Rush Limbaugh Bungles 'Constitution' Quote

Rush Limbaugh needs to re-read the Constitution. Addressing the Conservative Political Action Conference this weekend, Limbaugh, a right-wing radio host who says he wants President Obama’s economic efforts to fail, accused the commander in chief of "bastardizing" the Constitution: "Aside from the bastardization of the Constitution that the Obama plans are, that TARP is, it’s not constitutional." The Huffington Post’s always-astute Sam Stein points out, however, that Limbaugh then went on to misquote the very document he was espousing:
We love and revere our founding documents, the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. [Applause] We believe that the preamble to the Constitution contains an inarguable truth that we are all endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights, among them life [applause] liberty, freedom [applause] and the pursuit of happiness. [Applause] Those of you watching at home may wonder why this is being applauded. We conservatives think all three are under assault.
Limbaugh may have thought he was quoting the Constitution, but he was actually — and erroneously — referring to the Declaration of Independence, which insists Americans have the right to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

Elaine…thanks for lifting my spirits today…I can always count on you….. :-)
caj p, you know we don’t agree on these things. When I said Obama is in deep trouble right now….I mean he is in over his head.
Limbaugh is not a leader of the republican party. He is doing the job he gets paid to do.
A newer and better republican party will emerge in 2012. Look at it this way….it has only one way to go and that is straight up….
Halo dims now and then from where I sit.
This guy is a DRUG ADDICT that the media refuses to acknowledge because they need ratings. He’s no example for your family or mine. He pleaded guilty for buying illegal drugs form significant doctors and off the black market.
Do you really want this guy for a hero and representing the GOP?
It’s all pretty sad. If anyone wants this guy as an example for their children or any family member of themselves they are in need of a padded room.
Lavern, get real. If you can. He is a recovering addict. He got hooked on painkillers for an illness he had. Think Betty Ford. Think of many of your Hollywood role models. Think Cindy McCain……think about your next door neighbor…..and thank God it isn’t one of your children or grandchildren. It can happen to anybody.
Thank God Obama is not addicted to marjiuana or cocaine.
It happens in the real world.
Rush is but one republican…vocal as he is. The republican party will be much wiser and stronger by 2012 with a moderate conservative. Obama will not be re-elected in 2012. His plan will not create jobs for middle America. His plan will prolong this recession. His plan was to secretly feed the special interest groups which does not produce jobs. And, more importantly, the stock market reminds him every day that Americans don’t trust him.
Usually, what goes down will come up—unless destructive policies interfere with the sources of potential recovery.
Barack Obama - equals - destructive policies.
Obama won’t be around in 10 years much less 4.
The stock market is a true indicator of how Americans feel about the people in the White House. They don’t trust Obama’s policies. If they did, the stock market would be way up. It keeps going down. The head of GE in good faith purchased his own stock yesterday @ $8.00 a share (approx). It went down to $7.00 this morning.
People do not feel "the hope." And, Obama knows it.
The democrats ignored a huge opportunity to stop the subprime fiasco in 2006….they missed it by ignoring all the signs. Now, I say, those are people you can believe in and trust, aren’t they? Now you know why the stock market is reflecting their pessimism.
Well, then, I guess we have two defacto leaders of the Republican Party. One’s a bucolic blow-hard and the other’s a spineless little suck-up. There’s a real future there.
I can only hope the Republicans actually sitting in the Congress will comport themselves with dignity, intelligence, and in the best interest of their constituencies, despite the embarassing examples so recently set by their party’s leadership. They have some important work to do in the coming weeks.
