Sarah Palin's Saturday Night Live Appearance (Video)

Tina Fey and Sarah Palin didn’t exactly share the stage on Saturday Night Live.  But dressed exactly alike, they did both appear along with Alec Baldwin and Lorne Michael in a wry but subdued opening skit.  Later in the show, she appeared on the Weekend Update news desk while Amy Poehler performed  riotously funny Palin rap.  While no minds were changed by the Governor’s performance, she easily passed the SNL trial by fire.

Well, I didn’t say the Tribune’s Obama endorsement was “merely” because he’s from Illinois, but “in part”. But I don’t believe endorsements sway many people, one way or another, especially so late into the campaign season. Nevertheless, I’m happy for the endorsement. But I also realize that jumping on the Obama ship so late allows the Tribune to say years later that it was “right” in who it picked. I would’ve been much more impressed if the endorsement had come in September, following the conventions, and while it was still a close race, and there were still a lot of undecided voters.

I don’t think they ever make their endorsements earlier than this. They usually wait until a week or two before the elections.

Hey DeBúrca….good to see your avatar and commentary! I wanted to add to the newspaper endorsement discussion with how this is playing out in my little corner of the country. Our local ULTRA conservative newspaper (The News-Register) ran this last Saturday: “In 80 years since Lars E. Bladine purchased the then-Telephone-Register - and doubtless long before that - this newspaper has never endorsed a Democrat for president of the United States. Until today.” The article goes on to list, in thoughtful detail, the reasons for this historic decision. The editorial endorsement itself is full-throated and well-justified. Whew….local rag goes Obama on Saturday, Colin Powell goes Obama on Sunday….what a great weekend!

That is great to hear. It’s exactly how the Chicago Tribune endorsed him, by listing in thoughtful detail, its reason for endorsing Obama. If this is happening across the country it will make an impact. There are those die hards who would like to vote Obama but who have never voted Democratic before. When they see that their local Conservative Republican paper took the plunge, they will too, at least a lot of them.

Stayed up to watch the SNL skit and was totally disappointed; had wanted to see the two women together on stage and it just did not happen. I wonder why? Did Palin refuse to appear side by side with Fey because Fey has so successfully lampooned her without mercy? Cannot come up with a reason why Fey would refuse to appear side by side with Palin. Was totally gratified to see General Powell given the opportunity to lay out for everyone world-wide who catches MEET THE PRESS (not the know-nothings, unfortunately) the reasoning for voting the democratic ticket this time around. Speaking of generals, are you having a problem convincing some concrete-headed individuals that Obama’s middle name does not mean he is a Muslim terrorist? If so, I give you one of the greatest generals in this proud nation’s history, one who outranks Colin Powell, one of a very tiny number honored with the 5 stars of General of the Army: OMAR N. Bradley, hero of World War II. Many, many, many Arabs carry that name. It is not Arabian however, but Iranian (Persian)! I mean, that should make him even MORE of a terrorist threat, huh? Oh yes, we have buried him with the highest honors this country can convey.

It was an okay skit at the end. It showed she has a sense of humor, just as the Alfred Smith Memorial roast last week showed Obama and McCain to be pretty humorous, as well. But I was hoping for interaction between Tina Fey’s impersonation of Palin and Sarah Palin herself. Could’ve been a hoot, but, once again, the McCain campaign put a muzzle on her (pun intende).

Hats off to SNL for not changing one iota of their Palin skits. Palin may love the spotlight, but Mugsy made a good observation on her blog saying that with Palin it’s a matter of dissociation and that she will take “one for the party” in order to raise her own star. But when Baldwin thought that Palin was Tina and made all those comments., man that was brilliant!!!
