Palin Pulls No Punches in Kennedy, Couric and Fey Attacks (Video)

By The Staff at wowOwow.com

Sarah Palin still isn’t reading the news!

The former vice-presidential candidate, who struggled to name her favorite papers — or any, for that matter — during the campaign, lashed out at Caroline Kennedy yesterday by insisting the public will give the potential New York senator a "free ride" simply because of her family name — and money.

Said Palin in an online video:

I’ve been interested to see how Caroline Kennedy will be handled and if she will be handled with kid gloves or if she will be under such a microscope.

It’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out and I think that as we watch that we will perhaps be able to prove that there is a class issue here also that was such a factor in the scrutiny of my candidacy versus, say, the scrutiny of what her candidacy may be.

Uh-huh … Apparently Palin missed that entire week when everyone was making fun of Kennedy’s excessive use of "you know." Sweet Caroline wasn’t the only woman Palin took a shot at in the video, entitled, "How Obama Got Elected."

The Alaska governor also took some time to criticize Tina Fey, the comedienne whose Palin impersonation raised both their profiles, and Katie Couric, who conducted the aforementioned interview. Both women, claims Palin, "exploited" her for their own advantage. With regard to Fey, Palin sneered:

I did see that Tina Fey was named entertainer of the year and Katie Couric’s ratings have risen. And I know that a lot of people are capitalizing on, oh I don’t know, perhaps some exploiting that was done via me, my family, my administration. That’s a little bit perplexing, but it also says a great deal about our society.

We’re not sure we can really agree with Palin’s charges of "exploitation." First, Fey was simply doing her job — making the nation laugh. And, as you’ll recall, Palin also poked some fun when she herself appeared on Saturday Night Live. As for Couric, well, the journalist simply asked Palin questions. It was Sarah herself who provided the entertainment value.

For those of you who want to hear what else Palin has to say for herself — including how her "mama grizzly" rises when people poke fun at her family — watch this handy video…

Hi Frannie! What is this new avatar? Looks like Turner storm of some kind. Very nice. I’m home for a couple of days. I wish I had a lap-top, but as it is, when I’m away from home I’m away from wowOwow. But I try to catch up on the days when I get to be here, and you’ve posted some wonderful things in the past few days. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t think Sarah Palin’s views and life-style are anything I could ever approve, no matter how well she may articulate them. It will always amaze me that she created such a stir, but there’s a lesson in there somewhere, i suppose. I was delighted this morning to wake up to Obama’s speech in Philadelphia. And I still believe he’s not all talk. But man, oh man, he’s got one steep (capital) hill ahead of him. Enjoy the Innauguration.

borrowed this from the Kennedy thread…but it makes sense here too! “If nothing else comes out of this, hopefully the PALIN drama will inspire women to follow their dreams. And isn’t that what democracy’s all about?

Women don’t need Palin to inspire them to “follow their dreams”. What Palin inspires women to do, hopefully, is to make sure they back up their dreams with the proper education, information and abilities required to succeed. In other words, make sure you’re qualified for the job.

Palin’s VP pitch failed because of how her own party marketed her story. When Palin was launched, she was described as the Governor of Alaska, who was a mother of five children, whose husband worked with the oil company. In her initial release, the campaign never addressed the issue of who keeps her kids. Whereas with the Obama’s, Michelle always said that her priority was to be home with the kids and the Biden story is familiar in that he almost didn’t take office because of his children. There were many cries of foul play when the media commented on who would keep her kids but she never answered it. If Todd works, who does keep the kids? If she had a great support system then how come she didn’t mention it? What would have been the harm? Michelle Obama talks about her mother. This is on par with the Katie Couric/newspaper question that she blew off because she didn’t like the question. If she had answered it, the story would have been over with. Palin made the issue bigger by dodging it. The very core of the Palin story – a working mother of school-age children – did not sit well with me because I have listened to Dr. Laura and Janet Parshall’s America who both state that a woman should be at home raising her kids; which again made the media questions of child care fair game. What blew me away most about Palin, was not how she handled the press (although as a journalism major she really should have done better) was when she proudly admitted that she takes her son Trig to work with her, which I view as a total abuse of power. Can the governor not afford child care? How many women would be fired today if they brought their child to work? Was she allowed to do this because as the Governor, she makes the laws? Totally unacceptable. Palin’s debut didn’t jive with her own party’s lingo and was a shocker to many who were so used to hearing all of the rhetoric. Would that have happened if she had been a Democrat? True that if she had been a Democrat, the story of a working mother would not have been so hard to accept. But the real deal is that in the rush to select her, her own party failed to develop a package, a story to market her. They didn’t properly prepare her or themselves and it showed. I am a mother of two who spent 14 years in the Army so trust me when I say that I have seen sexism. That wasn’t sexism – that was questioning.

I was astounded at the blatant sexist and snarky things said about Hillary. Of course, when she said anything about it, she was told to quit whining. When Palin complains, she is treated as a victim. I was not a Hillary supporter, but I was furious at how she was treated. She deserved to be judged for the issues, not her pantsuits. Who cares what she wears or how she laughs? There is incredible sexism in politics and the Lame Stream Media. Instead of complaining about Palin, we should focus on the sexism issue - for every woman in politics. We should call attention to the bitchy remarks (by male and female reporters) and demand these women be treated with respect.

Actually Palin was one of the people who told Hillary to quit whining. Palin said she couldn’t support Hillary, although she was a woman, because of Hillary’s whining! you just can’t make this stuff up!

Hillary did whine and it was the DEMS that called her on it. Remember when Hillary said “Why do I have to go first? I am always going first.” during a debate with Obama. The Dem party almost looked like it was going to be split in two during the Obama and Hillary deal. It was kinda crazy and heart breaking to watch. Kinda like what I am seeing with Blago. No you sadly can’t make this stuff up.

Here is Sarah Palin on Hillary Clinton and ‘bias’ in the media: at Newsweek’s Women and Leadership Event, March 2008, Los Angeles before Palin became the nominee and decided if when she whines, it’s o.k.. “I think fair or unfair and I do think it is a more concentrated criticism Hillary gets on so many fronts. I think that’s unfortunate, but fair or unfair I think she does herself a disservice to even mention it, really I…I mean you gotta plow through that! you hafta know what you’re gettin into um… which I say this with all due respect to Hillary Clinton and to her experience and to her passion for changing the status quo also but um when I hear a statement like that um, coming from a woman candidate with any kind of perceived whine about that excess criticism or, um, ya know, maybe a sharper microscope put on her, I think, man, that, that doesn’t do us any good uh, women in politics uh, women in general wanting to progress this country ah. I, I don’t think it’s, it bodes well for her, a statement like that. Because again, fair or unfair, it is there. I think that’s reality and I think it’s a given I think people can just accept that that she is going to be under that sharper microscope. So be it! I mean work harder! Prove to an even greater degree that you’re capable that you’re gonna be uh the best candidate and that of course is what she wants us to believe at this point. So uh ah it bothers me a little bit at this point hearing her bring that attention to herself on that level.”

I think Hillary was bitching about her treatment - not whining. That’s different. ;)

Oh you are right Kathrine. B-g is much worse. Thanks for the clarification:)

Palan (SarahSixPack.com) has a future in national politics, but whining about the media ain’t gonna help her. She’s still got a bully pulpit (that is, the media is still covering her), so she should be talking about substantive issues.

I agree Bill, pick an issue, enact legislation and become America’s darling…her criticism will get her just what she deserves.
