Sarah Palin for President in 2012?

There’s more than just a few rumors out there that conservatives and Sarah Palin fans are planning for a Sarah Palin Presidential run in 2012.  The thinking among these "Saranistas" is, if McCain loses this year’s election, Palin not only could emerge as the party’s 2012 nominee, but she could be the GOP’s next Ronald Reagan.

In fact, one Republican even called Palin "the new Ronald Reagan."

There’s also a grassroots effort cropping up on the Web to put Palin in the White House in 2012.

A Google search of "Sarah Palin for president" turns up pages of results. Many sites like Palintology.com and palinforpresidentblog.com are championing her candidacy, and there are even some YouTube "ads" out there promoting her 2012 candidacy.

Among the chattering class, the positioning of Sarah as the Republican Party’s standard bearer for the future has already started:

"Win or lose, there is a ready-made conservative candidate waiting in the wings. Sarah Palin is not the new Iain Duncan Smith, she is the new Ronald Reagan," Jim Nuzzo, a White House aide to the first President Bush, told the U.K.’s Sunday Telegraph

David Frum, a former Bush speechwriter, has said Palin isn’t ready to be president now or then, but he still acknowledged that she likely could be the nominee four years from now. Palin "emerges from this election as the probable frontrunner for the 2012 nomination," he told the Telegraph. "Her supporters vastly outnumber her critics. But it will be extremely difficult for her to win the presidency."

Frum also told New York magazine in an article for this week’s issue that, "The people who criticize her do so because we have some hope that we could be in contention in 2012, and there’s some risk that she could be the party’s nominee, and she’d probably lose – and even if by some miracle she won, she’d be a terrible president."

Not everyone is so pessimistic about her chances, however.

One key Republican promoting a Palin run in 2012 tells USA Today: "As of today, Palin is the top contender. She clearly has the potential to be a winning top-of-the-ticket candidate: solid character, solid values, fire in the belly, etc. But four years is a long time. Neither [Mitt] Romney, [Mike] Huckabee, or others have the complete package. If Palin spends a bit more time traveling overseas and domestically, broadening her horizons, and wins re-election in Alaska in 2010, she will be the nominee in 2012."

Greg Mueller, who was a senior aide in the presidential campaigns of Pat Buchanan and Steve Forbes, told Politico that if John McCain loses the general election to Barack Obama next week, Palin "has absolutely earned a right to run in 2012." He said Palin has given conservatives "hope" and "something to believe in."

But even if McCain only serves one term – Palin could also try for her own bid. By then, she would have had four years of experience as a vice president and would be much more knowledgeable of not just Washington, but the world. If McCain loses, Palin could win re-election in Alaska, raise her national profile by, perhaps, take a leadership position in the Republican Governors Association or the National Governors Association, and better prepare herself in the next four years.

Palin is now trying to break free of her campaign handlers’ constraints that have restricted what she talks about, when, and to whom, since McCain announced his vice presidential pick. Even one McCain insider said the Alaska governor is "playing for her own future and sees herself as the next leader of the party.”

Palin has repeatedly stated that she would be more aggressive in making the case against Obama that the McCain campaign has – which has made many conservatives who say McCain has been too soft on Obama even more wild about her future role in the party - while she’s also distanced herself from campaign tactics such as robocalls.

One National Review post written after Palin’s much-anticipated debate against Sen. Joe Biden, said: "She’s a natural saleswoman. She certainly saved her prospects for national office in 2012, if she so chooses. She certainly, my guess is, reenergized the GOP base and independents, centrists, and undecided, if they’re honest with themselves, will conclude that they witnessed an impressive woman tonight."

Congratulations, C Hardy. I wish you all the best. A big move up in the alphabet, too. ;-) I recommend “Amélie” too. Audrey Tautou got several award nominations for it.

I did not read the article, etc., but - I do know that Ron Regan disagreed vehemently with his father’s political views.

