Sarah Palin's Saturday Night Live Appearance (Video)

Tina Fey and Sarah Palin didn’t exactly share the stage on Saturday Night Live.  But dressed exactly alike, they did both appear along with Alec Baldwin and Lorne Michael in a wry but subdued opening skit.  Later in the show, she appeared on the Weekend Update news desk while Amy Poehler performed  riotously funny Palin rap.  While no minds were changed by the Governor’s performance, she easily passed the SNL trial by fire.

Rocky Sorry about the sappy comment. I had just read many comments about Powell, some were in dissent, but others seemed to go on about him. I think it is an amazing demonstration of what the democrat political machine could pull off with this endorsement. We shall see what happens. It will be hard to tell if it has an effect or not.

Hi again, Frannie Em. No need to apologize. I took no offense. As usual you just gave me a chance to think a bit more about my reaction to the announcement. Never a bad thing — thinking, that is. : )

I fail to understand why Sarah would put herself out there as a parody of herself? Doesn’t she realize how diminished it makes her message? Why on earth would she cross those boundaries of political satire and the real political situation? Did the “wise guys” who are running the McCain campaign honestly think this would up the ante? Looks more like “I fold” kind of stunt to me–––a last ditch effort to put the woman out in the limelight that unfortunately is turning an ugly, sickly green color. It’s one thing to have a little fun poking fun at oneself; it’s another to expose yourself as a complete idiot.

I believe she looks for anyway that she can make appearances without having to answer questions.

Hi Phyliss I was trying to imagine Palin’s extreme right Evangelical supporters tuning in to watch her boogie along with the rather, er, shall we say, “irreverent” rap. I’ll wager she offended a slice of her base with the SNL appearance, and may ultimately pay a price for the air time. CNN reported today that last night’s episode was the largest audience for SNL since Nancy Kerrigan hosted many many years ago. Not too difficult to figure who was using whom.

I didn’t watch this but think it’s just incredibly indicitive of the difference between the two campaigns and the two candidates that on the front page of MSN this morning is a headline about Sarah Palin on SNL and then a headline about Colin Powell endorseing Obama. McCain’s campaign is a campaign of clowns. Whoever is managing it needs to never ever get a job managing a campaign again. on another note… I think I’m in love with Colin Powell now! Such common sense statements!

okay i watched it… it’s not exactly a respectfu of her or her philosophies piece. Wow… bad judgement.

you know what im most worried about with this campaign? exactly what Chris Rock said in his “kill the messenger” gig. He said (only he said it funny cuz he’s a comedian) that Obama’s going to get the most votes and still won’t be given the presidency. He said “ask the indians about white people and RULES”… I’m actually kind of worried about that.

Yes, I heard that too. Sent cold chills down my spine. I’m in no way sanguine about this election process. And Chris Rock has a way of seeing clearly things so many of us miss. Lordy. There is nothing we can do.

History has been made in Chicago today! The Chicago Tribune, a conservative Republican publication since it began in 1847… a paper which has NEVER endorsed a Democratic candidate for president…. has today, endorsed Barack Obama! (This is even bigger than the great news that Colin Powell has ALSO endorsed Obama today!)

Didn’t the Sun-Times make the same, first-ever endorsement for Obama last week?

I doubt that it would be a first ever, the Sun Times was always known to be a Democratic paper, though I do know they also endorsed Republicans from time to time. The Trib however NEVER has endorsed a Democrat before this time, I was quite shocked. Here’s the endorsement, it’s pretty amazing, especially considering the source: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/chi-chicago-tribune-endorseme…

Right, my mistake. The Chicago Tribune, for the first time in its 161-year history, is endorsing the Democratic candidate for president. I hate to sound cynical, but that’s probably due, in part, because Obama’s from Illinois. I mean, Obama clearly is the better candidate. But Clinton clearly was a better candidate than Bob Dole in 1996, and John Kerry a better choice than George Bush in 2004 - yet neither Clinton nor Kerry received the Tribune’s endorsement. Nonetheless, these last-minute endorsements from The Tribune and Colin Powell won’t have much impact on the election, which is going to be a landslide for Obama, barring a major gaffe. What is significant about the endorsements is that they exemplify how even those with traditional Republican ties have conceded the inevitable outcome, and are getting on the winning team while there is still time to.

“The Chicago Tribune did something today it had never done before — it had not endorsed a Democrat for President, not even Illinois Governor Adlai Stevenson in his two runs.” The Chicago Tribune would not endorse Obama merely because he is from Illinois. And as far as any of this making a difference, I’m sure the Trib endorsement only really means A LOT to people from Illinois who are familiar with the history of the Tribune and really appreciate what it means, but that will impact moderate Illinois Republicans who are having a hard time deciding to cast their votes for a Democrat. But I would say the Powell endorsement is far reaching with moderate Republicans and undecided/independent voters across the country.
