The Sarah Palin Bikini Photo Fraud: Photoshop, the Internet and the Politics of Personal Destruction

By The Staff at wowOwow.com
From Left to Right: Flickr.com/ Flickr.com

It’s the oldest trick in the book. Destroy the credibility and character of a high-profile woman by simply finding a salacious picture of or rumor about her and make sure as many people as possible see it or hear about it. Don’t have such a picture?

Just make one up.

It’s no surprise that Americans revved up their Internet search engines immediately after Sen. John McCain chose Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. In only a few days, the number of U.S. Internet searches for the name "Sarah Palin" has soared higher than any other politico in the last three years, according to the media company Smart Brief, Inc.

But the marketers of the politics of personal destruction — or perhaps just a bored Internet blogger — have used the popularity of the Sarah Palin search query to create a viral frenzy over an insidiously faked Photoshopped picture of Gov. Palin in a red, white and blue bikini holding a gun. Overnight, this image is appearing as an actual photo from her past and is being posted on thousands of blogs and message boards worldwide.

Want proof?

Google the term "Sarah Palin Bikini Photos," a rising Internet search.

While many in the blogosphere know that the photo is a compilation of Gov. Palin’s head on the body of an anonymous gun-toting bikini-clad lass, it is also being embedded into countless sites as a true representation of the candidate. Clearly, this is an image that has been carefully crafted to ignite the worst kinds of misogynistic, hyper-partisan commentary.

Mugs, save me a four pairs, please. (Want to give them as Christmas gifts.) And while you’re at it, could you please whip up a couple of Lieberman turncoats? Thanks so much, Mo

Oh, just to say, the flip-flops come with both faces of Sen. McCain, the “young Elvis,” i.e., the person he was that made people want to support him, and the “other Elvis,” i.e., the one he has become to suck up to the neo-cons. And of course, they are made in China, sold at WalMart, and one size fits all!

Mugsy. Do those flips that do flops look good with a bikini? I might want a few pair. I can pass them out to the hunters in my area.

It’s old hat. They did it to Hillary all the time. Difference is, it’s being done to a Republican, and they are right on it.

That’s SO right Marjorie, It doesn’t matter that just this past March Sarah Palin criticized Hillary for “whining” about the media’s treatment of her; It doesn’t matter that Carl Rove himself said that a selection such as Palin would be crassly political and bad for the country (When he thought Obama might choose a VP nominee who wouldn’t be qualified to be President); It doesn’t matter that McCain Spokeswomen Nancy Pfotenhauer attacked Hillary Clinton in the fall of 2007 for playing the “sexism” card, and is now defending Sarah Palin against the sexist media. The important thing is that we must rally around this extremely dangerous Vice Presidential pick and hope that nobody starts to question McCain’s mental state. I’m with YOU Marjorie!

Just last spring, Palin herself scoffed when Hillary Clinton’s campaign complained about a double standard in coverage. “When I hear a statement like that coming from a woman candidate with any kind of perceived whine about that excess criticism, or maybe a sharper microscope put on her, I think, ‘Man, that doesn’t do us any good, women in politics, or women in general, trying to progress this country,’ ” Palin said.

This one is too stupid even for me to take it on. I better pick my issues and try to keep whatever IQ pts have not evaporated over all this.

I’m not a fan of Palin - I think she’s scary AS IS. The thought of her in office is a horror movie I don’t want to watch. That being said - this sort of fraud does nothing but garner sympathy for “Poor Sarah,” who is being picked on by the media (whatev’). Furthermore - I am one lesbian who NEVER want’s to see Palin in a bikini! It gives a whole new meaning to “scared straight.”

Palin has enough going against her being the VP choice of McCain without people Photoshopping fake photographs of her.

Very true what Sarah Is White Trash states… this just doesn’t surprise me either way.. if it was her.. or the fact that it is fraud… We all have to remember the saying: Smart is believing half of what we read…brilliant is knowing what half to believe. !!! how very true…
