Sheila Nevins: Why Palin Is a Great Choice

Sheila Nevins

WOW ladies take a breather. This is a wonderful choice. It is a clear choice and that’s what America stands for. The issues that Palin represents though reprehensible to me - represent a constituency and a voice. American democracy represents the right to disagree. It also represents majority rule. The cards are on the table - race, abortion, gun control, stem cell research, taxation, godliness - you name it. There’s no fudging here - no middle of the road. rhetoric. Americans will declare their absolute preferences. And a woman will stand for this. Being a woman doesn’t mean agreeing with the WOW dames. Palin may not be in whom we trust, but there is an odd equality in the sheer selection. Women can be as arbitrary and right wing as any man. And for those of us for whom Sarah Palin’s beliefs belie our deepest convictions. So be it. The great truths lie in an honest ballot box. Vote and live in America or flee if you must. Great choice in the divide A civil war without bullets. Three cheers for clarity.

Terri: …”You idiot women”….. Don’t know if you’re new here, but this goes on all the time on this site. There are a couple of women who genuinely feel only smart women vote for Obama. The rest of us all dross. Especially and including Sarah Palin.

Majorie, It would probably benefit you to know those were not my words…but the words of a gentleman making a post in here..not sure what page it is on. My comment was against his comment calling women “idiots’ no matter what political spectrum they choose to support is unacceptable. Not sure of the user’s name…but was a gentleman’s name. Even if I adamently disagree…there’s no need to call women “idiots”…whether you agree with them politically or not.

Terri, I stand corrected. I didn’t/don’t know what the original source is. Doesn’t matter, some of us have gotten used to being called idiots or variations thereof on this site.

Marjorie, I am a moderate conservative. I hate that terminology especially when it comes from the opposite gender. No worries. I was not offended.

That’s so interesting that you brought up Rousseau, No Way-NoHow/TooDumb/WineryLifestyle (and all your other myriad personalities). I am rereading “Reveries of the Solitary Walker” right now.

Agreed, the posts on this site reflect the many diverse opinions we all hold as humans, and I’m grateful to be in the company of so many bright, funny people who know how to present a well thought out opinion! I’m still distressed at the number who are blissfully uninformed, who just want to continue the same old misinformation and defamation of character.

It is hard for some liberal women to understand this choice but as you point out Ms. Nevins it is representative of certain females and it shows that our power is in the vote. Aside from this it also points out that HRC will stand forever as a woman of great courage. As a woman my only hope is that the news coverage or what passes as news coverage begins to play fair. MSNBC and in particular Keith O. and Rachel M are so left leaning I will soon have to lay on my left side to watch. Fox news is becoming more fair and balance and MSNBC more like the old Fox.

I agree to disagree. You got to be kidding! In my opinion Fox preaches division and hate. I refuse to associate “news” with Fox because Fox is not reporting “news”, but instead preach “division and hate”. Fox is anything but fair and balanced. Keith O. and Rachel M. and CNN/Larryking Live are the best commentators in my opinion.

WEll, Ms. Dorothy…you’d better confer with your fellow Dems. They are in agreement, including Hillary…that this political season, like any other….Fox has been more fair and balanced than any other cable or major news network…. NBC and their affiliates are in the toilet…their ratings are there too. Personally, I enjoy Charles Gibson.

Hey Kay :)! Where did you get your facts?! Please site your reference: “your fellow Dems. They are in agreement, including Hillary…that this political season, like any other….Fox has been more fair and balanced than any other cable or major news network…”. Thanks in advance.

Hi Dorothy. It was the interview that she did during the primary with (believe it or not) Bill O’Reilly. I am a Hillary fan. She’s got class! May not agree with all her politics but I’m a big woman supporter. Not sure of the date…but if you can stand the “conservative stench” check out Bill O’Reilly’s website…He may have it on there…just can’t remember the exact date other than when it was in the primary. The discussion was generated by Bill asking her about “sexism” during the primary. You may be able to find it on You Tube.

First of all, there is nothing wrong with being “liberal.” No matter how many times it is used as a pejorative, it is still a good and honorable thing to be. Second, I think it’s interesting that the Republicans can’t find a woman who isn’t being investigated for malfeasance in office to run with John McCain.
