Sarah Palin a 'Wasilla Hillbilly,' Didn't Know Africa a Continent? Fox News Begins Regurgitating Rumors From Camp McCain (Video)

The takedown of Sarah Palin seems to be in full swing. What’s most interesting is that the smears (she didn’t know Africa was a continent and shopped like a "Wasilla Hillbilly," for example) seem to be coming from the McCain camp and being pipelined through the media, with conservative Fox News leading the way.

It began yesterday when Fox News Channel’s Carl Cameron told anchor Shepard Smith that unnamed sources within the McCain campaign told him that McCain’s running mate, Sarah Palin, didn’t know Africa was a continent, or what countries are in the North American Free Trade Agreement (United States, Mexico and Canada).

Cameron, chief political correspondent, finally decided to reveal startling undisclosed reports on the governor of Alaska — saying that McCain aides were concerned that Palin "lacked the degree of knowledgeability" to become the vice president of the United States. He said Sarah Palin "got angry at staff," was "hard to control emotionally" and "didn’t accept preparation for the (Katie Couric) interview."

McCain and his aides admitted to Cameron that selecting Sarah Palin was a "Hail Mary" strategy.

Another rumor reported post election: Sarah Palin reportedly spent thousands more on her clothing than the reported $150,000, reports Newsweek.

"Newsweek has also learned that Palin’s shopping spree at high-end department stores was more extensive than previously reported. While publicly supporting Palin, McCain’s top advisers privately fumed at what they regarded as her outrageous profligacy. One senior aide said that Nicolle Wallace had told Palin to buy three suits for the convention and hire a stylist. But instead, the vice-presidential nominee began buying for herself and her family — clothes and accessories from top stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus …

"An angry aide characterized the shopping spree as Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast, and said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books."

The Post Chronicle reports where they think the whispers are coming from and why: "The McCainiacs are trying to destroy this woman to cover up for their own incoherent incompetence — and the shortcomings of their leader."

Watch the FOX News clip below for an example of the media acting as a pipeline for the alleged reports from McCain’s camp.

It is unfortunate that the subject is clothing. As women, I think we are not immune to criticism and should not expect a pass. It defeats our efforts. At the outset, folk were afraid to say anything negative about Palin and Clinton (Hillary) for fear that women voters would not appreciate it. I question whether that behavior serves us. We criticize men for $400 haircuts and why not criticize women for waistful spending as well? Should we expect special treatment?

As I have said before, Sarah Palin was chosen by a bunch of jaded misogynists who thought they could just add ANY woman to the ticket, and all the women in the U.S. would automatically vote for her because she has xx chromosomes…These men operate on that antiquated notion that women are the ‘dark continent’ who are as unknowing as we are unknowable…”Why, women don’t THINK! Who are THEY to understand what’s good for them any way.” They believe that if we see a woman in nice clothes with a well-dressed family, there would be NO DOUBT that we would vote for HER! Well, Sarah Palin IS NOT (thank God) me, and her values ARE NOT mine. As a feminist, I believe it was easy for most of us to see through the governors VERY thin veneer and see her as someone who would have sent women’s rights in giant strides BACKWARDS, rather than advancing our cause. As Maureen H. stated earlier, if she’d been a smarter woman she would have seen WHY she was chosen, and what a loss would inevitably mean to her personally. I don’t feel sorry for her. God only knows how she managed to ascend to the office which she is in! It certainly WAS NOT intellect that got her there! I heard all the Republican men I work with talking about how “hot” she is….Maybe this is what you need be in order to hold the highest office in the coldest state in the U.S., but it isn’t the best criterion used in selection of a Vice President ( and therefore a POTENTIAL President) of the United States of America! As far as portraying her as the ‘mother of America’,she isn’t even a good mother to her own children. It is a cold mother, indeed, who forces her pregnant teenage daughter into a shotgun marriage! I have two teenagers myself ( a boy and a girl), and I think she is a sorry excuse for a mother, and I can’t imagine that she is any more capable of being an adequate governor! Thank God our nation dodged THAT bullet (this metaphor is a nod to her ‘life-long’ membership in the NRA)!

