'Trouble' in Paradise? Leona Helmsley's Dog Gets Her Rations Cut

© AP

Trouble is still in paradise, but the late Leona Helmsley’s beloved canine must say good-bye to a chunk of her hefty inheritance.

A Manhattan judge severely reduced the $12 million bequest that the notorious "Queen of Mean" left to her dog Trouble, according to the New York Post. Helmsley died last August at the age of 87.

The nine-year-old pooch will now have to get by on a piddling $2 million, losing $10 million of her original inheritance to charity.

But the moneyed Maltese’s new guardian told the paper that the pooch will survive. Believe it or not.

She left a $4 billion estate, $35B to charity and outright gifts to family and driver. Her only son died before her and two of her grandchildren were left sums on the condition that they visit their father’s grave every year, two were cut out completely due to ‘reasons they know.’ I’m not a fan of the lady but it’s important to be fair. If it were me I’d leave the other two grandchildren something too with a stipulation they fulfill whatever it was that bothered her that seemed to be family ill will. Require them to write a positive tribute, sign a statement to never speak about the person again, and put the money in a trust fund. http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/08/29/leona-helmsleys-unusual-las…

it was Helmsley’s money and her decision about where it should go. She gave enormously to charity and so in the end, The Queen of Mean could actually have been a hell of a lot meaner. Besides, who are we to pass judgement on someone’s bequests? What I want to know is: Who represented Trouble in court?

Dear Trouble, I am a nice lady and now that I am retired, I can spend my days taking you out and playing with you. I can walk you all around the neighborhood and bring you to your favorite dog spots. I will gladly pick up your poop and never complain. I will make sure you get all the best bones and toys. With me, you will live a dog’s life.

What a good idea. Wish I’d thought of it first, lol.
