The Conversion of Liz Smith

Liz Smith

I hate to tell this one; it was recent. I was in the company of Candice Bergen and her estimable husband Marshall Rose. (I knew both these worthy lovers back in their earlier days when they were married to other spouses.) There was a horse involved. Candice was standing holding the horse’s reins. I was attempting to mount the horse – or perhaps vice versa. Candice was extremely amused and laughing like hell. Suddenly, Marshall was running toward us, holding a giant syringe with a wicked needle on the end, and he was shouting, “Liz, Liz, this will make you Jewish!” I felt enormously frightened and embarrassed and I am even more embarrassed relating this absurd dream. Obviously, I have a hidden “thing” for Mr. Rose, Ms. Bergen and also, I guess, their horse. Actually I wouldn’t mind becoming Jewish but I am afraid of needles.

Liz Thank you for your brave and refreshing honesty. I don’t know if I could have done it.

Count your blessings that at least it didn’t involve Shirley Schmidt’s pet, Bumpy, the cow.