You probably will not be alive if you have Universal Health Care, lack of Doctors, technology and long lines. There have been many Documentaries on this subject. I watched one of the same that was by Sixty Minutes which was over in Canada talking to a Woman who had a brain tumor,it would be six months before she could even get a M.R.I.,and after this was accomplished she would be put on a list to see when she could be operated on which turned out to be at least another six months, this meant that she would more than likely be dead before they could get to her and she realized this. Also some Women from there are coming here for problematic child birth procedures because of reasons i mentioned above, this seems to be the problem with Countries that have this system.Than to pay for this every tax you now pay will increase dramatically, which means you will have as good of chance of starving to death as getting the health care you need. And the statement above “And our Country lost all blessings from God” DEM”Could Bill Clinton have added to this with his lack of morals while in the White House ? What about “PETA” and other organizations like them that take the Gov. to court and drag out law suites to stop the fence from being built because they are worried what will happen to something stupid like a spotted ant.Than there’s the issue where two Border Agents were put in Prison for shooting a Drug Dealer in the ass while defending themselves. And one more incident is where a van full of illegal immigrants tried to run a Border Agent down and he shot at the tire on the van and the bullet hit a Female illegal in the wrist,I guess he violated her rights, but why should she have any rights here, shes not a legal citizen in our country. And if you are speciffically referring to the part where the Gov. listens in on phone calls who really cares? If you do not have anything to hide i am sure they won’t listen long while you talk to a family member/friend etc. They should not even have to have a warrant to listen to suspected terrorism suspects, after all this might save you’re live if a call is caught ahead of time.AND LISTEN TO WHO ? Is he talking from Mars after he was abducted by Alien’s from another world? If you want Socialism/Communism you’re best bet would be to vote for DEM.OBAMA,because it is very clear that is where he wants to take us !!!! ‘”

that’s BS—-somewhere here is the story of an American visiting Paris—-got sick, was quickly treated and ‘no charge’—-the USA is , has been a Socialist State, if Our citizens were fairly paid for picking oranges, you would have no illegal influx—-no work? why come? as for the guv having free access to my private mail, phone, net? ‘the land of the free’ apparently escapes you—-as a South West resident for quarter century, yeah, had my fill of illegals—-come down your chimney in July—-dressed as Santa—-but how do the ‘bad-boys’ get in? along with the simple ‘ok’, honest ones willing to work jobs no American will take—- AND DO NOT MISSCOOK INLET FAULTS’—-and ‘your witch’ wants a bridge? she’s no idiot—-she went for ‘the bridge-to-nowhere’, when it was deemed absurd, the Fed let AK keep the money—-That is what’s on her mind—-some people’s Naivte’ even surpasses mine—-

probably the most dangerous woman on earth—-both for Alaskans (look at the ‘cook inlet fault’ Sites)—-and You—-well, i guess i get steamed a bit, so i’ll consider your comment—-but in my family’s years in Wasilla, had such a bridge as Palin pushes for existed? no doubt we would have used it. it seems, to me, Any person, male, female, so irresponsible as to actively purse, not simply ‘perhaps’ but certain death and disaster, given time, being in politics? well, the fact her ‘star’ continues to rise? i feel that must be shut down. i, alone or w/9 family ‘commuted’ to Anchorage near daily, as we owned a 10,000 square-foot office building which had survived the 9.3 ‘64 quake—-but funny thing, the floor had numerous ‘ups and downs’—-furthermore, as a ‘responsible’ guv of Alaska, one would have expected her to Push not for ‘The Bridge To Nowhere’, rather moving the capital to the only relatively safe city of Fairbanks—-as it is, the present capital in Juneau is not only removed from Any population center (And only accessible by sea or aircraft), it sits in what most seismologist consider one of the most dangerous sites on earth—- the fact, that as guv, she did Nothing to resolve this issue is proof enough she is neither a responsible human, capable of any proper action as a ‘protector’ of citizens, but simply a pursuer of personal ambitions and ‘special-interest’. i feel this site deserves a ‘loyal-opposition’. this particular election has most ‘stressed-out’—-i am no exception, and this woman scares the hell out of me—-

as you roam this site, you will find many ladies calling men names—-often eliminating ‘key’ letters of same. much seems to revert to one’s childhood—-i was reared in a family where name-calling, as in the military, was common—-but also taught, ‘sticks and stones’. it was years before it Finally became apparent that this ‘practice’ truly does hurt those not ‘hardened’ vs. such—-but learning and practicing are not always the same—-nor an easy thing—-

gulliver I don’t name call, and there are many others that don’t do it either. When it gets hot on some threads with that kind of stuff going on, I just turn the channel and don’t read them. Since you were an Alaskan I was interested in what you had to say. I don’t think any of the politicians that are running haven’t made stupid mistakes. The more I look at them and research on my own, the more I realize they all wander a bit from the norm. LOL. I think all the candidates are a little on the fringe. It is beginning to get humorous.

