Sarah Palin to Make 'Saturday Night Live' Appearance UPDATE: Live Reader Forum

In an announcement sure to make this weekend’s Saturday Night Live a ratings winner, Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin will make a guest appearance this coming Saturday night.

The confirmation was made by Presidential candidate John McCain during his interview with David Letterman on his return appearance on the late-night comedy show.

Palin’s appearance has been eagerly anticipated by fans on both sides of the aisle in the wake of the riotous, dead-on portrayals of the Alaskan Governor by 30 Rock star and SNL alumni, Tina Fey.

Past Tina Fey "Palin" performances on Saturday Night Live can be found here and here.

I absolutely agree, Andrea. Also, I hope she does end up on Fox, instead of continuing in politics… makes it easier to ignore her ;-]

Andrea- I agree with you that it has become frightening to even think of her close to the White House. At first, I disagreed with her a bout womans issues, but it has progressed so far beyond that. I read this morning that her staff keeps the news from her because it “might depress her.” I don’t know how the republicans & John McCain could consider doing this to America. They talk about Barack being far left, this woman is so far right fringe, that is is terrifying!! Don’t even get me started about dragging those kids everywhere & anywhere she thinks it will help her!! I just hope everyone votes the issues this year, and doesn’t let fear raise it’s ugly head like it did with George Bush tactics

Mrs. Palin, is a mother like you & I. She has success & attention due to her willingness to forward our cause. It’s funny how some of us would choose woman appeal over issue appeal. Her values speak goodness & fai & her vision for our country is online. Lets be strong to implemnet our childrens role in the coming years for their government to be as gran as can be… Let Mrs. Pailn be a woman. Coco

Coco: Lets be strong to implemnet our childrens role in the coming years for their government to be as gran as can be… Noble sentiment that I agree with. I guess you know you will take a beating on this site for saying what you did. You will be called stupid first, then the rest will follow. But, if it is any comfort to you, about 45% of Americans believe as you do, myself included. Maybe more, who knows, but the polls indicate anywhere from a 3 to 5 point spread favoring Obama. We could do far worse than having Gov. Palin as V.P. McCain/Palin 2008

And who would you suggest could possibly be worse? You keep right on flaming, Marjorie, suggesting that your numbers are big and credible, and that the opposition is mean and stupid. Meanwhile we will just keep working to restore decent honorable government for all of us. Even you.

countrywoman: …suggesting that your numbers are big and credible, I don’t know if they are credible or not, but today Rasmussen had 50-45, Obama favored, Zogby had 48-44, Obama favored. McCain is pulling about 45% in most polls. The split is about 5 or 6 percent. I haven’t misled the poster. about: …that the opposition is mean and stupid. What does this site continuously write about Gov. Palin if not mean and stupid things. Coco was simply trying to say something in Gov. Palin’s defense. It does get wearisome how you tear the governor apart — it almost makes people want to jump to her defense. From your perspective, anyone who doesn’t agree with you is flaming.

Perspective? Flaming is all about insults.

“Obama supporters can be the ugliest bunch of people you will find. Once they drink the Kool-Aid, they morph into something totally unreasonable. It’s like a sci-fi movie. Talk about mind control……….. I throw rocks every now and again just to watch them bounce off the boneheads.” By Marjorie C. on 09/05/2008 4:07 pm

countrywoman: Obama supporters can be the ugliest bunch of people you will find. And that still holds true today, 6 weeks later. Please note that I didn’t say are, I said can be. Reread some of the strings on this site that are aimed at Governor Palin. When someone isn’t wishing her dead, they’re wishing her every ill-fortune that could beset a person. It’s cruel, it’s mean and it’s sexist… and furthermore it is not working. Those who do not want to vote for Obama have long ago accepted the idea of Governor Palin as V.P.