This happens when the path has been forged only because people “like” you You can’t learn common sense… especially during a political campaign. 1. She appears to have gone into politics like it was a popularity contest which in Alaska appears to be the case. 2. She selected a political career and didn’t do her homework on any topic outside of her immediate areas of interest. “Expert on energy” ??? 3. She appeared to allow her husband to co-govern with her. 4. She didn’t seem to even realize that she wasn’t prepared. Why ?? 5. She allowed her ego to exceed her common sense… why didn’t she question why the Republican party wanted her ? Then took offer anyway. 7. She didn’t appear to even utilize the coaching when it was offered. My concerns are always when a women attempts a position without the resume to document qualifications. As women, if we understand our own strengths how can we hold others accountable when we over reach and lose.

Oh I couldn’t agree more. She let her ego get in the way. John McCain only picked her to get back at the GOP for not letting him put Lieberman on the ticket. Sarah needs to go back to Alaska and stay silent, because every time she opens her mouth she proves just how incompetent and out of touch she really is. I guess that comesw from living in Alaska. She is nothing like me or any women I know.

The Republican know it alls. I mean that they say the know what the party is all about, are all saying that their really is no Republican Party anymore. That they in courting the far Right, created a fracture in their base. they lost the Regan Democrats and The Independent vote. They blame the economy, they blame each other, they blame the Media, they blame the Radio, a few blame Bush, yet they take no responsibility for their alienating actions. How does one have Trust in a Party that lies to you. How do you have Trust in a Party that knew their VP Candidate was not Qualified, Yet they tried to convince us she was. That she was completely unpaired for such a position, in so very many ways. Yet they did the damnedest to sell her to us. And Day after day it was so wrong that we questioned this choice. Poor judgment on this Hail Mary! John McCain sold himself to Republican insiders that submarined him at every turn. Palin’s Ego, never saw them coming, after all she never even Blinked. That was my first clue, She never even Blinked. By the time everything comes out about this She won’t be able to be Elected Dog Catcher . Yet they tried to sell her to us as ready to be President. Hello GOP, why is your Party in collapse? Because of Your Parties Actions…Hum you might say,”She is being feed to the Wolves” They planed it all along…So how does a citizen of this country Trust in The GOP! They almost put the most unqualified person in office knowingly. This is not Country First…Think of how awful it would have been and They Knew it!!!!

Well, Not knowing Africa is a continent does seem pretty lame for anyone in a high political office. But for McCain’s people to go complaining to Fox of all networks. Why do that now?? McCain took blame for his loss, and picking Palin was a major blunder on his part. It cost him votes, but his utter lack of economic issues and turning to the Right is what really did him in. btw, Palin’s high ratings in Alaska took a big drop. That is probably why the senate race is so tight and too close to call.

none of this surprises me at all…she was being ‘used’… they thought would get the female vote….amongst other things…they thought men would vote ‘for her’ because she is “hot” ( which i don’t ‘get’ ..but i am not a guy)… sorry, sarah is not like ME at all..i KNOW africa is a continent- third grade geography…and i am not a ‘soccer mom’ or that type at all….she had nothing that resonated with me at all nor most of the women i know…they all have brains and know how to speak….

I kept hoping they would let “Sarah be Sarah” and not try to handle her. People would have know right off the bat she was stupid. It would’nt matter to the base she apealed to because they knew she was one of “them” and not an intellectual.

All I know is, there will be an admirable woman in the White House for at least four more years. I plan to watch and learn from her.

I did/do not care for Sarah Palin, however I think it is horrible that Fox News has reported that top advisers are not shuffling the blame to her. Many, many factors led to the Obama victory and the defeat of the McCain ticket, she was just one factor.

McCain and his aides admitted to Cameron that selecting Sarah Palin was a “Hail Mary” strategy.” … another reason McCain did not deserve to win the presidency. How dare he inflict a “Hail Mary” strategy on the future of this country by putting this woman, whom they are now ripping apart, into a position of potential president.

Since AK Senator Ted Stevens is now a convicted felon he will undoubtedly lose his seat and then Palin could appoint herself US Senator to take his spot. All news programs tonight were ripping her apart as is the Newsweek article. And GOP party honchos are convening in VA this weekend to try to recast their Bush-trashed ‘brand.’

On Monday, I attended a Hillary Clinton rally in St. Charles, Missouri. I was standing in the middle of a cluster of Hillary supporters. They were all flabbergasted by McCain’s choice of Palin, and insulted to the extreme that anyone could assume that they would support Palin, who is the antithesis of everything Hillary is and everything for which she stands.
