Tom Cruise's 'Arrogant' Confession on 'Today' Show (Video)

By The Staff at wowOwow.com

Tom Cruise apologized for acting "arrogant" the last time he appeared on the "Today" show with Matt Lauer.

Cruise was on the program this morning to promote his upcoming movie and addressed the way he criticized Brooke Shields for taking anti-depressants to cope with post-partum depression.

"That came across arrogant," he said to Lauer. "I could have handled that better."

His reunion with Lauer comes ten days before the release of "Valkyrie," in which Cruise stars as a would-be assassin of Adolf Hitler. Cruise talks to Lauer about the movie. He also speaks about his family life with wife Katie Holmes … Plus, see why you shouldn’t ask Cruise about Scientology.

Tom’s words are not an apology. He says he reviewed the footage and realized that he came off as arrogant and made excuses for his state of mind at that time. To me it seems that he realized that that incident regarding his opinion (who cares) on Brooke’s use of drugs with depression may now impact his movie sales. It would have felt real if he had done it many years ago. At least he realizes now that he is just an entertainer.

I A SICK OF ALL THE ATTENTION THAT IS GIVEN TO CRUISE. HE CLEARLY HAS SOME FORM OF MENTAL DISORDER. I FEEL SORRY FOR HIS WIFE. I ALMOST NEVER SEE HER SMILE . I ALSO NEVER SEE HER WITH HIS OLDER CHILDREN. I THINK SHE WAS NOT AWARE OF WHAT LIFE WOULD REALLY BE LIKE WITH THIS MAN. IF YOU QUIT PAYING ATTENTION TO HIM HE WILL GO AWAY. THEN MAYBE KATIE WILL ESCAPE!

Well, Frank, I can say that my peach geraniums, the last flowers in the garden, are drooping badly. -1 in BC today. In Winnipeg (our mid-West) its -47 with windchill. And the celcius scale actually matches out the farenheit scale at -40!!!!! So imagine that! My sorrel and arugula which survived all seasons since 2006 has become freeze-dried. Not REALLY complaining other than no one here knows how to drive in even a wisp of snow. Paris was belle belle. My eyes were stinging from witnessing such beauty on a daily basis. But I was unlucky in love with the man there! Back to single for me.

What a truly beautiful flower :-) You take care Amelie. We’ll talk later :-)

I am always wary of people who can’t look you directly in the eye when they speak to you. From a purely body language standpoint that speaks volumes. Tom’s inability to focus on Matt is annoying. He looks in and around his presence, and then for good measure will look him in the eye for a few seconds. Very Telling. But beyond that, everything he had to say is just a load of crap. However he definitely is becoming more handsome as he ages…..

As a shy person, I have always had a very hard time looking people directly in the eye during a conversation, it takes a lot of effort. It would not be unusual for an actor to be a shy person underneath the persona, which may explain his difficulty.

I think he believes what he said about anti-depressants, which is fine, its his right to those views, however, he seems to have realized that speaking about it on the show was out of line and he understands why people were upset about it. A person can only apologize about their behavior, not their beliefs if those are truly their beliefs. As far as him not “focussing on Matt”, I wouldn’t be surprised if Cruise has ADHD to some extent, because he always seems like he is having a hard time sitting still. I tend to cut the guy some slack because I think it s probably VERY easy to embarrass yourself, or get yourself in trouble, when you are a person who is passionate and opinionated and in a position of being publicly interviewed over and over.

You know what DeBúrca, you may have hit the nail right on the head. He is clearly “gun shy” about what he says in an interview with Matt for good reason. As Matt pointed out (accurately) after his “You’re glib Matt…You’re glib” situation, it did affect how his fans viewed him which affected his box office numbers. But beyond that, Scientology (from what I have heard) especially when it is relatively new to you, becomes an obsession. You immerse yourself into every little thing about its teachings. And for most of Americans Scientology is confusing, odd and bizarre. To this day no one can define it as a religion, cult or group that believes in some cosmic spiritual following? So you are dead on when you say a person can only apologize about their behavior and not their beliefs. And Tom knows his beliefs are controversial and if discussed among those who don’t believe as he does, takes him down an avenue he may not want to venture down. Great insight on your part as usual. P.S. You’re shy? I wouldn’t have guessed that from your posts……:-)

I didn’t ever read this. Just than person’s name gives me dyspepsia (can’t even say “man”). He’s not through his life yet. He’ll grow up, I hope. In the interim, can we begin to write to sponsors (or join me in doing so) to get these movie stars off our TV sets advertising their paid work? I’m so sick of it. There are far more interesting, indeed critical topics, and people in the world that the networks could be hosting. The View, for example, is full of it, and so is every other “live” show. And all the shows host and hostesses somehow know every one they interview personally - hugs, kisses, innuendos about intimate relationships with them (Whoopie for example). How in blazes someone like Rachel Ray knows every star she meets is beyond me (talk about low self-esteem among women!). Such social incest gives me pause to wonder …

Hi Carol; I’ve often thought the same. Hugs and kisses, kisses and hugs; overwhelming instant rapport. Baloney! I love your term: “social incest”… perfect.
