Sarah Palin Snubs Woman in Texas Endorsement

Sarah Palin’s venturing out of Alaska a lot this week.

First, the former vice-presidential candidate flew to Washington to dine with President Obama and other DC elite for this weekend’s Alfalfa Dinner. Now comes word that the governor’s attempting to use her power to influence a vote down in Texas. The lawmaker this week sent a letter to the "Texas Federation of Republican Women" asking them to reelect Gov. Rick Perry in their forthcoming primary. While that’s news in and of itself, the story becomes especially intriguing when one considers Perry’s competition: Kay Hutchison.

Rather than backing the woman on the ticket, Palin urged voters to back the "true conservative." Writes Palin: "He walks the walk of a true conservative. And he sticks by his guns — and you know how I feel about guns." Palin doesn’t mention Hutchison by name, but does highlight Perry’s right-wing stance on abortion: Not every child is born into ideal circumstances, but every life is sacred. Rick Perry knows this — it is at the core of his being." Though Perry’s camp and Palin are hoping the remarks will help sway voters, others predict these efforts will have little resonance.

Taffy Goldsmith, a Hutchison supporter who once led the Federation, explains, "There is a lot of admiration for Gov. Palin and what she has done both in her own state and to energize the party. But women in this organization are so state-oriented and so well-grounded they will base their decisions on what they know, not what somebody else recommends."

So she should endorse someone just because she is a woman? Speaking of paying taxes….with two cabinet positions dropping out in one day..you all should not be throwing stones.

Ha! Are you kidding me?? You Palin people have been coming into this website everyday since this woman was picked by McCain to be VP admonishing women in here for “not supporting women” because they didn’t support Palin! The hypocrisy of your comment shows both a complete lack of self awareness on your part and audacity. (This goes to every Palin supporter here who says the same thing!)

I would call it a lack of intellectual honesty.

Marina, that’s a good point, but there has to be intellect and reason ability for such to be implemented. The Gov’s snub is ludicrous at best. She obviously is pandering for more male acceptance again, and that speaks of her childhood; sad. Her blatant hatred of women is alarming, but this time she is in deep s - - - . No governorship can save her now. She hasn’t a clue about women in politics in Texas! Shame on her! No! Heaven help her!

NEVER have I advocated a candidate over another based on race or sex. I prefer to take MLK’s words to heart an judge by character. Nothing against Ms. Hutchinson but am sure Sarah has her reasons.

If you have never told another woman in here that she was not being supportive of women because she didn’t support Palin, then you are the ONLY Palin supporter in here who did not.

DeB, I never said that. I did say that the women on here should have given her credit for being a working woman with a family, and her accomplishment of becoming a governor with a high approval rating. It is one thing to be against her politics (which most on here are), but it’s another to not be able to get past that and say she accomplished at least something. She does not have to support a woman anymore than any of us should. It goes against what we should fundamentally believe—we vote for those despite skin color or gender.

The fact that McCain attempted to make her the VP of the USA was a threat to our country and that he would think that putting an unqualified candidate into that spot as a political stunt to attempt to get Hillary supporters on their side was a cynical thing to do and an insult to women.

DeB, I don’t think she was ready, but again…I don’t think Obama is either. I know his accomplishments, and though they are applaudable, it didn’t make him ready. A Harvard degree and being a constitutional lawyer does not make you “shoo-in” for the Pres. Let’s face it—people voted for Obama because of “change,” his ability to speak, and potentially his “freshness.” He had little else to show, and neither did Sarah Palin. Now, in defense of Obama (gasp!)—I think he is doing something that a good leader does—surrounding himself with experienced people that know more than he does. And he keeps speaking—people love that. Though saying, “I screwed up” is kind of surprising. Didn’t they teach him better English at Harvard? Of course, I think he said that to identify with “the folks.”

Just having a president willing to say “I screwed up” after having one who truly screwed up big time the past 8 years but refused to every take responsibility for his decisions and actions… is a very good CHANGE.

Susan, Thank you! I too never once stated that anyone, male or female support Sarah Palin because she was a woman. So people who state such non existant quotes by others, perhaps needs to do their homework and reveiw each and every posting, by each and every person, before misqouting them…..Or, is that a prime example of those that attempt to put words in other people’s mouths to justify their inability to qoute truth, so as to avoid telling it?
