Sheila Nevins: Why Palin Is a Great Choice

Sheila Nevins

WOW ladies take a breather. This is a wonderful choice. It is a clear choice and that’s what America stands for. The issues that Palin represents though reprehensible to me - represent a constituency and a voice. American democracy represents the right to disagree. It also represents majority rule. The cards are on the table - race, abortion, gun control, stem cell research, taxation, godliness - you name it. There’s no fudging here - no middle of the road. rhetoric. Americans will declare their absolute preferences. And a woman will stand for this. Being a woman doesn’t mean agreeing with the WOW dames. Palin may not be in whom we trust, but there is an odd equality in the sheer selection. Women can be as arbitrary and right wing as any man. And for those of us for whom Sarah Palin’s beliefs belie our deepest convictions. So be it. The great truths lie in an honest ballot box. Vote and live in America or flee if you must. Great choice in the divide A civil war without bullets. Three cheers for clarity.

Your reply shows me that you have not done the research that you suggest others should do. If you had you would recognize the reference to “Joel’s Army.” And if you had been working for the Obama campaign and had promoted this nonsense, your candidate says you would have been fired!

John McCain’s running mate Sarah Palin said Monday that her 17-year-old unmarried daughter is five months pregnant, an announcement aimed at rebutting Internet rumors that Palin’s youngest son, born in April, was actually her daughter’s. A statement released by the campaign said that Bristol Palin will keep her baby and marry the child’s father. Bristol Palin is five months pregnant, and the baby is due in late December.

It is my humble opinion that Ms. Palin will withdraw from this race in less than two weeks. Her “reason” will be that she must “focus on her family”. McCain will then choose another running mate, hoping he can re-take any ground he may have lost. Just my opinion.

I had the same thought this morning as well, JB. And it makes me wonder, if it comes to pass, what that says about McCain’s judgement.

I hope not. It better be another woman then!

JB, Tonight on Charlie Rose, Mark Halpeirn intimated that there is stuff going to come out in the next few days because she was not fully vetted, and the press are doing their homework carefully.

Oh, and the press did their “homework” on Obama??? Yea, he was fully “vetted”. The problem is that if Palin had an ingrown toenail it would be more scandalous than whether or not Obama snorted cocaine. She is not the Pres candidate, she is the VP candidate, the hypocricy is incredible!! Nobody cares about Ayers, Flager, Wright—only the left could be this obtuse. My God, get over it already.

I don’t choose to get over it already. As far as “vetting” Obama, we’ve had 4 years to watch him, read him and know him. At least, he knows what happens in Senate chambers. And, he’s left a paper trail all the way back to Harvard. And, he’s been known to hang out with shady characters. So, what else is new? And, yes, I am concerned that someone who has been chosen to run for the second highest office in the land has to ask what the job is and doesn’t even know that the VP is also President protem of the Senate. This has nothing to do with left or right being obtuse, whatever that means. Ever heard of Abramoff?

Eleanor—He was thoroughly vetted as Diana says; his life if fully documented in public life from the U of Chicago though the Illinois state legislature, up to the US senate—I’d call that fully vetted.—Palin while only going for VP was vetted in 1 day—not much time—and a lot is coming out on her : how about the Trans Alaska-Canada gas-pipeline somehow she can up with 500,000,000 bucks as “seed” money for that—where’d that come from? The State budget”—well Alaska is rich thanks to big oil has been for decades now—but half a billion a big chunk of change— Ok so he snorted cocaine—tell me about George Bush and alcohol and cocaine. A lot of used there and that’s well documented and he’s admitted it—as Bill Clinton hell we all now he smoked dope —so did I—-still do for that matter. Palin belonged to the AIP a separatist church? party? Ok so she quit and went the the Assembly of god in 96. Still a separatist movement to secede from the Union—only South Carolina has done that more and they even threatened during the Civil War to separate from the Confederacy becasue they wanted the importation of slaves to begin again. And how about her part in initiating “troopergate”? and he husband’s part in that when he wasn’t even an elected official of Alaska? There are legitimate questions are about this woman not because she’s a woman but because she’s a politician from an oil-bought state and things have ha[happened under governorship. If the republican party had vetted her properly these problems wouldn’t be out there in the news as much. You know that Eleanor.Any Politician is going to run into questions. Now she is=—Hell I’ve still got questions about McCain and his sexist remarks, actions and attitude toward women and his wife.

Eleanor, I’m amazed that liberals are so interested and offended by John McCain’s pick for VP. John McCain is running on the Republican ticket…why do they care? They behaving as if they’re personally offended and shouldn’t be……unless they’re worried that he will be the next President? I really could have cared less who Obama picked. My only opinion was that if he wanted to run away with the election he should have picked Hillary and didn’t…. You really have to question where all this hostility and “concern” for a Republican pick is coming from……

You should have a cooler name…Like “Sigmund” or something really clever! :) I find your world intriguing. Do you remember studying the Theories of truth? I so enjoy my grad degree psych classes. The theories of truth are so true and so very interesting. Would I be remiss to say that by your statement you are more of a “Coherence Theorist” of truth? I, personally am more between the “Constructivist Theory and Pragmatic Theory” of truth. Gotta LOVE that John Dewey!

Marjorie and Star, Since you were both supporters of Senator Clinton, I’d really like to know which of this Palin’s positions on issues you think compare with Hillary’s.

Yes Sheila… three cheers for clarity. the battle lines have been drawn and they are clear. By the way. I just got done reading John McCains book about the heroes that affected him and his political career. I like to be educated before I make a choice. I will read Obama’s books next. I will pay attention to the issues. But I set that book of McCains down last night and thought “I think I know who he is now and I do not think I can vote for him”. And the Palin thing did just look so “desperate and out of touch” on his part. But it makes sense when you read his book. The guy has continually allowed his ambition to get in his own way over the years.

Kelly, Those of us who have a dedicated Navy background (5 generations in my family) have always known that while McCain certainly served his country well, he was never a leader or leader material. This is the reason he was passed over for promotion. I think that when you examine the personalities of the two canidates that you will find that there are significant differences between the two. One can only judge on the past experiences of them, however I could not bring myself to vote for someone who divorced they wife who stood by him for 5yrs while he was a POW and he asked for a divorce when she became disabled, told his current wife he was single when he was not and applied for a marriage license prior to his divorce being finale. It just doesnt speak well of his character.
