Josie, I am talking about the experienced and respected news journalists, namely, Brokaw, Walters, Rose, Moyers; you know what I mean, an objective, non-confrontational reporter who knows how to interview in an unbiased way. You could see on The View that Barbara Walters was chomping at the bit for a one-on-one with McCain. She has interviewed some of the roughest leaders in the world during her long career, and does not suffer fools gladly.

Diana T, I want to see Ms. Palin sit down at Charlie Rose’s table. And yes, Barbara was chomping at the bit.

She was at his table with the Gov. of Arizona during a woman governor’s conference about a year ago. You can see that on charlierose.com in a green room re-run. I hope she will go with him one-to-one so we could see her, but I would wager that won’t happen. Charlie has a way of digging too deep.

Diana, The McCain’s were on the View Friday……..Barbara interviewed McCain and Cindy. Mc Cain said that Palin would come on the show…………..I hope Barbara is the tough interviewer she can be not the wishy washy she is sometimes on her show.

Dona, I saw some clips of the interview, and I really think if Barbara had been able to keep pushing McCain on the lipstick remark, when she reminded him that he had said the same thing, I believe he would have lost his temper with her. Wouldn’t that make for interesting TV viewing? As seen on the NY Times a minute ago: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/14/us/politics/14palin.html?hp

I believe the Republican Party is principally driven by the interests of the oil/gas industry and the fundamentalist Christians. The GOP platform is a homage to the goals of both.

I caught that forum at Columbia, too. McCain came off as very grandfatherly and benign without his new sidekick. Meanwhile, she was having struggles of her own in her interview with Charlie. She’s good at the podium with a written speech, but doesn’t think very well on her feet. I loved Obama’s comment about making government cool again. A new way to think about government, instead of bashing it like the Republicans like to do. The righties love their flag, but they certainly have a disregard for the government it represents.

Susan: “Bush Doctrine.” Gov. Palin was surprised because the Bush Doctrine, as an entity, does not exist… that is there are three or four aspects to the ‘Doctrine.’ Shame on Gibson.

I have to agree with you here, Marjorie. Don’t understand why he would ask that. She should have come back with something like, “Which one?”

phyllis: She should have come back with something like, “Which one?” Actually, I think she did — or words to the same effect. She looked a bit miffed at the time, also. Gibson stumbled and asked the question again. I’m not sure he knew the answer, either.

No, she said “In what respect?”

And she should know enough about the Bush doctrine to ask a specific question if she didn’t understand what Charlie Gibson was asking of her.
