A Post-Election Talk-Show Future for Sarah Palin? A Right-Wing Oprah? A Velveeta Martha?

By The Etceterist

If Sarah Palin were a talk show host, who would she be? A little bit of Tyra? A little bit of Anne Coulter? A combo of both, chatting on both clothes and conservatism? A right wing Oprah?  The Velveeta Mooseburger Martha?

That is the question agents and managers at the top talent agencies in New York and Los Angeles began wondering over the weekend as they read the latest polls. Never mind that she is obliged to fulfill her term as governor of Alaska, a star is born, repeat, A Star is Born. And these agencies have just a few weeks to finalize their pitches to America’s most famous hockey mom, proposing the amazing deals they can do for her in the fields of books, television, radio, endorsements, moose hunts … you name it.

Here are a few of the ideas blowing in the wind … and in the minds of Hollywood’s and New York’s talent packagers:

— Room on "The View."
— A weekly "60 Minutes" segment with Sarah and Hillary Clinton reviving the 70s-era "Point-Counterpoint" style debates between Shana Alexander and the conservative James J. Kilpatrick.
— Her own daily talk show, positioned as the anti-Ellen.

While the talk show idea is said to play to Palin’s particular communications strengths, consensus is forming that a media career of some sort is in the stars if, as is increasingly likely, she does not find herself in Washington D.C. as Vice President this January.

I was thinking more of a female Jerry Springer.

Sandbee, I was right inline with your thought, I went for Steve Wilko he is so offensive! I always hoped the backstage part of Jerry Springer and The Ricki Lake show was a sterilization place, so they could not reproduce! I found my self liking Jerry Springer the person(NOT THE SHOW), when he was on Dancing with The Stars!

Hi BT…..well, darling is as darling does (paraphrase granny)….. That is a nifty concept….(see H. Post, above)… I read the first page of comments there and it seems to get an A+ in the smartypants department…and the complainers are evidently up to their ears in sour grapes… I hope the O crew has been documenting their process. It would make a great read/look….From time to time I still drag out The War Room video, the doc about the Clinton campaign..(.you know, when James Carville and Mary Matlin were dating?) I do dearly hope that the true poll numbers are skewed downwards because so many…especially the millennials…have cell phones and are not enumerated by landline surveys..

She only seems to inspire hate. Do we need that?

Hi Elizabeth, First I think she will write a book because she will make millions on that, then seek higher political office—if not president, then senator. Have you been to the Garden? Lily still has her message up for you (on the right hand “email me” side). Today is Thanksgiving Day in Canada—so Happy Thanksgiving to all our Canadian friends!!!!

Dear Elizabeth…Hate? No. “Hate the sin, love the sinner”…now that’s always hard…. Ridicule? Satire? Laughable? Where do we make the distinctions? I surely don’t know…but I think I know hate when I see it… We don’t need that from any quarter….

No I mean if you look at her audiences, they are yelling things like Kill Obama. For some reason, she attracts and motivates the looniest part of the right wing. She inspires hate, not at herself, at others. And she may not even intend it. [I am not imagining this, read this write-up of one o her rallies: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/10/06/AR200810 ] Maybe I watch too much C-SPAN.

I agree Elizabeth, we don’t need the hate that she incites. I keep hoping the American people are better than this and she won’t be able to find an audience sympathetic to her views. Instead others are getting into the act http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/10/12/AR200810 And for the truth - this link is to a piece in newsweek verified by FactCheck.org http://www.newsweek.com/id/163396

it’s frightening we are considering her for anything!!! She does inspire hate and division… perhaps we ought to not give her any more of our time, and hopefully she can go home and take care of her own children… i wonder, how can one recreate childhood? it happens once and then it is over!!! Go home Sara!!

I don’t know, Jacq, home may not be such a comfortable place for the Governor given the dark mood of her constituents. Her approval ratings have plummeted, Alaskans seem to be feeling increasingly abused, embarrassed, and outraged: http://shannynmoore.wordpress.com/2008/09/27/alaskans-for-truth-rally-re…
