Sheila Nevins: Why Palin Is a Great Choice

Sheila Nevins

WOW ladies take a breather. This is a wonderful choice. It is a clear choice and that’s what America stands for. The issues that Palin represents though reprehensible to me - represent a constituency and a voice. American democracy represents the right to disagree. It also represents majority rule. The cards are on the table - race, abortion, gun control, stem cell research, taxation, godliness - you name it. There’s no fudging here - no middle of the road. rhetoric. Americans will declare their absolute preferences. And a woman will stand for this. Being a woman doesn’t mean agreeing with the WOW dames. Palin may not be in whom we trust, but there is an odd equality in the sheer selection. Women can be as arbitrary and right wing as any man. And for those of us for whom Sarah Palin’s beliefs belie our deepest convictions. So be it. The great truths lie in an honest ballot box. Vote and live in America or flee if you must. Great choice in the divide A civil war without bullets. Three cheers for clarity.

Maurine…such a hasty thing to say with all the teenage pregnancy’s going on these days…We dont know what led up to her daughter getting Pregnant…to say that just b/c her Mother is a working Mother is the reason she got Pregnant, that puts down all working Mother’s including myself…Careful with how you word things when you put down working mothers!

Maurine what a stupid remark! As my grandmother use to say…unless you are clairvoyant you have no idea what your children are doing…I’m sure you were just as sneaky as the rest of us at that age. Sarah Palin is an example of women all over the world…we do good by our children…we teach them our values but they have minds of their own. As with grown ass women…young girl get wooed it’s call human frailty! Unfortunately boys who impregnant us leave their mistakes in the streets and girls bring their’s home. It doesn’t make Sarah a bad mother. Some mothers encourage their daughters to have abortions. When I was growing up girls who got themselves in trouble were shipped off to relatives in a far away state to give birth and the child was reared by an aunt or grandmother (today we call them surrogates). When a young girl and boy get together with thoughts of love and feelings they may experiment with sex. For you to suggest because Sarah is a working mom that she is responsible for her daughter pregnancy, and you call yourself a feminist? Do we blame all working mothers who children become teen drug addicts…murderers…contract STDs? There are million of teen-age pregnancy right here in America. When they mistakes do we uplift them or brand them with scarlet letters!

Lois - I beg to differ with your description of my post as “stupid.” Indeed, I find it ironic that a Vice Presidential candidate who touts her conservatism and support for abstinence should have a pregnant daughter. I don’t question Sarah Palin’s love for her daughter, and of course, as a working mother, she joins others whose children are in the same predicament. My point is that as a woman running for the second highest office in the land she is held to a higher standard than most other working mothers. She is supposed to be a potential leader, invested in supporting policy that will affect our children. She is a proponet of conservative values and critical of providing birth control information in schools. Very well, then she has an obligation to her children, male and female, to educate them about birth control at home. Apparently, she didn’t do her job.

Weren’t you the same person who readily believed the story that Palin’s daughter was the actual mother of her Down Syndrome baby? Where’s your rebuttal? No, didn’t expect one—just more spin. Your really are sickening.

Pardon me but maybe you need to do some research into what a neopentecostal dominionist is. That is exactly what she is and it is a Native American church in Alaska—you could look it up before you blast anyone here.

Help me know more of the research you have done into this… Or are you simply relying on Twitter?

Show me an article where Sarah Palin endorses “Joel’s Army” and I’ll defer to you and Frank - but right now I could claim to be a Nazi and endorse Obama - would you blame him? In fact, every candidate, in every election faces being smeared because someone who supports them is a nutcase. Such attacks reek of desperation, imho.
