Study: Overweight Women Have More Sex

Here’s one reason to rejoice if you’re packing a few more pounds than you’d like: Overweight woman have more sex.

A new study released Thursday shows that overweight and obese women have more sex than skinny, waif-like ones, reports LiveScience. In fact, 92 percent of overweight women reported having a history of sexual intercourse with a man, as opposed to 87 percent of women with a normal body mass index.

The research is based on data on more than 7,000 women collected in the 2002 National Survey of Family Growth.

"Our analysis demonstrated that obese and overweight women do not differ significantly in some of the objective measures of sexual behavior compared to women of normal weight," said Bliss Kaneshiro, an assistant professor at the School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii. "This study indicates that all women deserve diligence in counseling on unintended pregnancy and STD prevention, regardless of body mass index."

There is other research, however, that shows that obesity does affect sex drive.

For example, WebMD highlights a recent study from researchers at Duke University that show that up to 30 percent of obese people — men and women — seeking help controlling their weight indicate problems with sex drive, desire, performance or all three. Often, the latest research shows, these problems can be traced to physical conditions that co-exist with obesity.

Experts advise women who are feeling lethargic in their lingerie to change their diet and exercise and to try some more erotic methods of stimulation — like reading trashy romance novels for 20 minutes, three times a week.

"There is nothing sexy about housework or PTA meetings or grocery shopping. If that’s taking up all your thoughts, there is no room to think about sex, no matter what your shape or size," Susan Kellogg, director of sexual medicine at the Pelvic and Sexual Health Institute of Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia, tells WebMD. "Weight becomes less of an issue when a woman simply feels better and feels sexy."

If they were really getting a lot, wouldn’t it be enough exercise to cause weight loss?

A healthy appetite for food = a healthy appetite for sex. All guys know that if they date a woman who eats like a bird, she won’t be any good in bed.

Actually the rest of the story is because the fat cells are also a source of hormones….suprise, suprise. We feel sexy because of part what’s going on in the brain and the mixture of chemicals running around in our bodies. Never felt sexier in my life than when I was pregnant with my son. Male hormones perhaps? Their are sexual addicts and telling them to stop is like telling a diabetic to keep their blood sugar regular without the insulin. My grief with all of this is it sounds simple but is not. Science can’t really put a needle in your brain and draw out the substances that really dictate who you are in a psychological aspect. Why can’t more research and study be given in that area of science. A lot of illnesses could actual be healed by the patient themself if they had the knowledge and tools to use for the healing process but we just haven’t gotten far enough along in medicine yet for that. Or the big pharmacy companies don’t want us to get that far along???

Well I dont know how true this is b/c I have been on both sides of the weight spectrum…In my 20’s I was in great shape, 6 pack abs and weighed about 130, then in my 30’s stopped working out and gained some pounds but I have never been without a sexual partner…Now I am married so that is great b/c I get sex anytime I want but I dont consider myself sexier now w/ the extra weight on but my husband loves me and he thinks I am sexy which to me is all that matters.

I love yall. I so enjoy being a part of this site. At the end of my work day you make me smile even if I don’t want to and in the am when I really try to resist checking in so I won’t miss my bus to work ——-my morning starts upbeat although sometimes with a bit of controversy/tension. But I still enjoy the wowowow Ladies and Gents—all of you. Have a great weekend!
