John McCain Feels the Wrath of David Letterman and Paris Hilton, Again (Video)

By The Staff at wowOwow.com

David Letterman probably won’t be voting for John McCain.

On Wednesday night, Letterman comically ripped McCain and his campaign to shreds. Last night, Letterman made more verbal attacks at McCain and his running mate Sarah Palin — from his opening monologue to his infamous "Top 10" list.

Letterman has been taking aim at McCain for the last two days on his talk show — ever since the Republican presidential candidate canceled his appearance on "The Late Show With David Letterman." McCain called Letterman shortly before he was scheduled to be a guest on his show Wednesday to say that he was running back to Washington to fix the economic crisis, but instead he was actually being interviewed by Katie Couric.

Evidently, the king of late-night comedy didn’t find this funny.

"You’re here on a good night," he told the audience on Thursday. "So far none of our guests have canceled."

While McCain’s camp said they were sorry for offending Letterman on NBC’s "Today" show on Thursday, it seems, from the looks of last night, that Letterman isn’t accepting an apology.

"We deeply regret offending Mr. Letterman, but our candidate’s priority at this moment is to focus on this crisis," McCain spokeswoman Nicolle Wallace said, reported the Associated Press.

On Thursday’s show, Letterman was in full McCain-attack mode. He compared McCain taking Sarah Palin to meet world leaders to a parent who brings their daughter to work on take-your-daughter-to-work day. Letterman’s "Top 10" list was titled "Surprising Facts About Sarah Palin" presented by residents of Wasilla, AK, where she was once mayor. No. 3: Once spent a week in the hospital after attempting to put lipstick on a pit bull — by Dental Hygenist, Kathy McCone. Click here for the complete "Top 10" list.

And ironically, one of Letterman’s guests last night, was also not a big John McCain supporter: hotel heiress Paris Hilton. Hilton was once used in a McCain campaign ad to mock Obama’s celebrity status. She snapped back with her own campaign video that called the 72-year-old "wrinkly" and "old." Both briefly discussed their feelings toward the presidential hopeful that can be watched on the YouTube clip below.

Incredibly briefly. Could have spared us 10 minutes of Paris Hilton and still shown their comments!

David Letterman has been beaten so badly by Jay Leno for the past few years that having another politico on his show would have helped his ratings. There is a lot of history regarding his ‘rants’ ——are maybe we can call it ‘bad ratings’ — I don’t know whether people remember his ‘rant’ when Oprah didn’t come on his show. Or maybe when Barbra Streisand stood him up. Guess he feels “ignored”. Whatever it is — he looks like a silly old man pitching a childish temper tantrum. Boo-Hoo for David!

he looks like a silly old man pitching a childish temper tantrum” Where have I heard that before? Yet Leno, not Letterman, is getting replaced next year - by Conan O’Brian. Boo-Hoo for Jay!

Steve R ———Whoever you are. Don’t know what rock you are living under or maybe you’ve been in your basement too long. Jay Leno has been quite open about the fact that he wanted to leave the Tonight Show. So, they finally found a replacement for him. Boo-Hoo for Letterman — passed over again. If you remember — when Johnny Carson left the Tonight Show — David Letterman wanted the job — they passed him over for Leno. So Letterman was out — Leno was in. Maybe you’re not old enough to remember all of this. Boo-Hoo for Letterman —

Well, Lady Gator, let’s try this again. Ms. Oprah came to David’s show the night Color Purple opened on Broadway, and he walked her across the street after, holding her hand, to make sure she got to her opening safely. It was wonderful and charming on both their parts. Are your other facts as “true” as that one?

Well Ms Mugsy —good morning! Let’s try this again — David Letterman wanted Oprah to come on his show several times. She was otherwise scheduled. He made a big point on one of his shows that “Oprah doesn’t love me”. He pouted about it for several shows. So, yes, she did finally come on his show and as you mentioned above — he was thrilled and quite charming. And, as far as your remark about my other facts as “true” as that one —I truly lost some respect for you with that snarky question. You have always been above that type of remark. As to the rest of my facts — yes they are true. One of the reasons I don’t watch Letterman anymore is because he always seemed to be a cry baby when he doesn’t get his way. And, as I said to Steve R. — it really started years ago when he was passed over for the tonight show when Johnny Carson left. Jay Leno won out. Since then there has been a ratings fight between the two. As to your ‘charming’ remark — I accept your apology in advance.

Well, I’m not interested in apologizing for sticking up for Letterman. He’s truly hilarious. And I love that when he is disrespected, he throws a fit. We should be more like him, not put up with the BS. McCain lied to him. And the whole country knew it because McCain was down the street on Ms. Katy’s program. So good on him. Leno is in no wise as funny as Letterman in my book, and the Tonight Show is famously sexist. The only woman who has ever ever ever been on hired by The Late Show is Vicki Randle, who plays percussion and sings with the band. So he rags on when he is disrespected. Yep. Part of the gag. As to “ratings,” well, you know, “ratings” go to the lowest common denominator, so why should I, as an intelligent woman, give a flying rat’s ass about ratings? Anyway, I can be snarky as the next one, Lady Gator, you lost some points with me by attacking Letterman. He was not in the wrong with the McCain stuff. He was right on, and people agreed with him.

Well, I posted this earlier — apparently it was overlooked — or maybe David Letterman is now working for WOW and is deleting remarks against him So I’ll say it again — David Letterman’s ratings have dipped over the years — we can thank Jay Leno for that. This is not the first time he’s gone off into a rant because someone didn’t come on his show. Does anyone remember when he got into a rant because Oprah didn’t come on his show? Or does anyone remember his rant when Barbra Streisand stood him up? He thought it would help his ratings when he had another “Politico” on his show. Poor David — Boo-Hoo!

I thought Letterman was right. The main sin of McCain was in lying to Letterman. He said he had to fly back to D.C. right away to deal with the crisis, and instead stayed and got interviewed by Couric and then stayed the night and did not leave till the next day. If he had told him the truth, that he needed to do an interview with Couric about the crisis, I don’t think Letterman would have been as mad. Still, I think the funniest line of the night belonged to Hilton: “Revenge is Sweet.”

Elizabeth, I agree with you. IF Sen McCain had told the truth…..where have I heard that before? a person in government not telling the truth? oh, yea, right, it is our Pres.George W. Bush. Maybe the title of McSame is deserved If McCain now thinks it is more convenient to lie. Issues are complicated and cannot be taken down to small soundbites, but telling someone that can’t make their show becasue they are going on another show? This is not complicated and just plain lie.

Why couldn’t the old coot just tell the truth? Is he so used to lying that he doesn’t know the difference any more? More than disrespectful on a personal and professional level, it was showing disrespect to Letterman’s fans, who by the way are not few in number. And how many people are watching Katie Couric? Wily old codger either made a mistake or doesn’t want the younger folks to know what he’s up to.

Why couldn’t the old coot just tell the truth?” Force of habit.

Look, McCain thinks he has a priority. He doesn’t care who disagrees with his sense of priority. And he’s surrounded by people who are convinced that people will swallow whatever they’re fed. You keep “sayin’ it’s so” and you can convince most of the people most of the time. I don’t think he or his “handlers” either one understand how transparent John McCain is becoming. And more and more people are realizing that this candidate is deceiptful.

I couldn’t believe the way he couldn’t even look Sen. Obama in the eye, nor the camera either, for that matter. We all know when someone is lying, from the sandbox on….
