Hi Serena, my friend! In talking with my hubby over the last couple of weeks about Jenny’s plight, he been somewhat puzzled as to why I care so much about a creature that I’ve only seen once in my life. I can recall a specific afternoon, 28 years ago, shortly after he and I had moved in together. He’d come home early that day and presented me with a gift. The gift was a large, framed photograph of a herd of elephants. He told me that, shortly after we had first met, he recalled a conversation where I had mentioned how much I loved elephants. That I had expressed my appreciation for their sense of family, how people in general, could learn a great deal about unconditional love from these magnificent creatures. I think I shall remind him of that photograph during our next conversation about Jenny, as this 28 year old photograph still hangs in our home!

Linda, Instead of reminding your husband, show him the picture and ask if he remembers why he gave that to you. Men, unlike elephants, tend to forget. I emailed both the mayor and city council asking them to have a heart as big as the state of Texas for Jenny’s sake. Why they are not doing the right thing is still puzzling. I hope this is not turning into some kind of turf war on the zoo’s part.

I was just in The Garden and asked you about your thoughts on last night’s speech. If there is anything else I can do to help Jenny, let me know. I take it the local newspapers and newscasts are not concerned with this issue. Golly, the mayor could have used this issue to his advantage.

Carol, No kidding! You would think that he might be taking into consideration staying in office! I mentioned this to him—nicely—in one of my e-mails. He probably didn’t read it.

In my humble opinion, such as it is ………….. is that the mayor may feel he is “insulated, protected” under the guise of the city council. Imagine that, a politician thinking of his own future!

Hi Linda. That’s a great story. Thanks for sharing it. Personally, I love Jenny because I love all creatures great and small, and I cannot stand to see one suffer. Also, Jenny kind of reminds me of myself years ago—lonely, depressed, and “caged.” I still suffer from the depression occassionally. It’s not a good place for anyone—human or beast—to be.
