Tim Geithner may be the latest addition to President-elect Barack Obama’s administration. MSNBC reports this afternoon that 47-year-old Geithner, head of New York’s Federal Reserve Bank, will be named Monday as our nation’s next Treasury Secretary:

The President-elect is preparing to roll out his economic team on Monday — and will personally announce the team and answer questions — part of an effort to reassure markets.

Barring last-minute changes, the nominee for Treasury Secretary will be [Geithner] — a career Treasury official under both Bob Rubin and Larry Summers — who actually had worked at the Treasury in three administrations under five Secretaries — going back to 1988.

Geithner has been a key player in the current economic crisis — helping Treasury Seceretary Hank Paulson — and his team manage the Wall Street bailout.

This unconfirmed announcement makes Geithner the fourth member of the president-elect’s Cabinet. Hillary Clinton is meant to be the Secretary of State, while Janet Napolitano will reportedly become the next secretary of Homeland Security, and Eric Holder will be our next attorney general, according to recent reports.

It’s not Change. It’s a Cronyism franchise. Eric Holder, Cronyism Part I Tom Daschle (gag-o-rama), Cronyism Part II Tim Geithner, Cronyism Part III

At least they are some of the most qualified and respected people in the country, Alias. Even David Brooks is happy in his column today.

Diana, I have been listening to NPR and watching PBS and have heard nothing but positives about this choice. It seems if you want to hear opinions which are determined to be negative, just come to wowOwow. I read the David Brooks piece too. He is very impressed with the choices Obama is making. Also, Brooks, like the vast majority of us, understands that “change” doesn’t mean appointing a bunch of unknowns and amateurs.

who cares what Brooks thinks? huh?

I don’t expect you to care because you are more determined to go negative than to face the fact that Obama is doing an excellent job of surrounding himself with the best minds available. I’ll bet you didn’t even read the David Brooks commentary, because you would be afraid it would make sense and break your negativity bubble.

There is no hypocrisy, Obama said he would change things and one of the first things he is changing is that he is putting the best and brightest into positions instead of cronies and friends.

Your 24/7 Obama worship service is unrealistic. He is not infallible, and already has proven so. He pushed the Bailout through prematurely by lobbying the black caucus for votes to get it passed, without oversight. I said at the time - in fact, I posted this on WOW - that the Bailout was merely a way for the honchos and Bush’s cronies to flush out every last penny before Bush left office. I mean, it was such a no-brainer. And voila, reports are now in that the money went to dividends for stockholders and into CEO salaries and bonuses. Not back into mortgage rescue and credit movement where it was intended. I don’t understand why the media and the Congress is all surprised and aghast. I shake my head. Are they that dense? Come on guys. All I’ll say is, it’s a darned good thing that Obama is surrounding himself with the Clintonite bright minds. He needs them. Because he is a theory man, not a practical one.

Your 24/7 Obama worship service is unrealistic. “…. I won’t read past your first sentance because it shows a complete lack of understanding of me and probably the majority of Obama supporters. WORSHIP is a word used to put down Obama supporters as though we are not the intelligent, educated, informed people most of us are and that we would actually WORSHIP any politician or think they were magicians. That is the sort of nonsense the GOP put out there as smear against Obama and his supporters and I will not even read a post that suggests that I would be that stupid.

DeBurca I believe that you are very intelligent as well as most of the other Obama supporters, it is just that you guys never question anything that he says or does. That is why some of us might think it is worship. Then you won’t read what someone has to say about Obama if you think it is negative? It kind of looks like worship. Obama is fallible, just like the rest of us, and thank God he is. He will mistakes, although he is president, congress and the courts hold more power. He can put forth a cabinet and an agenda, but if the congressional dems and repubs want to fight it, then he has to give in and compromise, as he is doing about the tax hikes for the upper 5%. They are now thinking just leave the Bush tax cuts in place until they expire and then revamp the program. I never heard you question him on anything. He questions, and I am sure he questions himself. It does not mean that you don’t want him to be successful or that you are right winged. It is the right thing to do. I want PE Obama to be successful. If he is successful, hopefully our country will be successful. Bush was torn apart from the moment he got in because of Florida and the Supreme Court. I was skeptical of both candidates for a long time. The world is a tough place. Did you see 60 Minutes the burglary in So Africa of the nuclear plant? Then I saw on the news that Hugo Chaves and the Russians have finished building a nuclear plant in Venezuela. He is going to have his hands full. God be with him.
