Samantha Power, Who Called Clinton a 'Monster,' Headed to White House?

Hillary Clinton’s new colleague is an old foe.

Anonymous sources tell the Associated Press that President Barack Obama will soon pick Pulitzer prize-winning professor Samantha Power as the senior director for multilateral affairs at the National Security Council, a position that would put her in close proximity to Clinton. So why is this a big deal? Because Power stepped down from Obama’s campaign last year after calling Clinton a monster. Said Power to The Scotsman, "In Ohio, they are obsessed and Hillary is going to town on it, because she knows Ohio’s the only place they can win. She is a monster, too — that is off the record — she is stooping to anything." Power later apologized for the remark and resigned.

The women have reportedly "buried the hatchet" and were even spotted chatting at a State Department event last week. No one knows what they were saying, but we’re sure it was all diplomatic!

I agree FP. It’s time that we all realize that girls can fight in the heat of the battle and still be civil afterwards. Hillary more than likely took her comments as a compliment. While I was one of the Ohio voters totally turned off by Hillary’s willingness to do just about anything to win - she has to be admired as a great warrior.

Yes, Wowowow, give it up, please! These baits are demeaning. We are in an Era of Responsibility. Let’s move on, eh!

Nope. I’m not pissed at Wow. I’m pissed at Obama here. This move is very indicative of his showboating when it is prudent for his personal gain (Power’s resignation during the election) but then reneging on that pretend ethical move when he doesn’t need the votes. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://blog.indecision2008.com/wo… Interesting story this morning on NPR about how similar Obama is to Reagan. Anyone remember me saying that during the primary?

Pi Has Favreau even lived? He is all of 27? Has he been in the military? What has he done to come up with those words? Is he just a parrot or an ad man? Since Pres Obama is so articulate, why does he need this guy? He gets repetitive and mundane at times. Maybe he is stretched too far.

You’ve probably been hearing the recent reports on radio that I have, Frannie Em, with quotes from Reagan and Bush’s speeches, and then Obama’s almost identical speech phraseology. My “guess” is that Favreau studies the heck out of past presidential speeches and then writes. Either that, or it’s Obama who studies and picks out the quotes and passes them onto him. Who knows? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaoYD7iZG9w

News Flash….this happens all the time. Barack is now the President and I am sure he is dealing and working alongside MANY who have called him far worse than simply a monster. I can only imagine the derogatory names he was called behind his back by those who are now smiling in his face. Women can get beyond this type of thing just as men can. The only caveat is I think we can all agree in these situations, we can forgive….but we don’t forget. ;-)

Exactly. “Barack is now the President…” What he wouldn’t stand for during the campaign when he needed women’s votes apparently doesn’t matter a wit, now that he is President. Hypocrite?

The media and the people in the public make much more of these things than the politicians. They know it’s just part of the ‘game’.

I’m sure that is over and done with and time to move on and do what is best for the country.

Make sure your words are sweet for one day you may have to eat them. It’s an object lesson for everyone. I’m sure Power really regretted what she had to say because she lacked the foresight to ever consider that her path might cross with Hillary’s some day.

Wise words indeed, my dear, and more practical advice for those on this site than anything I have seen in the “advice” column. Politics or not, discussing issues with a civil tongue in one’s mouth not only increases the likelihood for gaining consensus, but also makes one look less juvenile and ignorant, doesn’t it, dears?