well, you had a fortunate childhood, mine? not so—-and ‘early’ events are the most persistent—-and yeah all candidates Have made errors. politics attracts ‘controllers’—-they’re always a pain—-i think this prez-race the most aggravating, although the last Bush win-by-fraud the most damaging—-i’m a regged ‘Green’, and doubt we’ll see any improvement in this place until we have a viable 3rd party—- it would be humorous if so much were not at stake—-the Iraqi war is a perfect example—-people seem to forget we actually Made Saddam, armed Iraq for it’s war on Iran—-the UN inspectors were superb at their efforts to find Any sign of the WMD—-to rely on ‘phony’ intelligence(which finished Tony Blair in Britain) and ‘hearsay’ was one disaster. certainly Saddam was a nasty guy, but Euro figures on ‘collateral’ damage (The Lancet, etc.) place the figure of civilian Iraqi deaths at 1,000,000+, while here Bush’s sources say 100,000—-well, even Saddam never approached 100k, let alone 1 million. we’ve lost so many—-for what? Bush has left us a far more dangerous Middle-East, vs. simply going after The Taliban, the true source of terrorist—-what a mess—-

Gulliver, huh? Where a Lilputian when you need one? By the way, I see darn little of women calling men names on this site—except for Sen McCain. Mostly it’s women on women abuse.

My husband is from Ireland, and I lived there for a while too. We love the healthcare there. My best friend, a Chicago nurse who has lived and worked in Canada for the past 19 years ALSO loves their system. We do NOT have an enviable system here; it is an embarrassment and the reason for our following ranking in the world: Infant Mortality Rate 48th Overall Health 72nd Healthcare 37th Life Expectancy 30th

As a Canadian, I can assure you that while our health care system may not be perfect, it certainly is way ahead of what you have in the States. I was diagnosed with pre cancer of my cervix and uterus. Within 3 days I was scheduled for a partial hysterectomy, which occured less than one week later. My youngest son, born with Spina Bifida (split spine), required major surgery within 24 hours of birth, then at one week old needed a shunt placed on his brain to prevent brain damage from hydrocephalus. There was no talk of health insurance, he had access to some of the best surgeons in the country. There was no bill for thousands of dollars. At the age of 6 weeks, he required a new shunt. At the age of 2 another new shunt. At the age of 5 another new shunt, again no bills for thousands of dollars, access to the best surgeons. At the age of 12, our son underwent spinal fusion surgery, done in a two step process. The first required removal of one of his ribs for spacers between his vertabrae, holes drilled into his pelvis. The second required the installation of titanium rods, screws, bolts and wires. He was hospitalized for 6 1/2 weeks. No bills, which would have been massive for such procedures. At the age of 14, he had 7 inches of his femur removed, his ankles broken and reset and part of one of his hips removed and the other manually dislocated. No bills, best surgeons. Again at 14, he had a Cecostomy tube surgery. Similar to a Colostomy except no bag. It is inserted into the cecum so that we can insert Glycerine and saline to cause bowel movements three times a week, while he sits on a toilet. Considered experimental, the surgery itself was free, as well as the surgeon, but we did have to pay 263 dollars for the Cecostomy tube and kit itself, small price to pay to give my son the dignity of not soiling himself in school or other public spaces. All his care, had it been provided in the States, would have left our family with a lifetime of medical bills, here in Canada, thanks to Universal health care, it was taken care of. While some procedures do have waiting lists, and yes certain parts of the country do have doctor/nurse shortages, it is still far better than a medical system that bankrupts millions each year in the USA.
