Rosie O'Donnell: Things Ain't Pretty Behind the Scenes of 'The View'

Rosie O’Donnell may be debuting her new variety show on NBC soon, but she’s still a little bitter over her time at “The View.”

O’Donnell told reporters Wednesday that Barbara Walters "wanted everyone to believe and think and act as if [the women on ‘The View’] get along and are really good friends and happy and hang out together, and, you know, that’s just not the reality.

“I’m not saying they loathe each other, but the fact of the matter is, there was not a lot of camaraderie off camera.”

She said politics just isn’t her thing, despite the fact she often jumped at the chance to go at conservative co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck many a time:

For me what happened on the show was a personal argument with a friend that was publicly displayed … I didn’t want to be paid to fight. When I started and took that job it was with the idea of speaking for the millions of mothers whose voices weren’t heard on television.

So don’t expect much politics talk on her show. Been there, done that.

"I didn’t grow up thinking, ‘I hope I can talk about politics,’” O’Donnell said. “If you watch my stand-up comedy, I talk about my life, my family. It only became about [politics] with the job on ‘The View.’”

O’Donnell – who is gay – was also asked by some reporters why she hasn’t been more involved in protesting against California’s Proposition 8, which bans gay marriage in the state.

"When I got married, it was an act of civil disobedience as much as it was a love story. There is not any person in the country who doesn’t know I’m for gay marriage," she said. "I’m not vocal enough? I got married before anyone else did. I’ve been living it and living it for a very long time."

I love the view. I just can’t say enough about those women. I must admit if I had to sit next to Elisabeth I’d be throwing some punches her way. Elisabeth is just so stuck, she can’t see straight. After watching everyday I don’t believe that these people hang out together. They must get along OK otherwise there would be punches thrown on the show. If Hasselbeck would remove that stick that’s up her butt, it would probably be less tense and more enjoyable. Rosie, I loved you on the view also. I think it was wrong how Elisabeth didn’t back you up about the troops. That was just wrong. So, good luck Rosie with your new show. I’ll be tuning in to check out the variety acts coming our way.

I’ve always been a fan of Rosie, loved the show she had before “the view”, Barbara Walters is doing her damndest to set women back about 30 years. There’s not a woman or man alive that believes that many women working together can be “best friends”, and for her to try and shove that down our throats is ridiculous. I’ll concede that B. Walters was a great woman in her time…but she hasn’t grown…she remains stuck in the past and living on her “laurels”.

I love The View as well, I find it entertaining and thought provoking. But I will say this, Rosie is dead on in terms of the behind the scenes friction that may be taking place. I too remember all the statements Barbara Walters made on air about how “we may disagree at the table but I assure you we are truly friends off set” as it related to Star Jones and then Rosie. It wasn’t until both were gone that we realized things weren’t as warm as she was trying to paint. The same appears to be true now as it relates to Elisabeth and the ladies. It is abundantly clear Joy can not stand Elisabeth. Joy Behar is one of the most down to Earth, “call ‘em as I see ‘em” kind of people I have ever seen, and she barely hides the contempt she has for Elisabeth. My prediction is once she is finally gone from the show, Joy will let lose with her true feelings about her.

I love the View and their hot topic discussion. I must say that I have to get used to Sherry and Elizabeth and their “views”- especially about religion and politics.

Is this the ex-host of The View Barbara Walters was referring to this morning that was saying bad things about them? O’Donnell’s comments seem pretty benign to me.

Its no real surprise…Barbara Walters has many times stated her affection for Monica Lewinsky which the “real” powers behind the scene nixed and her support of Elisabeth Hasselbeck who the powers are clearly enamored with. Both are equally poor choices. I guess an intelligent, talented women is a real “threat” on the show, too bad for the viewing public.

I’m just glad Rosie survived The View and The Donald and is bringing us a show-full of the stuff she really loves. A lot of us became more political after 9/11 than we ever were before. And I’ve always said, my grandchildren’s children may be the first to know what really happened that day. And they’ll find it in a big gray book at the back of the library.

Rosie saying politics is not her thing? That she doesn’t like to fight about politics? I guess Rosie forgot how she dumped pretty heavily on Tom Selleck when she had her previous talk show. He was speaking about freedom to have guns, in conjunction with a western TV movie he just completed, and she got very politically opinionated, questioning his support for the NRA and he suddenly found himself on the defense as a guest on her show. Rosie — loud mouth, abrasive, and her way or no way. I won’t be watching her new show.

I like Rosie & the way she passionately defended her beliefs against that blind, Republican puppet Elisabeth. Rosie was always right, because conservatives, under Bush, WERE wrong on every single thing they did. Conservatives are all about promoting the interests of the rich & to Hades with the rest of us. That’s not the American way. They trick these so-called religious one issue voters into voting for them because they don’t realize they’re voting their prejudices & against their own best interests when they vote Republican. If you aren’t in the upper 1% in wealth, they when you vote Republican, you’re voting against your own best interests, because every law they pass & every war they start is all about making more money—for the rich only. You’re an idiot to vote Republican if you’re not very rich. I only began watching The View because of Rosie. I watch half of it now because after the first half hour, they just have guests on that push their book, movie etc—which bores me. I watch for the political discussion—but I get aggravated & scream at the TV. Especially at Elisabeth.

I bet Barbara stops the other 2 from really going after Elisaberth. Elisasbeth has been so wrong for so long—& she tried to get people to vote Republican, against the best interests of this country, with her lies & her bull—-she needs to be told off, but good. The other day Elisabeth had the nerve to complain about what “those crooked businesses” have done. Her hero—Pres Bush—is the one that caused this entire financial meltdown! Even the G20 said the US caused this. Why does she think this mortgage crisis did not happen under ALL the other presidents? The same laws are on the books now that were on the books for the other presidents. Laws which say a mortgage company CANNOT, by LAW, give a loan to a person that cannot afford to pay it back! Investors get kinda upset when they invest money to loan & the mortgage company gives that money to a person that they KNOW cannot pay—or does Elisabeth think mortgage companies are just so stupid they don’t know when a guy can afford a loan? No. Bush let it be known he would not enforce the laws & they all went crazy making these bad loans, collecting the fee, bundling them, getting rating companies to lie & say they were rated “AAA”, & then SOLD them, quickly, to foreign banks & other investment firms. It was a PLAN to steal wealth from the People.

Char: The stock market has gone down over 800 points in the last two days, because people are afraid of Obama. If Obamas wonderful economic plan is so good, you would think people would be investing until the market closed. The mortgage crisis occured because Fannie, Freddie, and also Acorn made sure people that couldn’t afford homes, received loans anyway. Bush is busy making sure terroists don’t kill you or me. People like Barney Frank who ran the finance dept said Fannie and Freddie were sound companies. Barney Frank had a gay lover working at Fannie while this mess was going on. Look all this up yourself. Here are some typical Obama supporters. http://howobamagotelected.com/

Georgia: That is the dumbest post I’ve ever read. If you don’t have an intelligent response, don’t respond. For now read other posts, and hope someday you’ll be able to fit in.
