I wish I had HBO. I won’t be able to see this. Our local paper today(8-17-08) featured this broadcast on its front page. Helen Thomas is a native of Winchester, Ky…about 25 miles from here. She is one of the last bastions of objective and reliable journalism that I can think of.

I’m looking forward with great anticipation to Helen Thomas’ interview; I’ll bet we’ll hear a few revelations. Helen Thomas knows DC inside and out and has been one of its finest journalists for decades. I found the clip and her remarks about Pres. Reagan to be especially fascinating. It was general knowledge among some of those who worked in Sacramento during his governorship that he was, even then, having lapses of memory. When he went on to become President the fact that he took his marching orders from his advisors is not at all surprising.

When the women of history are named, Helen Thomas will be at the top of the list. Her outspoken and courageous stands have given us all reason to step back and think. What a gal!!

helen…you are one of the greats…i have watched you since i was cognizant enough to realize you were the sharpest, most incisive reporter i had ever seen…love the way you go for the throat..love the way you make george squirm by having to come face to face with himself…dont love the way he negated you to the bottom of the pile because of it…it is an even draw between you and liz as to who i love best…go, girl!!!

I just finished watching “Thank You, Mr. President” on HBO, and am filled with the same level of sadness I felt when Walter Cronkite left his anchor position. When we need her most, I fear we’ll never see another like her. I hope our daughters and nieces dare to go into journalism, and restore the stature of the profession to the standard to which Ms. Thomas dared to elevate it throughout her outstanding career. May we always ask the difficult questions, and stand firm until we are answered.

Kitty, I just watched the program, too, and I felt a kind of despair. Helen Thomas made the point several times that the press was not meeting its own standards and was no longer serving the public as it should. Asking the President, over and over, all the tough questions whose answers we’re entitiled to hear is what she did so well. I join you in hoping that there are some courageous young journalists-in-training who will become our next generation of Helen Thomas’ s. My only criticism of the program was that it was far too brief. I know that Ms. Thomas has much more to say.

Hi Maurine, Ditto. Could have watched that for another hour. What a role model! I’d give ANYTHING for her to moderate a debate between the Presidential candidates.
