Rosie O'Donnell: Things Ain't Pretty Behind the Scenes of 'The View'

Rosie O’Donnell may be debuting her new variety show on NBC soon, but she’s still a little bitter over her time at “The View.”
O’Donnell told reporters Wednesday that Barbara Walters "wanted everyone to believe and think and act as if [the women on ‘The View’] get along and are really good friends and happy and hang out together, and, you know, that’s just not the reality.
“I’m not saying they loathe each other, but the fact of the matter is, there was not a lot of camaraderie off camera.”
She said politics just isn’t her thing, despite the fact she often jumped at the chance to go at conservative co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck many a time:
For me what happened on the show was a personal argument with a friend that was publicly displayed … I didn’t want to be paid to fight. When I started and took that job it was with the idea of speaking for the millions of mothers whose voices weren’t heard on television.
So don’t expect much politics talk on her show. Been there, done that.
"I didn’t grow up thinking, ‘I hope I can talk about politics,’” O’Donnell said. “If you watch my stand-up comedy, I talk about my life, my family. It only became about [politics] with the job on ‘The View.’”
O’Donnell – who is gay – was also asked by some reporters why she hasn’t been more involved in protesting against California’s Proposition 8, which bans gay marriage in the state.
"When I got married, it was an act of civil disobedience as much as it was a love story. There is not any person in the country who doesn’t know I’m for gay marriage," she said. "I’m not vocal enough? I got married before anyone else did. I’ve been living it and living it for a very long time."
