Kellogg Announces Special K Recall, Others in Response to Salmonella Scare (List)

Nothing’s appetizing anymore! It seems the salmonella outbreak linked to the tainted peanut butter has now spread to Special K bars and Keebler Cookies.
Kellogg Co. announced Monday it was recalling the following as a result of the national salmonella outbreak linked to the Georgia peanut butter facility:
Keebler Soft Batch Homestyle Chocolate Chunk Cookies and Oatmeal Raisin Cookies, 2.5-ounce size only, with a “"Best If Used Before" date prior to June 30, 2009.
UPC codes: 3010032708, 3010037899.
Special K Protein Meal Bar Honey Almond variety only, 6-count and 8-count packages, with a "Best If Used Before" date prior to February 1, 2010.
UPC codes: 3800039778, 3800039935, 3800039931.
No other Special K products are part of this recall, the Food and Drug Administration reports. Fortunately, no illnesses have been reported yet in connection with the products. Although these treats do not contain any peanut ingredients from Peanut Corporation of America — the company at the center of the investigation — the cookies and bars are on the same line of products that were made for other companies’ potentially tainted Peanut Corp. ingredients.
Peanut Corp. released a statement on Saturday expressing their sincere apologies to the victims. "We at Peanut Corporation of America express our deepest and most sincere empathy for those sickened in the salmonella outbreak and their families."
Kellogg’s has recalled a series of products in connection with the salmonella outbreaks. Two weeks ago Kellogg’s Austin and Keebler Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers and select snack-size packs of Famous Amos Peanut Butter Cookies and Keebler Soft Batch were recalled.
According to the Associated Press, at least 529 people have been sickened as a result of the current outbreak, and at least eight may have died as a result. More than 430 products have been recalled.
