turning a suggestion by the president-elect that she might, among other things, head the State Department into an "offer" and reports that she was agonizing over whether to accept it, did not please officials in Chicago, some of whom hoped that issues over disclosure of Bill Clinton’s post-presidential record might block the appointment. But the former president’s camp blocked that by promising to cooperate with requests for information and to accept limits on his activities, including clearance of speaking engagements abroad. Statements by the Hillary camp on November 21 saying that "she’s ready" for the position but then backtracking, saying that some matters were "under discussion," typified the whole mess, the only snag thus far in an otherwise unusually smooth transition involving impressive choices — an object lesson to Obama (which he had reason to know already) that getting involved with the Clintons is rarely uncomplicated.

That may be true, but now things seem to be "on track" for Clinton to take the spot.

Hi Tanja, Hey I took a look at your web page, Quite nice and very impressive the works that you have done! Tanja my friend, don’t let the “tolerant deficient” on here get to you. They don’t know how to carry on a conversation with those of a different opinion and when confronted with having to answer, even the simplest of questions or you point out their errors in reporting on something, they cut and run. there are some who after I’ve told them to mossey on down the road and don’t bother responding to my post, still continue to do so. I can’t engage myself with their stupidity, LOL. It’s Pffffft, delete. So I guess they don’t get the rejection factor either. I’ll converse with someone even though we may not agree but, when you start with the can’t answer the question you were asked routine and keep spinning in circles attempting to change the subject to avoid answering direct questions, or the famous putting out there of half truths and in most cases one side of something they hear and not the true story after all. And when a correction is brought to their attention, they don’t want to check the truth or better yet those idiots that post you and say you said something that you never did, when they are the ones who sit at their computers and talk to dead people. Well….at that point, its be gone with you, you’re a flamming idiot whack job with zero credibility that is never going to have anything to say that would be even remotely interesting to me. I just gotta laugh, they crack me up. Welcome to WoW, LOL. Tanja, I wish for you a most beautiful and Happy Thanksgiving as well! :)

Thanks Elaine. I’ve gotten quite a bit of email from members of WOWOWOW who have been very supportive. It’s odd when someone can’t handle a different point of view then says “please don’t post or respond to me” and less than 24 hours that same person is responding directly to you about a post that you just made on the same thread. It’s like wait a minute here. Drinking kool-aid I suppose(?!) Logic always wins. I always look at the other side of the coin. I like balance. You keep in flight when both wings are working with plenty of fuel sort of speak. Take care!

You’re more than welcome and just like Marjorie says, you stick around. I support you more than fully, especially when you stand against abortion, so do I. and you are so right about those same people telling you “Don’t post to me and then they are right back there posting to that person, LOL And the very same ones that I’ve told “Not to bother posting to me, if they don’t like my posts, ESPECIALLY when I’ve never posted to them in the first place but had just posted a comment to a particular storyline, Ha! They still do and Pfffft, They get deleted. My opinion is, that when a question is directed specificly to someone because they want to deny or make excuses for something they said and fail to answer said question, then begin the spinning around like a whirrling dervish, well, at that point they have lost any credibility and respect I may have considerded giving them. And if that happens then no matter what they try to post to me afterwards, I no longer respond to that individual as I don’t believe they are capable nor interested in having an open dialog, where even though they may disagree, they would in turn atleast respect your right to do likewise. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! :)

Marjorie quips about us monkeys slinging crap, “Wise to keep a low profile.” When this concerns crap, most certainly! Mules, I have worked with and plowed behind mules. They are not so bad. When a mule drops a load, this is just partially dry balls of chewed up alfalfa and hay sprinkled with sweet oats. No big deal, just bounces off your feet or squishes under foot like a wet sponge. No problem. Horses, the same. Cows, this is way different. Cows make a wet, juicy, sticky mess. Cows will drop a load on your feet like watery concrete. Pasture patties, when stepped upon, ooze up between your toes or stick to the bottoms of your boots. Chickens, the worst. Their droppings stink like crazy and will stain your bare feet hen-shit-mucklety-brown for days. No getting rid of the smell nor stain. With mules, easy enough, plowing along you simply stomp their poop into the dirt much like you stomp dirt clods to break up those clods. With cows, you know to keep your feet straddling your milk bucket and well away from the business end of a cow, and you know to keep a shovel handy for cleaning up later. With chickens, you do not stand a chance. They leave behind small landmines which you do not see or notice unless you feel a wet feeling between your toes. This crap we people sling around, yes, beneficial to keep a low profile, pays to know to duck. Does seem our crap flies around in circles. I do not have a cow lick of common sense. I am always standing up and shooting off my big mouth, and always catching a juicy wad right smack in the middle of my ugly mug. This crap slinging habit of ours would be much easier to take if we were all mules, instead of simply being mule headed. However, we people are mooing cows and clucking chickens. This is messy. Okpulot Taha: …we people are mooing cows and clucking chickens. That we are. Have a good holiday. If you’re cooking, may everything come to the table hot and at the same time. If you’re invited to someone else’s feast (as I am), may you stay away from the topic of politics (as I will… if I don’t partake of too much calvados).

I stated on this site that the leaks had to be comiing from Clinton. What a total miscreant she is to parlay a discussion about the possibility of Sec of State into an offer, then publicize it, then say she is “torn” about it, then say she is “ready” for it. I hope to God Obama finds a reason not to officially offer her anything but the door. I can’t stand this woman. She is completely without ethics or sensitivity. God help us she represents our country abroad.

There was a letter to the editor in our local paper this week, suggesting that Obama wants HRC for Secretary of State so that he can fire her! He will have no control over her while she’s in the Senate, but as Secretary of State, he will be her immediate boss. He just has to wait for some sort of misstep and he can be rid of her. In the meantime, someone else will fill her seat in the Senate. Genius, I thought;-)

Marjorie is kind, “Have a good holiday.” Thank you for your well wishes, Marjorie. Hard for many to understand, Marjorie, this is a work day for my husband and me. Seven-thirty, he is already over at a rental working, I will be joining him in a half-hour. We are making final touches on refurbishing a rental; tenants are moving in this Saturday. We will take an hour or so off early afternoon to join extended family for dinner, noting “dinner” is our version of an Anglo “lunch”. Our girl is over there helping to cook and will remain to help clean up while the boys snore on a couch or on a floor while a television blares a stupid football game. Our girl is our Thanksgiving emissary. After a light meal and swapping lies, we will be right back at work till later tonight. Work always takes precedence over pleasure within our family, including Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Usually, we have time to take a day off to celebrate those days like sane families do. However, we are not sane, we are workoholics. This is habitual. Born to poverty, raised on a rural farm, each day is workday. Has to be or you will not survive nor escape poverty. This is a habit of ours even today despite our being financially secure. Working today is not at all unusual. Millions of hard working Americans are at their jobs as I type; fire fighters, police officers, soldiers, waitresses, clerks, nurses and many others. This good work ethic, this willingness to work while others feast, this is a notion for which we should give our thanks. I will bet you a tasty turkey leg there is not a single politician working today. My wish for all readers is your Thanksgiving day be filled with warm family love, and your tummies not be so filled.
