Tina Fey Voted Entertainer of the Year, Thanks Her Lucky Stars for Sarah Palin

Tina Fey owes John McCain a big kiss.

Sarah Palin, the widely unknown governor of Alaska who shot to fame when McCain chose her as his Republican running mate, was undoubtedly the best thing to happen to Tina Fey. The 38-year-old producer and actress became one of the most popular women on television when she would appear on the sketch comedy show "Saturday Night Live" as the conservative Palin. Fey’s impersonation of Palin was spot on — with her wink, accent (dropping the letter "g" at the end of words), her dodging of reporters’ questions, her repeated use of the word "maverick" and her beauty-pageant poses.

Her impersonations weren’t just funny, according to the Associated Press, they served a cultural impact. For it, Fey has been voted AP’s Entertainer of the Year, an annual honor chosen by newspaper editors and broadcast producers across the country.

walter, you skipped the ellipsis that would warn of editing of the quotation.

As Sandbee pointed out, for me the scariest part of Tina’s impersonation of Palin was that fact she would use her actual words! No one listening or watching Tina’s skits on SNL can deny they were funny and scary at the same time. And yet there was this constant drum beat of “yeah but, she’s not running for President so it shouldn’t matter” Well if McCain was a lot younger (baring a fluke assassin attempt of some sort) it wouldn’t have mattered. But SHE could have been our president. A winking, “ya betcha”, divisive, former beauty queen representing us on a global stage. Ugh….it give me chills just thinking about it…..

Jimmie boy and Belinda, the point is that if you are intellectually dishonest you can take actual words of anyone and just adjust them into a caricature. I did the best I could with the few words Sandbox used. “our president give me chills just thinking….” are Belinda’s actual words. Anyone dumb enough not to recognize a caricature should strive for the wisdom to keep their ignorance secret.

Wow, what is going on with the bloggers on this site? For you to equate the comedy skit of Tina Fey of SNL with that of Amos and Andy is unimaginable. It’s truly shocking. I would strongly suggest Walter that you look at some of the old tapes again of Amos and Andy, then return to this site and rephrase your opinion on this issue. Amos and Andy? Wow….I’m stunned.

Do you think that Tina will say, in her acceptance speech, “I would like to thank Sarah Palin for making this award happen for me”? After all Sarah did make her famous.

Palin’s own popularity in Alaska has fallen, and that is of her own doing since returning to Alaska and not doing the job she was elected to do—and instead doing media tours to promote herself. Tina deserves that award. Palin proved she could not handle an interview as early as a year ago when she appeared on Charlie Rose. Instead of answering the question, she just talked about energy and said the same thing over and over again. Napolitano, who was also on that panel, other answered every question with specific examples of what her administration was doing for her state.

Long after Tina is dust, gas from the Palin gas line will be warming us. Popularity of anyone will wane when the MSM makes a full court press against them. I am familiar not just with the tv Amos & Andy, but the radio show before. I was an active member of the NAACP for years, refused a job offer from Del Monte Cannery when they told me I was favored because I was white, gave Charlie Rangel my place in a warmup tent at Kunu Ri because just being cold at -30 is misery, but being cold and wet ,as were Charlie and his fellow troops from the 503rd FA Bn, is fatal. I was financial backer to a friend who became the first and still most successful Black Sheet Metal contractor in the Bay area. I am also probably Dr. Rice’s only backer left in liberal Palo Alto, because when she was at Stanford she accomplished stuff most folk didn’t even try. I am now actively involved in a campaign to trade governors with Alaska.

You can list all the Black organizations and Black people you know and support until you are blue in the face. But any White American that would equate Amos n’ Andy which humor was based on grossly offensive depictions of Blacks speaking in broken English “Yassum sur…I’s justum be sayin….I‘s doh no nuttin‘ boss sur…”; with Tina Fey’s reciting VERBATIM statements made by Sarah Pain in interviews (which resulted in laughs), is not as enlightened a White man as he is attempting to portray himself as. I can’t speak for other bloggers on this site, but I now have all I need to know about you.

I find sexism to be just as objectionable as racism, since both are an attempt to advance oneself at the detriment of others. Women who accept criteria for Palin they never apply to male candidates are the equivalent of Step-n-fetchit. If you see in my comment any approval of the Amos n Andy depiction then you have truly become an Uncle Tom feminist. Enjoy the chains you help forge. And my intention was not to say “Some of my best friends are… but to indicate I follow conviction with action.

Walter to give you a little background on Belinda…in a post a couple of months ago she used words such as “blacks will go into white neighborhoods and burn cars and houses if Obama does not win” YET she has the nerve to call anyone else racist…she then came back and said that she was quoting someone else YET never gave names to who she was quoting…she then had the nerve to call me a racist when I said that I was afraid that might happen…she put my husband and myself down below the ground YET she could say what she did in her post and never one harsh word was ever said back to her…people on this post backed her 200%…this is the kind of woman Belinda is…she can say what she wants YET if someone who she thinks is white b/c of a picture can’t say anything negative about blacks regardless of our past with them or not…

Merrell…if you go back to her first post she did not mention anything about it being rumors…lets not drag this up again b/c you see it as you see it and I remember it all very well b/c I was the one right in the middle of it. I just think its funny how certain women on this post can say anything and then when they get called on it, they make excuses and say “oh i forgot to add that i was quoting someone else”…YET when others voice their opinions we are racist just b/c some may not have the same views as others. We as humans are all racist to some point in our lives. You can’t say that you have never clinched your purse tighter when certain teenager or weird looking people have walked by you. Or been in a certain neighborhood and made sure your car doors were locked or just avoided that area. All of these are racism…and we have all done it and if you say you havent then your lying to us and yourself. If you read thru all the comments I do believe I apologized for saying that Obama was selfish for running…but you forgot to add those comments in here… Merrell…Hope you and your family have a safe and wonderful Holiday

Tee Zee, Indeed! What has come of this site? It was fun and playful, then… oh yes, the bigots got started and it went to hell… I am just about fed up with all the sh*t slinging… bigotry and hatred do not for good relations make.

Tina Fey has done an absolutely amazing job at characterizing Palin, and helped move a nation in a new direction, as well. Good going Ms Fey! Congratulations to you, as well.
