Bill Clinton: McCain Made Good Choice With Palin (Video)

By The Staff at wowOwow.com

Bill Clinton doesn’t want to waste his or America’s time by taking to the airwaves to slam and smear John McCain, Sarah Palin or any other political candidate, for that matter.

In an interview with CNN’s Larry King Wednesday night, Clinton said voters need to drill down on the issues, not the catfighting.

"We’re going to have to make this election about something real," Clinton told King, as he urged Americans to "think through here what is the right thing to do for themselves and their families and for our country" when they vote in November.

Clinton – who is supporting fellow Democrat Barack Obama for president and will begin campaigning for him next month – says he has the highest respect for John McCain (describing him as the "only Republican with a chance to win"), and even appreciates the way Palin has handled her tough family issues (meaning, her 17-year-old daughter’s pregnancy, and her newborn son’s Down syndrome).

Clinton said that many Americans, like those in Arkansas, who are both pro-choice and pro-life, "they like families that hang together, that deal with adversity, that are proud of all their members, and don’t run off from life’s vicissitudes."

"I think that she and her husband and their kids come across gutsy, spirited and real. I have significant disagreements with her about any number of social and economic issues but I find her an appealing person and I think that it’s best to say that Sen. McCain looks like he knew what he was doing. He picked somebody who gave him a lot of energy, a lot of support," Clinton said.

He also said Palin — who has "good political instincts" and is "gutsy" — has definitely energized both Democrats and Republicans.

"She also helps Sen. Obama," Clinton said. "When the Obama supporters — the Democrats — found out she lights a fire under the right and got McCain more money and more volunteers, then in turn there was a reaction and Sen. Obama started raising more money and getting more volunteers."

Palin often mentions Sen. Hillary Clinton on campaign stops – as a way to try to convince those who wanted to see Hillary in the White House to come to McCain’s side instead of Obama’s.

So what does Hillary think about that name dropping for McCain’s benefit?

"Once the smoke clears and you get beyond the emotional appeal of that, I would hope that her supporters, Hillary’s supporters, would think about what she said at the convention and what she says every day she’s out there campaigning for the Obama-Biden campaign," Bill Clinton said. "This is not about me and my feelings or you and your feelings; this is about who’s in it for the American people and their future."

The former president also denied that Hillary, who ceded the Democratic primary race to Obama after a knockout fight, has been a reluctant campaigner for her former opponent.

"She has done more than all other runner ups have in the Democratic Party in 40 years. We have been quite clear on this. We’re not party wreckers, and we believe that the country needs to take a different course."

A friend sent me this story today, and I thought I’d post it here. Sounds like Ann Richards to me. Palin is a Post Turtle The story goes like this: After suturing a cut on a 75 year old Texas rancher, whose hand had been caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the rancher. Eventually the topic got around to candidates - specifically Sarah Palin The old rancher said, “well, ya know, Sarah is a post turtle”. Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a ‘post turtle’ was. The old rancher said when you’re driving down a country road, and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that’s a post turtle. The old rancher noticed a puzzled look on the doctor’s face, so he continued to explain. “You know she didn’t get up there by herself, she doesn’t belong up there, and she doesn’t know what to do while she is up there, and you have to just wonder what kind of idiot put her up there in the first place.”

Ms. Dee, Thank you for sharing…this is great. And, our former president has stunned me, to say the least, in the last few months and it seems to be getting worse by the day. His bitterness is showing but now we must deal with his “inner man” again???

Dee, I think this clip of Gov. Palin trying to explain why she knows foreign policy because she lives next to Russia is a good example of your story. You can see it in her eyes that all she knows is what she’s been told to say by the handlers. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/25/palin-talks-russia-with-k_n_129…

I hope you know I meant the story sounded like soomething Ann Richards would say…not that she had anything in common with the turtle.

Ms Dee………….I received the same e-mail — instead of Sarah Palin — Senator Obama’s name was inserted. It’s making the rounds — just insert the name of anyone you choose.

Bill Clinton is clearly still bitter and bothered that Hillary did not win. I have seen every interview he has made this week that is supposed to have been in support of Sen. Obama, yet he is talking up McCain and Palin at every turn. Obama’s camp needs to tell him “thanks but no thanks” because truth be told, they don’t need his help.

Belinda, Hillary did not lose, WE did! And our thanks can go to Nancy Pelosi and Howard Dean…the fix was in. The DNC told us that “if we have ovaries, we don’t count!”

seriously folks, why not Obama? afterall he turned down a very lucrative career in both law and business to serve the community. you don’t have to go to war to serve.

Palin gets stumped when Katie Couric asks for a single example of how McCain has fought to reform financial oversight. Her silence speaks volumes.

Sorry Tee Zee but that is Baloney. That was another ‘gotcha’ question. After that stupid remark by Charles Gibson about the ‘Bush Doctrine’ one would hope that the media would ask some rather plain questions…..i.e. something about the social security crisis this country will soon face or maybe something about the downturn in Russian/USA relationships because of the new wealth being pumped into Russia because of their oil revenue? No, instead reporters are searching for a “perfect question” in order to either stump the interviewee or to add to their own resume of interviews. By the way, Sarah did talk about John McCain’s advocacy of the restructure of both Fannie Mae and Freddie ….a plan he put forth two years ago. Her silence was only heard by you and by other Obama supporters who are refusing to recognize that Sarah Palin is a mighty force in this election….especially among women voters. McCain/Palin 2008. Yes!

Gotcha question? So Ms. Palin only answers “plain” questions, who’s she’s been studying with Miss North Dakota? The real social security crisis is the money was stolen by the big and little ‘bush”. I’m happy that you’re enjoying the million dollar baloney. You unfortunate billionaires, Johnnie McFly restructured Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in 2006 and now we have to bail them out again i guess so Rick Davis can parcel out more? How much was your share? But what do I know I only own one house and one car, both paid for. Don’t bother to reply, many of us women can think for ourselves and at least 2/3 of the country doesn’t buy it so preach to the trillionaire choir.

Yeah and your guy apparently has brought back the former head of Fannie Mae into his campaign after firing him two weeks ago. There is plenty of blame for this economic meltdown both in New York and Washington.

yes it does doesn’t it kinda saying something is a miss and then McCain wanting to delay the debates makes me wonder too?

I can’t view the video here but I agree with Pres. Clinton’s take on the issue. I don’t see him as saying she’s qualified to be VP or President at all. But he is pointing out some truths about what her appointment meant.
