A Post-Election Talk-Show Future for Sarah Palin? A Right-Wing Oprah? A Velveeta Martha?

By The Etceterist

If Sarah Palin were a talk show host, who would she be? A little bit of Tyra? A little bit of Anne Coulter? A combo of both, chatting on both clothes and conservatism? A right wing Oprah?  The Velveeta Mooseburger Martha?

That is the question agents and managers at the top talent agencies in New York and Los Angeles began wondering over the weekend as they read the latest polls. Never mind that she is obliged to fulfill her term as governor of Alaska, a star is born, repeat, A Star is Born. And these agencies have just a few weeks to finalize their pitches to America’s most famous hockey mom, proposing the amazing deals they can do for her in the fields of books, television, radio, endorsements, moose hunts … you name it.

Here are a few of the ideas blowing in the wind … and in the minds of Hollywood’s and New York’s talent packagers:

— Room on "The View."
— A weekly "60 Minutes" segment with Sarah and Hillary Clinton reviving the 70s-era "Point-Counterpoint" style debates between Shana Alexander and the conservative James J. Kilpatrick.
— Her own daily talk show, positioned as the anti-Ellen.

While the talk show idea is said to play to Palin’s particular communications strengths, consensus is forming that a media career of some sort is in the stars if, as is increasingly likely, she does not find herself in Washington D.C. as Vice President this January.

The only place she would fit is on Fox where they are hard right wing and don’t tolerate dissenting opinions. (I know, I know, there are liberal chanels as well, but this question is about where Sarah Palin fits.) I do not see her faring well as a talk show host because she seems to be so poorly read and informed. Whether you hold a strong opinion or not, the only way to be successful as a talk moderator is if you are extremely aware and hold your point of view because of a strong base of information.

Barbara- I see the perfect place for Palin as co-host with Hasellbeck on Fox News. They are both radical, ill informed and hateful. They could also fit in quite nicely with Sean Hannity, since I heard Hasellbeck say she calls Sean to get her talking points for The View!!

Barbara: So you know there are liberal chanels as well, do ya? How about ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN etc. etc. Fox is only one station against all the big LIB STATIONS.

I must say she sure is cheesy - smile, wink and all. I really think she should be likened to Julia Child. Fumbles and Bumbles and wow she can cook moose stew like no one else. Even when she adds wolf ears, its indescribable and yummy!

I see The View as a perfect fit, replacing conservative Elizabeth who is equally brain dead, but without the experience or even the looks. At least she’d have some sort of record and background to stand on when she pontificates, defends her position, whatever. Okay, really - just let her go back to Alaska, fulfill her obligations there and especially FOCUS ON HER FAMILY. No woman should sacrifice her family in the name of ambition (nor should any man). Our children are our future so give them a chance - especially as we have elected to be their parents. Does that mean anything any more? I believe Michelle Obama has the edge here - and her husband is close behind but hey! he’s the one running for President.

Carol- I agree on the family focus idea! However, I watch the View and I would hate to hear her everyday.

Yagotit, TeeZee … from what Palin said in Scranton today, she knows it, too, ““America just can’t afford another big spender in the White House,” so guess she’s looking around for another job. And, it looks like the Joe 6 Packs, and hockey moms aren’t rescuing her (wink).

Okay, ETC…you’ve got my vote on this post! I mean..Velveeta Mooseburger? Terrific! I’m always watching for a pseudonym waiting to happen and that one is fabulous to contemplate….(I stole it first)….”She”(Velveeta) could have a point of view like Georgette Mossbacher dontcha think….. Cooking show? Naw…”The Trailer Trash Cookbook” has been done already..(really….Amazon….) My daughter called to ask if I had a good gumbo recipe….”Why?”….Well, she said,” There’s this huge okra windfall here this week and…..” You can fill in the next line……(so…is she off her diet again?…is Steadman with her?)

Like I said in a post to today’s Liz Smith WoW column, Palin’s already running for 2012. I don’t think it’s any coincidence she’s contradicting McCain out on the stump. The GOP knows 2008’s a lost cause, so they’re taking measures already to separate Sarah from McCain - lest the Democrats try to paint them as Siamese twins four years from now. Yesterday, she came right out and disagreed with McCain’s stance on relations with North Korea. Palin continues to publicly disagree with the McCain campaign’s decision to abandon Michigan. The Republicans know they have a sure-fire winner with Palin atop to the GOP ticket in 2012, if Obama-Biden fail to turn the economy around in the next four years - no easy task.

With that voice, she sure isn’t Oprah or Martha with their trained and beautiful voices. Maybe she would end up on FOX or perhaps Pat Robertson’s network, the name of which escapes me.

She should host ‘Meet The Press’. LOL
