Vanity Fair Magazine Investigating A Possible McCain '64 Fatal Car Crash

Huffington Post reports on the race by Vanity Fair and the National Security News Service to uncover a possible McCain Car Accident
By The Staff of wowOwow

According to The Huffington Post, for the past two months, a major American magazine and an allied news service have been engaged in a legal battle with the United States Navy over records that they believe show that John McCain once was involved in an automobile accident that injured or, perhaps, killed another individual.

Vanity Fair magazine and the National Security News Service claim to have knowledge "developed from first-hand sources" of a car crash that involved then-Lt. McCain at the main gate of a Virginia naval base in 1964, according to legal filings. The incident has been largely, if not entirely, kept from the public. And in documents suing the Navy to release pertinent information, lawyers for the NS News Service allege that a cover-up may be at play.

UNCLE! I am voting for Obama because I believe in the policies he professes - I am not voting for McCain because I don’t believe in the policies he professes - period, done - these are the things that should be the major influence to a voting decision does your past matter? sure, if you are a convicted felon, I might want to know that - if you drank too much in college, uh, no, I don’t care. in the above case, isn’t there a statute of limitations here? if it’s true what they are alleging, it’s wrong, of course, but a week before the election, this is a little transparent - if you are still undecided by now, I’m not sure what to say… does your demeanor matter, why, yes it does, if you are representing me to other nation’s leaders, in front of the UN, or one on one, I want to know you can handle yourself - again, for me, Obama wins this one does being a consensus-builder and facilitator matter - you betcha’ and community organizing wins that hands down - however, McCain could have easily made his case for this but chose the maverick route instead and Palin definitely could have made this case as a former mayor (I work in local government so I do know) but she too chose the maverick route - mavericks don’t bring people together, they just pi$$ people off so enough on who did what in their rabid youth, what have you done for me lately as the sassy Janet Jackson from the 80’s used to sing!

Chips, I was not aware of the incident, either. Isn’t it something people should know, if there is a fact of wrongdoing. If none, then it should be left ‘under the carpet’ to wit it was swept, (apparently). So, according to your concept of “Maverick” I am one too… hmm? Do I piss people off? Probably, most won’t say… so, I can’t always know. Just a thought…

there is a time to buck the system and a time to play by the rules - if someone comes out saying we’re mavericks (assuming on everything) then how can they expect to get their policies through Congress if they are always bucking the system and not trying to work things out? yes, going up against corruption and wrong-doing is wonderful but is that being a maverick, no, that’s doing your job (which many don’t do) but don’t label that a maverick - I guess I’m just tired of the misuse of the word “maverick” - wikipedia the word, it’s not something necessarily to be proud of… and I think if he committed a crime, absolutely something needs to be done, but it’s just a little odd this is coming out a week before the election - why wasn’t this brought out a long time ago? I’m no fan of McCain but this isn’t why I’m not voting for him

chips, i went to the huffpo site and looked this up. the navy wouldn’t release his records under the freedom of information act in august, when this could have been less explosive news.

Why are they investigating this? What is the outcome they are seeking from this? McCain is in his 70’s and has by his own admissions, led a VERY complex life. The realization that he may have been in a car accident in 1964 that may have killed someone would be awful. But what impact are those that are digging this up expecting to come from it? Justice? For who? To have it affect his run for the White House? No…he and his campaign have done enough damage in that regard. Democrats should stay out of the mud slinging and let the Republicans continue to drudge up dirt and form it into talking points against the democrats and Obama all they want. That ship has sailed….God willing….November 4th Barack and Joe will be voted into the White House, knowing they ran a clean campaign. The Republicans however will have a lot of mea culpas to make.

Well said, Chips!! I’m voting for Barack Obama because I think he offers this country the sanest, most intelligent, most capable Presidency we will have seen in years. I believe that John McCain’s past certainly has influenced him, as all our past experiences have influenced us, but a 1964 car crash, despicable as it would be if it were covered up, would not affect my vote. Today Palin has been described by a McCain campaign adviser as a “whack job” - that’s from someone on her own team! I think that is relevant. However, I’m not just voting AGAINST McCain/Palin. I’m voting FOR Obama/Biden because I want significant change in Washington and I know Obama will deliver. OBAMA/BIDEN ‘08

I agree- enough with the digging and mud slinging- let’s just get on with voting next Tuesday. Some of us will be licking our wounds next Wednesday morning ( hopefully not Obama supporters) and then it’ll be time to seek a more positive direction for this country. This election seems to be the most stressful I’ve ever experienced and the anxiety does not need to be amplified further through more “investigative” info. on the candidates’ pasts. It’s time for the media( all forms) to stop adding fuel. I believe we are all on overload.

Leave it alone, it is old history, has nothing to do with today. It’s like the Kennedy Chapaquidick stuff. I am thinking to the future, not the past !

And why do they have to say anything about this story before they have something concrete to report? Shuddup, fer God sakes! Who cares anyway? Obama/Biden - November 4th!

Yeah, but that’s what journalism is all about. Good luck, Vanity Fair. Now that you’ve leaked this insinuation, you better get the facts to back it up.

ENOUGH ALREADY!!! You would think Americans would be fed up with this type of journalism. And to pull this stunt—even if true—so close to the election. Vanity Fair will do well to learn the lesson of the NYTimes when they took the low road against McCain and that so-called affair.

Dear WOW ladies; I’m so happy I found you. Have heard about your website but now that I’ve located you, I’m delighted. It reads great. One question.. how did a group of bright, literate, liberal thinking young women like yourselves get involved with reactionary Peggy Noonan? I know she’s a bright woman but so much on “the other side” that couldn’t you wait until after the election to hook up with her? Love your ‘stuff. Harriette Smith (I wish I were related to Liz)
