Sheila Nevins: Why Palin Is a Great Choice

Sheila Nevins

WOW ladies take a breather. This is a wonderful choice. It is a clear choice and that’s what America stands for. The issues that Palin represents though reprehensible to me - represent a constituency and a voice. American democracy represents the right to disagree. It also represents majority rule. The cards are on the table - race, abortion, gun control, stem cell research, taxation, godliness - you name it. There’s no fudging here - no middle of the road. rhetoric. Americans will declare their absolute preferences. And a woman will stand for this. Being a woman doesn’t mean agreeing with the WOW dames. Palin may not be in whom we trust, but there is an odd equality in the sheer selection. Women can be as arbitrary and right wing as any man. And for those of us for whom Sarah Palin’s beliefs belie our deepest convictions. So be it. The great truths lie in an honest ballot box. Vote and live in America or flee if you must. Great choice in the divide A civil war without bullets. Three cheers for clarity.

DeB You’ve got to be kidding, that she won’t be reported on. We live in a 24 hour news cycle, I bet half the reporters are on their way to Alaska right now. This is a great news story for them, and each wants to be the first to come up with the real dirt. They are going to start slinging big time. Independent voters are usually more moderate and go either way. They don’t like bullshit from either side. They really weigh it all up. At least that has been my experience. They take a look at both sides and then decide.

Most people get their news from mainstream media and it is not reporting the details of this woman. She is being shown as a glamorous, somewhat short on experience (not on just HOW short) but long on “interesting story” choice of “the Maverick”. I’ve been listening to the news and reading the papers and that’s what is getting out to the general public. People do not get both sides from the mainstream media. They get a watered down, entertainment oriented version of the news geared towards short attention spans. This is why the US is rated 53rd worldwide in “freedom of the press”.

Hey De “Do you think this choice indicates that he has stuck by this statement?” No De, I think this means his AGE is already making him forget what he said a few days ago. His Age has always been a bother for me………….now it should be a bother to McCains followers. I’m OLD………….I know how the mind works slower…………and slower…………and slower! Let me tell you anyone who thinks a person (male or female) has the same mental and physical energy in their 70’s as they did in their 50s/60’s is crazy. From 70 on The slide goes down faster.

I think you are right. Also, I think this makes him ripe to be another “front man” just like W has been, for who ever is actually RUNNING the Republican Party.

Sorry Star. Here’s the biggest story to come out so far about her gubernatorial accomplishments — http://www.ickypeople.com/2008/08/palin-brother-in-law-scandal-grows.htm… (in case you haven’t seen it.)

Dorothy W. I think most of the news commentators are a joke today. I do think CNN tries to do a fairly decent job as for MSNBC and the tow I mentioned they are so obvious in their coverage it is reaching a tipping point amongst their own people. You do recall the hoopla on Matthews and Shuster earlier this year. Well soon I wonder if KO will not be asked to leave. Folow the news stories. You will see what I mean. It’s out there in the blogs too! Fox is trying to gain more viewers and Murdoch knows that he has to be seen as more mainstream to suceed. Not that Newscorp is hurting but the stock price is down. It’s laughable, I know to think Fox is now trying to be more fair and balanced but I watch all the news I can to see how the spin is going and their coverage of the Dem Convention was better than MSNBC. BTW anyone think it will be a fait accompli when that first debate takes place between biden and Pallin. I’m thinking maybe if she went topless she could possibly score a few points but Joe Biden will have a hard time not to appear like he knows more than she could ever dream of knowing about foreign policy.

Lanee Barra - Your write “if she went topless she could possibly score a few points…”. Difficult to read a sentence that has a phrase like that one ….. Good grief!

Keithie was almost crying in his frustration to find bad things about her—she once said Hillary was whining. Off with her head! I don’t want those clowns fired—they have to eat. We have remotes.

There is one thing for certain, misogyny is alive and well on this site. I’ve never seen it so bad. What is scaring you women so much?

It isn’t “misogyny” it is GROSS stupidity and I do mean GROSS. I’d love to see the profiles of some of the women who post here. Who are you people? Have you ever taken history/civics? Where do you live, where do you work, what have you done? Because you sound as if live in a trailer park in LA and work at the local KMART. It’s truly disgusting the level of ‘thought’ that is going into deciding who is going to run America. And the irony is—-most the red necks here have expressed they have no money and are voting for what couldnt be more contra to their interests. Really pathetic. Can you drag America down a little more? Does it distrub you at all that all of the presidential historians are agahst? Disgusting. Tacky bimbos for president. Do you know you are being played? She is a puppet for the patriarchy—-that NO ONE has you interest in mind LESS than John McCain. What a pathetic joke. Americans are known for their tackiness and stupidty in Europe and are proving it big time. I always have to apologize when I am there. I am not “one of them.”

Well, you sure popped up in a hurry at the mention of the “m” word, tdfm. Truth hurts. I don’t know which is worse, your hate speech or your obtuseness. Why do you waste your time in a site you despise so much?

Too dumb … “Because you sound as if live in a trailer park in LA and work at the local KMART.” Really? And what would be wrong with that? Very few red necks live in the northeast — that’s where I’m from. Some of us are called Yankees, some of us are called frogs, some of us are called wops, some of us are called Micks… well, I guess you get the picture. Pretty diverse group, but few red necks.