Countrywoman, you bring up a good point. Opposition is what a good democracy is all about. Opposition and then consensus and compromise, which is something that the radcons(as Robert Reich so rightly calls them) can’t handle. http://censurebachmann.com/ Congressman Bachmann apparently said this on a newsshow yesterday, and it reminded me that McCarthyism is alive and well in our country. And, the sad part is that it is so divisive. Just like this Acorn situation that has been blown all out of proportion, and somehow the Dept. of Justice is illegally involved. This was a good article, and frankly, I was comforted that it is from the Atlanta paper. http://www.ajc.com/services/content/printedition/2008/10/19/tucked.html

Diana, Michele Bachmann has been an embarrassment since from the get-go. Her clinging to Bush was shown here repeatedly at the time, and has resurfaced in opposing ads. I haven’t caught the entire statement yet, but you will be happy to know that there have been consequences. She is a hardline Republican extremist, and I will be glad to see the last of her. Her DFL (dem) opponent has gotten 12,000 new contributers in the last 24 hours - to the tune of $600,000. In one day, he has pulled even on money. Bachmann has had to spin her way out of the hole she dug herself, and no longer has a money advantage. Her latest TV ad looks like a Jr High production. Even as I type this, Tinklenberg is up to $650k in the past half-hour. Earlier today it was only +$438k, updated to $600k during the evening news. We are having a genuine Town Hall meeting as I type, not one of McCain’s Q&A rallies that he calls a THM. This one is dead serious, covering state and local issues.

Oops, hit the wrong button. Bachmann and Ayres have been brought up during the meeting. Nobody was buying the the right-wing spins.

Golly, Zera, I had never heard of her before her idotic statements. I hope Tinklenberg does her in. People like her don’t realize how close to McCarthyism and then to Fascism they are, I guess. By the way, I love Tinklenberg’s name, it sparkles :)

She kicked around the MN Senate 2000-2006, In 2006 she beat “the” Patty Wetterling (Jacob Wetterling Foundation, child safety activist) for the House seat. This is what she said on Hardball: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=—Ed9Oe8Gvs It helped Colin Powell to chose to endorse Barack Obama. HUGH! Honestly, I had not heard of Tinklenberg either - they are 6th district and I’m in the 4th (Betty McCullom), but Elwyn (even his first name says not-your-usual guy). This race is suddenly much more competative! You may have heard of Michele during the 2006 State of the Union Address. When I said she clung to Bush, I meant it literally: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=—Ed9Oe8Gvs Someone put together a clip of it with (ironically) music from “Top Gun”. Whimsical: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfJepxPPBok Here she is agreeing with Ann Coulter: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUHhX76AShs Michele is a real piece of work. In an additional twist, Norm Coleman (R) is trying to ride the anti-smear wave back to the high road. After editing a video of Franken retelling a story about Paul Wellstone (a true grass-roots politician and a tragic loss) and his son to make it look like a lunatic. Franken struck back by showing the entire clip, including sound. After that, Coleman took the pledge and dropped attack ads. He is even calling on McCain to stop the robo-call “terrorist” ads. There is a scandel that Coleman is renting a bedroom in DC in the house of a lobbyist. In another twist, that lobbyist is running the robo-call ads. He is only 2% ahead of Al Franken (once of SNL) in what is being called the most expensive Senate race in the country. There is an independent running against them. His fundraising has yielded $45k as opposed to $14M - $32M for Franken and Coleman, and yet he sits at 18% in the polls (Franken 39%, Coleman 41%). Dean Barkley is my kind of underdog. He does not take ANY lobbyist money. Minnesota politics is a bit like a sitcom. lol We are more than Tim Pawlenty and the RNC Convention.

My first cousin has lived in St. Paul for years, Zera, and he says the same thing about the unusual politics up there. I figured that out when you all had Jesse for your governor. I miss Wellstone; his death was so untimely.

Diana, there is a speech I think you would find interesting, if your cousin can copy it for you. On May 3, 2006, Arne Carlson (R)(fmr Gov. of MN) and Christine Todd Whitman (R)(fmr Gov. of NJ, author of “It’s My Party, Too”) spoke to members of the Minnesota Women’s Campaign Fund. http://www.mnwcf.org/ The theme was “Lost Balance: Moderation in Politics”. They talked about how the Republican party has strayed from the party of Lincoln and Eisenhower and Teddy Roosevelt, and how women are still woefully underrepresented in government, and why society suffers for it. These are a couple of Republicans who want the party to pull itself back from the extreme right and return to the party it used to be. It is well worth watching for those who can find it. If your cousin still lives in St. Paul, ask him to tape it for you next time they air it. TPT rebroadcasts it from time to time on the digital 17.2 channel. And thanks, Diana, I miss Paul too. He was our Mr. Smith, and I am glad we sent him to Washington. He breathed life into “We the People”. I’m sure you already knew that, but I just had to say it anyway. Sigh.
