Sarah Palin Could Be Close to Closing $7M Book Deal

Sarah Palin just might get the last laugh this election season.

There are reports that the Alaska governor is close to inking a book deal worth about $7 million.

But apparently that’s not exactly a lot of dough for books like these.

"Bill Clinton made more than $10 million when he signed his deal in 2001 and that was the most for a former president," a source told MSNBC. "Sarah brings something different to the table — there is so much curiosity surrounding her and her life. If they move fast and get this thing on shelves, then a $7 million advance could be worth it."

Palin’s personal account of her tumultuous introduction to national politics is widely regarded as the book most likely to repay a multi-million-dollar advance.

"She’s poised to make a ton of money,” New York public relations adviser Howard Rubenstein told the British Times.

"Every publisher and a lot of literary agents have been going after her,” added Jeff Klein of Folio Literary management.

Putting Palin in the category of Hollywood starlet of an odd sort, paparazzi photos of her have also surfaced online. They show her lounging poolside in T-shirt and shorts doing not much of anything.

"Even photos of her just sitting there, but looking like a normal person, could go for solid five-figure sums," one magazine editor told MSNBC.

Another Palin pal also may have a book deal in the works: Joe the Plumber.

"Everyone came at me to write a book. They had dollar signs in their eyes. ‘101 Things Joe the Plumber Knows’ or some stupid s—— like that. Excuse me, I am sorry," Joe Wurzelbacher told FOX News. "You know I will get behind something solid, but I won’t get behind fluff. I won’t cash in, and when people do read the book they will figure out that I didn’t cash in. At least I hope they figure that out."

The book, called Joe the Plumber — Fighting for the American Dream, is to be released by a group called PearlGate Publishing and other small publishing houses. It’s scheduled to be released December 1, 2008.

Well it looks to me like most of you hate her just because she is pro-life. Please name for me one famous conservative pro-life woman that you admire and look up to.

That’s your rebuttal? Those women who have voiced complaints or disagreements about Sarah Palin are simply doing so because of a difference of opinion regarding abortion? Lynn, you’re not posting on this subject for a serious, honest and intelligent discourse on the subject of Sarah Palin. I don’t know what your objectives are, but it is clear it is not to seriously discuss the reasons behind the manner in which Palin is perceived. There are women and men on this site who have voiced opinions that aren’t grounded in fact or the slightest example of true insight. I’ve made the mistake in the past and I think I have with you in this regard, in responding to a post with the assumption the poster was speaking from a place of seeking a serious and honest exchange on a subject. So, I apologize for my part in responding to your initial post, I should have looked beyond it as someone simply posting a “shot” and nothing more.

Lynn, Speaking as a “liberal” minded woman, I have to tell you….I lead a very diverse life that is comprised of people of every race, religion, sexual preference and ethnicity. I would guess half of all the people I know are conservatives, and not one of them espouses the divisive “real America vs. un-America” rhetoric that Palin made her national name on. The conservatives I know consider me to be an American and understand that we may share different political ideology, but it doesn’t mean they must villanize those that don’t agree with them, as Sarah Palin thrives at. The negative comments that are in abundance on this site about Sarah Palin are in my opinion completely justified. SHE is the one that showed herself in a less than respectable manner. For myself I will agree I do have a level of hatred toward her, but it is based on what she has shown me. I’m not the type of person that willy-nilly attacks people, I only do so when I see something that should be attacked. Sarah Palin insults my intelligence and more than anything did a disservice to our gender by coming across as a negative stereotype and woman that is lacking even the slightest intellect.

Sarah, Milk it baby for every dime you can. I’ll even spot you the price for a copy “There are a lot on uneducated, morally bankrupt, bias, inane, divisive, backward thinking, egotistical, “LEFT” wing conservative, hypocrites out there that need the type of inspiration”

Of course there’s a story there, whether you like her or not. I find most people’s individual journeys to be fascinating on some level or another, and hers is quite an interesting sociological study — how a young woman from Alaska, with a checkered academic background, who is married to a blue-collar man, mother to 5 children with their own complex stories, can hop onto the national stage after serving as a volunteer in a public school district, a small town public servant, and as governor of a sparsely populated state. It just goes to show what can happen if you raise your hand when few others, if any, do. It is an American phenomenon and I can assure you, her story is not nearly over. The future of the Republican party, I hope, lies with the likes of Bobby Jindal, but don’t count Sarah out. When it comes to Joe the Plumber, however, I doubt, at this time, that there is a commercial market beyond an essay or magazine piece for his story.

You know what Lucinda, you are absolutely right. For some reason I always allow Sarah Palin to get under my skin. I know I shouldn’t, I know it runs counter to my belief in supporting women who aspire for more in life. But the manner in which she handled the run for the White House was so divisive, so ugly and dark……it’s hard for me to look at her, her life and accomplishments with even the smallest degree of respect or understanding. But you are absolutely right, we all have a story and her story is one that many will want to hear. The reality is there are a lot on people that post on this site who don’t like Barack Obama, and no matter how much positive evidence is offered up to substantiate him as a good guy, they will never see it. The same goes for Sarah Palin and I guess I’m guilty of despising her so much I can’t allow myself to even for a second consider she may have her positive attributes.

Belinda, She is polarizing, but so is Hillary. I’m not so certain that BO is as polarizing as either one of these two women. I read his truly fascinating autobiography a long time ago. One doesn’t necessarily read biographies because the subject is replete with attributes (consider all the celebrity bios on the market), but because their personal journeys are interesting or they may offer a commentary on society, politics, or the culture of a region or era. From a commercial point of view however, she represents a huge share of the market that will be made up students of society and politics, as well as an enormous number of supporters. The crowds truly assembled at her rallys and many of them will be reading her biography with gusto.

And just who is this publisher? And just what is their relationship with the RNC? I hope Palin insists on writing it herself. Some poor dumb schmuck of an editor (or two…or three…) will be pulling their hair out before it’s all over. Or even more likely, she’ll take the money and bail out on her end of the deal. And then they’ll take her to court, and then….???? But what’s all these 7’s? They keep popping up in nearly every dollar figure people are playing with these days.
