Sarah Palin's Saturday Night Live Appearance (Video)

Tina Fey and Sarah Palin didn’t exactly share the stage on Saturday Night Live.  But dressed exactly alike, they did both appear along with Alec Baldwin and Lorne Michael in a wry but subdued opening skit.  Later in the show, she appeared on the Weekend Update news desk while Amy Poehler performed  riotously funny Palin rap.  While no minds were changed by the Governor’s performance, she easily passed the SNL trial by fire.

I see two men pretty loose with the turth—they deserve each other. And you know what? Colin Powell supported Bush 100 percent of the time, not 90!

This morning, I thought he spoke very eloquently, Star. He most certainly did not support Bush 100% of the time—he resigned instead.

If Colin Powell was so opposed, then he should have “resigned” (actually he was replaced) BEFORE he went off to the UN to convince other world leaders that we were justified in invading Iraq. Given Powell’s history, it is astounding that Obama would consider his advice and state publicly that he would be pursuing such if he is elected. Absolutely shocking. Powell was a front row player in the Bush - off to war - administration, doing Rumsfeld and Cheney’s dirty work. The minute he held up that vial he lost all credibility.

Diana He knew that he would not be asked again, as well as, he probably didn’t want to be asked. As I recall, it was very mutual. No big great gesture, if he didn’t resign, he would have been asked to. Colin Powell was a career soldier. Your number one allegiance is to your country, but the commander in chief is your boss. It is ingrained. If you are given a mission, you complete it. I always saw the UN presentation as his mission. He doesn’t think that far out of the box, it wasn’t in his training. I find it funny that some people are surprised that he endorsed Obama for president. I think it is wonderful for Obama, but it seems to me another way to earn back some credibility. He called himself a republican, but he always behaved like a democrat, so it is not surprising. He should follow what he believes, as he has. So?

Frannie Em: …some people are surprised that he endorsed Obama for president. I am not suprised he would endorse Obama, actually I wonder why he took so long. What confuses me is Obama’s reaction to the endorsement. Up until lately, the war was the cornerstone of his campaign. He just could not forgive Hillary and all the rest who voted to allow Bush to go into Iraq. Over and over, he talked about bad judgement. The war was wrong. The war was wrong. All the lives lost. The blood is on the hands of the Congressmen who allowed this to happen. Now Powell comes along, a key enabler of the war, and Obama seeks his wisdom. Your ‘career soldier’ argument carries a little weight, but for me, not enough.

Marjorie, You are right about even if you are a career soldier you can disagree with the President. Very true. I think Colin Powell is a good man but I don’t always think he makes the right decisions. I don’t know. I don’t know if coming out for McCain would have been that big of a deal. I am sure the Obama campaign courted him long and hard. They are leaving no stone unturned. The news comes out that Powell has endorsed Obama and then we see articles about Michelle’s concern for the families of soldiers. I am sure she is, but the announcement is also well timed. We are watching one of the most well run campaigns in history. What can I say? McCain is so used to winning in the 11th hour I don’t think his campaign has gotten him where he needs to be at this point. There was a study of media stories and it was for every 7 positive stories about Obama, there were 2 stories on McCain. I think this is the year that journalism has died. You hardly see any big stories on anything. Russia has just made enormous deals to sell the Syrians huge caches of weapons paid for by the Iranians. Where are the investigative reporters? It is appalling. Maybe I was wrong when I said that credit was the opiate of the people, maybe it is the media with their trash stories or their political newsbreaks.

Diana, I didn’t watch the show so I’m not sure what was said. But, I highly doubt that Powell would bash Gov. Palin — at least I hope he holds himself to higher standards. I see you’ve put a link up. Let me tell you I don’t watch commercial news outlets. It’s either C-SPAN or PBS, that’s it.

Well, perhaps it would behoove you to watch Colin Powell, with his own words, unaltered and not interrupted before you make judgements on others, Marjorie. Otherwise, that’s not being fair with General Powell.

General Powell was not fair to us! We used to depend on his judgment. He seemed the last voice of reason as the bombs fell that night—I remember feeling bitter that he had done nothing. This is before I learned he lied outright about the stupid white powder prop and the other nonsense they paraded out at the UN. I have zero respect for him. Sen Obama can have him!

Diana, You just got to laugh at the very people who support Bush and now McCain are going to trash Powell because he is in favor of Obama. Had he come out for McCain, they would be hooting his goodness. You almost have to feel sorry for them. ANd i just Love the fact that this post about Palin has turned into a post about Powell and Obama!!!

Well, Jennifer, I’ve been fed up for a very long time that ANY opposition to the incumbents, even if it is good intellectual discussion, is regarded as “smashing and bashing”. I got that over the years with religion, politics and economics, and I give a lot of blame to people like Rush Limbaugh et al. that made a norm out of screaming their disagreement. Finally, I believe that most of us must realize that for us to proceed as a truly United States, we are going to have to talk to each other and be civil about it. As for that Congresswoman the other day that says anyone who doesn’t agree with the right’s line of thinking isn’t a good American. Thats not patriotism speaking…that’s McCarthyism, plain and simple. http://www.censurebachmann.com/

In my case, I would have been disgusted with Sen McCain’s wanting the endorsement of someone who didn’t resign when it counted and didn’t apologize for lying until years after he did it. And he did it knowingly.

moi aussie Star, I would’ve been equally unimpressed were he to endorse McCain. In fact I would’ve fluttered a little. Who wants his stupid endorsement anyway? It’s like getting an endorsement from Rumsfeld or Cheney IMHO. How can these Obama supporters have such short memories? Do they question nothing?! I think Colin Powell should just go away with the rest of those war mongers who worked in the west wing. He did his part to get us into this mess. And he played a major role. He was the face of the justification. Now he wants to play in the sandbox again and Obama’s going to let him? Appalling, appalling, appalling. I’m sorry — this one is totally beyond me.

I don’t hoot Powell’s goodness at all. I remember him as the great betrayer of America. The fact that Obama has Powell’s official endorsement does not surprise me. He was supposedly McCain’s friend. Looks like… The Great Betrayer moniker sticks.

Diana, The facts about the war are there as your candidate has pointed out to us many times. It seems odd to me that he would welcome and endorsement from a man who actually lied about the war. If Bush lied, Powell attested to it. I don’t need any further explanations. His word is not credible to me any more. That being said, somewhere deep down in me wants to think of Colin Powell as a man of integrity.
